>>56975064>Favorite Pokemon EditionI've never collected cards before (except as a little kid like everyone) but I really love Ribombee so I wanted to collect all of its cards for the novelty of it. But looking up the cards, Ribombee seemingly doesnt have any like, really cute/pretty/cool cards? Every card art of it looks super generic and uninteresting. Not a single full art either. I will fully admit that I am just ignorant on which 'mons get full arts and so on but it was still disappointing. I'll probably not get any Ribombee cards because of this.

Rocket Sets are always so Kino
>>56975231>>56975107>>56975177To finish replying to the other thread, yeah as I said I just want to build a nice binder for gen1 pokemon at the moment, and the rares can either be wotc vintage or modern sets, I don't care, I just want visually nice cards. The language is even less of a concern, my base collection is all in Italian with a couple of french outliers like the one in pic, and I can find some nice deals on the Italian ebay sometimes. So English cards are not a priority, and if Japanese is cheaper even better, it's fitting for a Japanese franchise.
>>56975451If it's any consolation, Cutiefly has an illustrator card and some interesting card art.
Good evening, it's raining outside and my Fates ETB arrived in the mail. Popped my pack ripping virginity. Nothing crazy, but very comfy

i have the secret rare ex dragon charmander and charmeleon in my childhood collection.should i pay €250 just to complete the three?
>>56975834That's quite a bit of money, but it's always nice to complete evo lines you like
>>56975877it's my favorite charmander too but it hurts to pay the 'zard tax
>>56975615Just praying that they don't fuck up the aesthetic in the new rocket set. They managed to fuck up the ex aesthetic in SV so I'm not holding my breath
>>56976045I fucking swear, if they bring the gay crystal hats to the Rocket set...
>>56976045ex would have been perfect without the glitter, they were so close to not fucking up

>>56975664They probably watch dubs too
>>56975615>>56976045The aesthetic you talking about is not related to rocket. Ex cards just looked like that in the ex era. Almost all of them had a menacing vibe to them. I expect the rocket/dark pokemon this time around to have a black background and that's it
>>56976238Anon, stop, you're going to make me vomit.
>>56976256I know. I was talking about exs and rocket mons separately
is grading a scam? how can they justify brand new cards handled with satin gloves into sleeves and top loaders getting a 9 instead of a 10? i guess it makes sense to arbitrarily keep the population lower in the age of pokemon investors but still, ridiculous what these companies get away with.
>>56976288Why do you expect cards to be in perfect condition in the factory?
>still seething over Japanese
>>56976288I blame all the illegal spics they hire. they are in Southern California. who else would they hire in mass to grade cards? All the more reason when they deport them we might get better graders in the facility again.
>>56976288>how can they justify brand new cards handled with satin gloves into sleeves and top loaders getting a 9 instead of a 10?Assuming a good faith inspection, it could be because of print quality, slight damage or most likely centeringBut the truth is they just don't care and they just want people to buy their services en masse (and PSA managed to really convince people it is essential), and I wouldn't be suprised if they graded some high end cards with 9s to tempt people to resubmit them to try getting a 10
>still buying sealed
>>56976288There's nothing wrong with a card that isn't perfectly centered. If a card is undamaged (factory or afterward) then it shouldn't have price variation just because the centering is off by 0.3 mm. It's ridiculous.

You don't understand guys, I NEED a grade 10 1st edition base set Charizard.
>>56976722if you believe that then don't be concerned with people who disagree. personally my brain is too ocd to accept off centering. If yours isn't thats great.
don't know why this one in particular imprinted on to my brind so hard but it did. also by the way the minun and plusle IRs are kind of mid, why the fuck are they with people watching sportsball? It could've been like a pokemon battle they're cheering on and it'd have been 10x better.
>>56976766>brinddid i just combine brain and mind into one word.
I see the pastebin was last updated in 2021. Is it still relevant? Since everyone is shilling the cheaper japanese cards, where do I buy them? Do they ship worldwide? Do I need to go through 100 loops of intermediary websites like the /a/ buyfag thread?

