VaultX brand: "exact fit sleeves", "soft card sleeves", and "seamless rigid toploaders 35pt". You can also get "magnetic card holders 35pt" if you expect any hyper rare cards.

Exact fits can fit inside soft sleeves can fit inside top loader.

For the magnetic holder, you have to only put the exact fit sleeve on the card and then it goes in the mag holder.

They also have good binders but so expensive. I found that every card binder that won't damage your cards and had a zipper to keep spills out is just as expensive, though.

the way I feel about it is that they both are and aren't a scam. there are reasons to buy graded cards but there are reasons to not. graded cards is the easiest way to not get scammed online, graded cards are the easiest way to verify quality online, and graded cards probably look best for small collections or trophy display-esque items. at the same time if you're at a card show or a local card shop and you don't specifically have a reason to buy graded, why not buy raw? they can be protected just as much as a slabbed card if you know what you're doing and the price is usually always cheaper. Personally i'm buying graded for specific collections but intending to leave the bulk of my collection odds and ends raw, helps me to not waste money, but ensures that i'm not endlessly hunting for hyper-niche items just to find out the condition they're in is shit. After all, a lot of my chases right now are literally just random reverse holo trainers, 99% chance any raw card was just left unsleeved in bulk storage for a decade. if i learned anything from my childhood PC it is that, that is not good for them.

For example, my allisters are all in japanese because onion is a super cute name and allister is just whatever name.

for like half a year i've been searching for my black star charizard and other cards that I picked out as rare from my childhood PC ~2 years ago and I still can't find them. it gets really stressful sometimes imagining I misplaced thousands of dollars. I meant less from the 'purchasing slabs' side, and more in having cards graded.
From what I was told, the price you pay is dependent on the value of the card, which seems odd unless the company is willing to claim liability on any damage done in shipping. But they seem to have specific shipping instructions (from what little I know), and then you pay your price to get a 9, only to get an 8.5 and then pop it open and resend it until you get a 9.
There are people that will buy "on the fence" cards, as in .5 cards or whatever, pop em open and resend them in.
Apparently there's enough incentive in the price of the grade, that for expensive cards, it's worth it.
Again, people don't need to justify their purchases.

At the end of the day, these are overpriced pieces of card stock.
But it just feel like grading companies are making a disproportionately large sum of cash for giving out stickers with numbers on them and a protective case.

PSA charges different rates vs your projected value and upcharges if you go under, yeah, I am pretty miffed at that myself. Beckett and a few others don't do that at all though and service level is purely turnaround time, no upcharges. But of course at the moment PSA is the standard which means people are more likely to buy it. As for regrading, yeah, grading is currently not able to be so precise as to always get the same score since human beings are doing it and that opens the door wide. Personally I am hoping in the future we see AI be used to grade cards cutting out all human employees because there have been some pretty high profile mistakes made by them over the years. That being said at the end of the day unless you're literally dirt poor it is worth grading high value cards you have if you intend to resale and their condition is alright.

Even base Set, well maybe not under a dollar but if your hit was Lass that's like $5 near mint on tcgplayer.
So you could come under $10.
Just buy singles.
Even if you're collecting an entire set, and will putting bulk and commons in your master set, I think it might still be cheaper, unless you get super lucky and hit all the chases.

So I looked at all of the ScaVio sets, and there's only 33 cards I want.
Unfortunately... I think some of them are pretty pricy.

There's a neat full-art set of Ralts to Gardevoir that reminds me of Kanako Eo's Tepig line where the humans age as the pokemon evolves.
The ralts card alone is sold out on T&T but is around $15
But most of the cards are worthless stock cards that I just like the art of.

I've known about these for a while. When I was trying to collect all of Kanako Eo's cards, she did a set for a Japanese PokePark one year.
Also, the 'paired' pokemon you could just slot together. (Plusle+Minun, Volbeat+Illumise)
I think some of the Southern Island cards were like that? I'd have to check my WotC binders.

But yes, they certainly manipulate me into wanting to buy them all, if they're done by an artist I like. I've noticed that at least one full art evolution line lately has been assigned to a single artist, making you want to get the other two, if you get one.
But I'm onto those fuckers, they're not going to brainwash me into consooming more. (probably)
