Happy 25 years of Gold/Silver, bros. Johto thread? Fondest Gen 2 memories?First games I ever played, I remember restarting over my brother's copy of Gold over and over trying to get past the second rival fight with just my Quilava (did not work out for me). I didn't actually end up owning my own physical copy of a Gen 2 game until I was like 18, but I did end up playing through most of Gold on an emulator when I was 10 the year before HG/SS came out, the Lighthouse sticks out in my mind for some reason. And then of course a bunch of fond memories of HG/SS, enjoying the Pokeathlon, going out for walks on the Pokewalker grinding steps, being so happy to just walk around with my bros following behind me. But I still preferred GSC aesthetically and musically, probably the best the games have ever looked and sounded relative to what else is competing with them on a system.Playing through Crystal right now, will get Stadium 2 by the end of the year and see what I missed out on from the N64.

sugimori's art from that period is amazing
>>56952884Nice!I hunted Ho-Oh in HG but there's something so nice and clean about the GSC sprites, even with the limited palette it still obviously pops as "OH SHIT SHINY">>56952887I really wish the series' art direction was based on Gen 2-3 Sugimori, it's just pure kino
>>56952877BW2 was technically my first pokemon game I ever owned, but I've been playing Gen 2 for forever. I remember playing a very laggy pokemon 3d with my sister multiple times. Fetaligatr is my Pikachu. Never beat red with my own team. I had to use my big sister's team to beat him. I'm training my mons now so I can beat him by myself

>>56952906>I really wish the series' art direction was based on Gen 2-3 SugimoriAgreed. I get the love for the gen 1 stuff, it's what we grew up with and without it the latter wouldn't have come to be, but a lot of it is so wonky and stiff with weird proportions. Gen 2 took that style and refined it into something still distinctly Sugimori/pokemon but much more professional, and gen 3's switch to digital brought a nice consistency to it. Gen 4 was okay but you could see it starting to lose it's charm and go for corporate levels of uniformity and newer trends more and more throughout the ds era and by gen 6 the art style totally lost its identity.
>>56953575Gen VI is a culmination of what began in Gen IVWithout the Garchomp school of design Greninja probably doesn't exist as it does