Why didn't they do more references to delta species? I also noticed that there were only like 2 tera ex per English set until stellar was introduced and became the only tera ex's, did they just dislike the gimmick? How hard do you think it would be to make a collection of all the Imakuni? cards? Imakuni?'s Exploud seems like the most expensive one.
i like modern reverses and ex era reverses for different reasons
>>56978202Gotta love the stamped reverse holos, those are so cool. Also a fan of the DPP era reverse holos where the entire rest of the card is holo.
>>56978420This seems to be one of the more expensive Imakuni? cards. I don't want slabs, but I want a binder page or two of nothing but Imakuni?. Any anons here have any of these cards?
>>56978433Just picrel. Really want to get Imakuni's Nasty Plot though.
>>56978052Glad I don't care about Eeveelutions. The most expensive card I'm interested in really is an old ass Scizor card from those sets where everything is super inflated because no one bought any of those packs back in the day.
Can someone post FA Mina, but the Japanese version?I feel like the foiling on her card was like brush strokes, but I can't seem to find an image online that illustrates that, and now I'm wondering if It was a Japanese card that I'm thinking off, and I didn't remember.

Thanks to PSA I can find a lot of cheap cards in great condition, either PSA rejects or just cards fresh from the package that the seller didn't bother grading.Without PSA there would be the opposite effect as any neckbeard would sell their scratched, sat over, coffee spilled, dog bitten Charizard at the same inflated price.
>>56979918I have to think it's the other way around: PSA adds perceived value by engendering consumer trust in their grading. No one would buy a "scratched, sat over, coffee spilled, dog bitten Charizard" at the same price, come on. They wouldn't even buy a Charizard that was otherwise in perfect condition without PSA either, because they wouldn't trust that it's actually "that good." Certainly for more than the shit one, but it's the perception that PSA has fully vetted a card and thus you can have complete trust in its quality that makes people buy cards for stupid prices. When they're not defrauding people by pretending others are buying it at those prices, anyway.PSA is not just seen as the mark of "quality," people understand that other people will see it as adding value too. So investors/fools who are buying cards believing they'll continue to go up in value see PSA and know that a PSA graded card will be seen by others as being properly vetted and of assured quality too, allowing them to resell it themselves for even more inflated prices. As long as that collective belief holds.
PSA graded my clearly 10 cards as 9's and graded a 7 card as a 10.they are almost to the 100 million serial number mark. i cannot deny human error. but sometimes it feels intentionaland those graders are fucking faggots.
I still have my early pokemon cards from the 90s I think the fossil set? Are these worth anything if not graded?
The top card got a PSA 10. The bottom card got a PSA 9.one came from the factory, the other got damaged during shipping. i sent in the damaged one because yolo. the bottom one is a 7k card in a 10. fucking faggots jewed me so hard. im not paying for a regrade. they shit out worse 10's than that all fucking day.
>>56980004Yes, don't listen to the fags saying everything vintage needs to be graded before people will buy it. Just accurately document their condition and if it's decent to great you'll do fine if you're ever to sell them.
>still buying modern
>>56979746From E4>Topsun 3D Series 7 Generation III: The set can be distinguished visually from the Series 6 set via obvious differences in card design: silver-gray borders; different graphic design for card #, pokemon name, etc.; and a picture modified for 3D viewing via 3D glasses.
>When Gamestop sends you the wrong PSA card and you can't get a refund because the real PSA card got sent to a different person
>>56980004Yes, 1st edition holo base/fossil/jungle/rocket are highly wanted, and even not 1st ed are valuable and overpriced because muh vintage, although very few of them are graded

>>56980685Man I miss sets having lore of their own between all the artworks, this is the same set with the Ditto imitating a cave painting right? That's one of my favourite cards ever. >>56980690yeah, it's a great set
>>56980681unfortunately pretty common. feel like just about every schoolkid who traded cards falls for these at some point. In the future if you wanna look up the card, you can often just google the card number to find it, IE that pika has 44/185, which corresponds to the pikachu vmax from vivid voltage. The real thing looks completely different though.

>>56980904This scan does these quite dirty in my opinion, in person those Paldean Fates gold cards are really nice, maybe too minimalist if anything. The texturing is really nice. I didn't get any SIRs from that set but I like my Koraidon gold card.
>>56979697It's not the worst but it's not good. From what I know it should get an 8 as 8 usually means good perfect condition but not perfectly made. If 9 means perfectly centered I dont know how anything gets 10 even the one ring got a 9 with no other copies of the card to compare it to... It seems like it's just a mood check on the person who's grading the card I guess.

