Portfolio bros, help me out with something. I just got a new folio and plan on returning it, because the slots for the cards are WAY too close to the stitching. less than a centimeter.
And my issue is that, once you start stuffing the pages with cardboard, you get a compounding effect of the thickness of the book causing card slots closest to the binding, but furthest from the centerfold stitching to bend upward, or arch, with the weight of the page pulling downward from the other slots. The only thing preventing your card from being damaged is its own rigidity (paired with the card on the opposite side.
I've noticed this is only an issue with hard-backed "premium" variant folios. For whatever reason, the flexible thin covered folios don't do this.

Is there a brand that wont have this arching or bending between slots? Or in other words, it has at least an inch of fabric between the cards and the binding to allow the pages to lay flat?

I ordered a folio because my D-Ring binder is leaving dents on some of my cards, despite how careful I turn the pages. I don't know what I do wrong.
My next question would be binders with a D-Ring manufactured by card companies and paired with pages with the same type of black fabric with plastic pockets on them that you find in folios.
Do these pages somehow prevent dents/damage, despite still being a ring-binder?

I just recently got back into collecting and got binders for all my cards to get them out of the tin i've had them in for decades so I did an autistic amount of research on it so blog incoming:

As far as I can tell every stitched binder will "tent" its centre columns as it gets filled up and the further pages from the centre spine goes.. Some people say this ends up bending their cards, but most people seem to not have an issue with it. As far as I can tell, this is normal if not intentional as the tenting only happens when the binder is open, so personally I can't see that being an issue unless you keep the binder open and flat 24/7 and you just rawdog your cards in there.
Pic related, of my three this one isn't completely full but its the most full I have. Cards are single sleeved in knockoff dragonshields, you can see in [1] the tenting on the second page out of 20 and [2] has the centre seam page laying as flat as it can naturally, and there's still slight tenting on the left side since there's more cards there. Granted these are 3x4s but I think most 3x3s behave similarly.

Nearly every binder out there seems to be on the same or very similar dimensions so I think regardless of what you pick you'll end up with varying degrees of this issue as your binders fill up. I've seen some madlads skirt it by getting 3x4 binders and treating them like 3x3s by not filling the centremost columns entirely. it's also a bit fucked that some companies make XL binders by just sewing in more pages without adjusting the spine to account for the added bulk so you still end up with like 4~5 unusable pages if you're collecting a lot of cards and you want the thing to close.

I ended up going with Card Guardian since they're the only ones I saw ANYONE mention hold up to being completely filled with sleeved cards and they ended up being slightly cheaper than vaultx for me but I feel like anything that isnt obviously temu garbage is probably alright.

if i'm collecting surging sparks, if i get one of those pokeball holos, can i just get rid of the non pokeball common ones?

I've noticed less of that tenting on the plastic covered ones, that usually come with an elastic strap to keep them closed. (I usually don't use the strap, and will often cut it off)
I'll try getting maybe a 2.5 or 3 inch D-Ring with the fabric insert pages >>57130713 I'm hoping that added fabric makes it harder for cards to get dinged or dented when compared to the cheap ultra-pro sleeves.
Also, as anyone with a folio knows, reorganizing is a bitch when you have to shift everything over, while binders allow you to just open the clasp and insert a new page.

If this doesn't work, I'll just put everything in penny sleeves and then into card boxes, and forget about binders/portfolios or trying to display cards.

A big D ring probably sounds the most useful if you're mostly gonna keep em in a box or flat on a shelf I feel. the bigger zippered binders are pretty unwieldy so a D ring probably isn't much different as long as you're not turning pages like a gorilla. Maybe a 2x2 zip binder for your absolute faves and the D ring/boxes for the rest.

The economics work fine and it's not particularly surprising a seller did this so much as it's not the norm because most tcg sellers don't have the liquidity, cash flows, or inventory space to make the economies of scale work this way. They also don't have supplier connections like this guy does. He likely had the ability to order 1k+ cases (10 boxes each) at 35ish per box and then sold them at the 42.00 price point by paying 5ish in shipping costs for a tiny % increase, but when scaled to 10,000 boxes of product, the margins add up extremely fast.

If he made 1 buck on every box, that's a 10k profit minus whatever tiny operation costs he has (cost of warehouse or garage/living expenses).

Keep in mind it probably took him years to get to this point. It's cutthroat competitive selling pokemon of any type, and some sellers operate on margins worth literally a few cents at most. It's not easy money by any means, and finding established suppliers is extremely difficult, and those secrets are safeguarded closely. For this guy, a 1% increase to his costs might theoretically put him below a major competitor.

Rosa just has bad color placement. Her mustard yellow skirt isn't picked up anywhere else in her design. White, Pink, mustard yellow, and light blue just arnt very appealing for an mc imo. What do you guys use to keep track of your collections/wishlists? I've got a pokellector tab open and I've tried putting together spreadhseets or checklists to keep track of which cards I have and need but I don't know shit about computer programs and none of them can do quite what I want them to do.

Pretty much I just need something I can put pictures in alongside release info, and if possible to make a checkbox for them. I've gotten close with google sheets but google anything sucks turbo dong these days and Pokellector is almost there but its a little too specific for how i'd be using it if that makes sense. I wanna start collecting my fave mons in earnest and I'm overdue for some bookkeeping anyway.

In my opinion, her design is just boring and way too androgynous. The only stand out part is the two tone hair honestly and it just looks kind of dumb the way they did it, unlike Iono's. S&V's trainer designs in general are just a massive let down, especially after how good Sword/Shield's were.
