Animation has been dogshit since they got to Kitakami. I don't think we've had animation this poor for so many episodes in a row since like... gen 4 or gen 5. I wonder what happened? Was something scrapped, or were they expecting a more substantial break after Liko vs Roy? It's crazy to see the show revert to speed lines and non-existant battle choreography. Not a show ruiner but any stretch but in terms of movement, expression, character acting, and battle animation, I don't remember a time where we had it this bad in years. Does anyone have any insight as to why the animation looks so bad now? I'm saying this a fan, I'm not trying to stir shit. Horizons has had pretty limited character acting since day one, XY, SM, and JN were all more playful with the character movements and Pokémon antics. HZ by comparison has a lot more still, talking scenes where the only movement is the mouths or the occasional gesticulation. Again, I'm all in on HZ, I love the idea of new characters and big changes, but I'm not sure why they aren't putting all their resources into making the animation splendid. I wish it had its own art style and not what is effectively a more grounded JN art style.

OLM's been expanding into other Asian markets in order to curb these issues, as well as focusing on younger animators to null the aging out of their staff, but they've also been doing this while taking on seasonal projects with pretty advanced art directions (Apothecary Diaries, Summertime Render). Pokemon's kind of getting the raw end of how they allocate resources, similar to how One Piece was being treated when Dragon Ball Super was airing. It is also mid-series, so they're really on the wheel now in that they can't have six months of lead time for prepping, writing, designing, etc. There'll probably be a few choice episodes/mini-arcs where they invest a lot of resources, but most of them aren't going to look outstanding unless they just manage to recruit some hypercompetent people to undergird the lower director-positions.

Things feel a bit less bouncy and playful now that all our small mons have grown up, and since Liko and Roy aren't the most expressive, animated characters on their own, the goofs we got from Croc and Puss (and Quaxly, who I adored most) are sorely missed. It's definitely not as easy to get silly with the mid-stage or final stage designs, which you're definitely right that the animators are grappling with. Thanks for the thoughtful reply bro

It's a product to keep attention on the Pokemon brand throughout the periods when there isn't a game or other major thing for Pokemon to sell. It's also Shogakukan's buy-in on Pokemon as a whole. They own the anime and the manga that they create for TPC, so without those they don't have a chunk of the franchise, and that's a huge loss for them. They're not invested in making a seasonal show that could get awards or anything, they're invested in a year-round show that fills a time slot, sells magazines and merch, and appeals to a broad audience. The leaks showed that yeah, they care about ratings, but not in the same way that retards who argue over which series is better do. TPC's been experimenting more with non-TV anime and the results are better. Concierge was a risk, but it's soulful and got good reception on Netflix. Twilight Wings, Paldean Winds and PokeToon are all fantastic. Try checking those out as well. The TV anime will always be "fine" but unimpressive.
QUALITY
By next Friday the animation will be back to normal and this making an elephant out of an fly thing will be forgotten until next gen where around the same timeframe it happens again. I swear every gen is always the same swansong (why the animation shits the bed in the middle of the runtime at times, why they won't go seasonal). Black Rayquaza and Terapagos would both be sitting in the research park by this point.

Narrowing it down under the assumption that aside from Friede who is the obligational Kanto Rep and focusing solely on the latest gens of Pokemon (Galar and Paldea) as available capture candidates minus the Pokemon who are not natively available in Paldea, that narrows it down to a sizeable amount of choices for Liko.But my personal picks stay Shroodle, Greavard or in the more convential manner, Litleo.

When Ash returns, he should bring his Incineroar since its draw parallel to Liko's Floragato. Not to mention Incineroar haven't gotten much focus outside of being a heater. This is my idea for Ash's Incineroar moveset -->Bulk Up>Trailblaze>Power Trip>Blast Burn.It would be better if Ash gets an ability patch to change Incineroar's ability to Intimidate. Along the way towards that paradise he joined hands with six Pokemon (dubbed the Six Heroes) who decided to accompany him to it. During the travel towards it, he encountered a Terapagos. At the end of Lucius's travels towards it (His fate unknown at the time), the Six Heroes got scattered around the world while Terapagos fell into a slumber. Liko and Roy the protagonists want to help Terapagos reach Rakua and while doing so, they search for the six heroes.It's a seperate story with the worldbuilding of Paldea being used with a brief stop in Galar for one of the six heroes as well as meeting one family member related to the main cast.