>>56982618Based fellow elephant tin enjoyerI pulled the Charizard Ex from mine
>>56981406I've never been a fan of MTG doing other IPs. If it was for their joke sets, fine. But it dirties the mythos they've spent like 30 years creating. Even D&D, which would make sense on paper, felt really weird when they did it. Also, card quality has plummeted in the last 7-10 years, and I don't know why. Probably the best of big three to play, and the worst of the big three to collect.

And make it yellow again. The contrast is what frames the card. It's like they're artistically retarded with graphic design all of a sudden.

>>56982950>make it yellow againI agree, but it will never happen. Yellow border is literally soul.

>>56983422No, I'm not one to defend it, but as opposed to the 1:1 head to body chibis of the BDSP, the 1:1.5 chibis are a really nice transition from 2D. The only thing SM/SWSH/SV has convinced me of is that, even with more time and more money, GameFreak just cannot do proper proportioned 3D. I don't know why, but they can't do it. Which means, either XY/ORAS style or back to sprites. And because they're never going back to sprites, XY art it is then. Ugly on the 3DS? Maybe. But it'll be on the Switch this time.
Now that Japan his unified the card designs across the world for the faces, do you think they're going to change the backs to be like the Japanese cards? Why make all of the changes at all, if they're not building up to this?
>>56983513The back feels too iconic to change, for Americans anyway. The fronts changed all the goddamn time, so unifying that cost nothing, in terms of public perception. But I don't see a reason to change the backs, which have been the same in the US since the very first WoTC cards.
>>56983158kek @retards in the comments thinking this will be the next 151nobody gives a fuck about the unova dex
>>56983695yeah, I felt the same way about the yellow borders, but now here we are. I really do feel that, design wise, the yellow borders don't blend into the interior of the cards (even electric types), whereas the silver, especially on foil FA cards, doesn't create a solid boundary anymore and more easily blends into a lot of designs. Yellow framed the card better. But American cards have had the yellow borders for just as long as the backs, and they changed the borders. There was no good reason for them to, and they did. All that's left is the backs.

>>56983726Born in 92, I remember more of Gold/Silver than Red and Blue. And Kanto designs have gotten really plain compared to subsequent gens. I don't mean this as a complaint, I'm just saying they are objectively simpler with less colors and less shit stuck on them. I'd probably say I like about as many Gen 5 as Gen 1 mons. Like a don't give a shit about rattata, nor patrat. They both suck. Zubat and Woobat can both eat shit. Crobat is still the best, unless we count Noivern as more bat than Wyvern. But Trubbish is a better design then Grimer, to me. Arcanine will never be topped by any other region's doggo.I'd rather have Serperior than Venusaur. But would take Charmander over Tepig, but Dewott over Wartortle. (And Blastoise over Samurott) It will be a fun set. I'll collect like I always do, just the cards I like. (I don't collect entire expansions).

>>56983981i'm a spritefag. but i believe 3D hit its strive in SM. XY/ORAS just look like complete dogshit
>>56983991fair enough. Either way, if GF develops it, you know we're getting SV assets, right? When it's finally Gen 5's turn for the shitty remake, Gen 5 will make BDSP look like masterpieces. >>56986065I have a good copy. i just checked the pricing and they do hold value. id get it graded but PSA would see the one chip in the corner and give me a PSA 8. despite its perfect centering and no scratches.
you see thats how they get ya. they tell you not to hold on to your reverse holo's. nobody ends up holding on to them. and boom. only 37 copies are currently graded under PSA and so its a rare and valuable card in good condition.sleep on reverse holo's all you want. ill hold them.
>>56986101I throw reverse holos away. They're sometimes pre-warped in the booster pack when I pull them out, they're such shit. It's weird, because FA foils don't give me any problem, but aren't they basically the same?Bam. Right in the trash, with few exceptions.

>>56986471Why do people do this? To hoard and resell in the future? Is this profitable?
>>56982840is this why everyone has been posting houndoom prime lately?
>>56986806It's at best as "profitable" as flipping burgers at mcdonalds, but it doesn't require any effort so you'll find a lot of subhumans doing it.
>>56982618twitter faggot
>>56986806Pretty much, ES mania basically boils down to>less than a handful of cards that fetch a high price>retarded amount of cards in the set>retarded pull rate for even regular rare cards>a certain small minority of people seemingly dedicated to keeping the 1 umbreon card high priced on the marketSo by extension you have scalpers trying to horde unsealed anything ES.Same with 151 but unlike ES the pokemon company are more than happy to print off more 151 as fast as possible. As a side investment card product isn't bad but to many are in it solely to make a buck and they're more than overjoyed buying up product just to make sure no one else can.
>>56986806There are two types of subhumans, the hoarders will just hoard sealed and never actually resell it because they're waiting for it to "moon" (but they keep waiting for it to rise higher even if it does moon), the flippers are usually LGS owners or online store owners that scalp product to resell it at inflated prices. An Evolving Skies booster box is as expensive as a Moonbreon btw. Just buy singles.

>>56987473TPCi printed WAY more Evolving Skies than 151. It was readily available for years whereas 151 booster bundles were notoriously hard to even find at release. ES released nearly four years ago and still occasionally finds its way to shelves. It was one of the few sets in history to feature at least a third printing run. People were insisting the market for it would crash because of the sheer volume they were printing.

*sigh*warping is caused by temperature and humidity, it is not a problem nor a permanent thing. It's like in a bimetallic strip if you know those. When a material composed of layers of different materials is exposed to a changing humidity or temp, each layer expands or contracts at a different rate, and this causes the overall material to curve. This can be reversed simply by changing the temp or humidity again (cool, dry place), or as anon said >>56988448 just press em in a toploader or between a bunch of energies
>>56988481can this be added to the faq?
>>56988362>>56988133Yeah, I got back into collecting in Dec 2022 and ended up spending like 3000 dollars within a month, buying various vintage + literally picking up whatever I could find at the shop whenever I went to get groceries. You're here forever anon, I can go months without buying but then I get the itch and at least a grand disappears.
>>56988139The SM ones at least had a nice glow, but yeah they were lazy cards and started a horrible trend in the TCG. They need to get rid of gold cards next, they literally serve no purpose.

>>56988511care to explain? or are you retarded?
>>56988537I tested it and it didn't work. Cards are still warped.
>>56988556you absolute moron. they warp when the temp and humidity rise and fall over weeks at a time. you throwing it in a toploader for an hour wont do shit. it takes a while to warp it, it takes a while to warp it back straight. these people have zero patience. 99% of collecting is just waiting. newfags ruined this hobby so badly with their crave for instant success.
>>56988575I did it for 3 years. Still warped.
>>56988598cheekiness will get you nowhere.
you're supposed to use a card saver to fix warping not a top loader
>>56987779probably $20, $25.
>>56988575untrue. You use the ABC method.Aqua (Water) Bend Correction. It's 2024, and people still don't understand how to fix warping (and even small creases)You take your card, dip it into a bin or bowl of water so that it's completely covered, and then pull it out. You do this with the card completely vertical, so it needs to be a couple inches deep. Then, you place it on a paper towel with the bend facing up, and place a stack of weights on a book that covers the whole card. This can be more books, or whatever, but should be at LEAST 20 lbs. Then you wait 24 hours. And in the morning, bam. You've ruined your card.Repeat for all reverse holos until you've purged your collection of them.
>>56988733I don't have water, can I use isopropyl alcohol instead?
>>56988733I prefer the flame from below methodHold a lighter about 3 inches under the card, when it sets alight into ash, it is no longer warped
>>56988733>he doesn't reverse pickpockets his reverse holos in random strangers' ass crack
>>56988780It evaporates too quickly. I'd say at least 80 proof whiskey or higher. A real nice scotch. Once you've thoroughly soaked the card, the liquid spilled is now worth more than the card, so whatever outcome you get will be depressing enough to drink over.Which, you know. Is what the whiskey is really for.
>>56988733look kurt im not investing in your products. buy an ad.
>>56988630get it? cuz it saves cards :D
>>56988733Another method is dipping the card in baby oil. A famous celebrity did this all the time and they found tons of baby oil bottles in his mansion.
there are people buying used damaged cards and repairing them in the pursuit of selling restored pokemon cards. what a joke. get a real job.
