A thread for the creation and discussion of fan fiction and other fanworks - anything that involves a story and/or reading. What've you been reading? What've you been writing? What would you like to see more of?>Thread question:What do you find yourself researching about when writing?>Previous thread:>>58558361
>>58590337How has aura been used in fanfictions?>powering up pokemon>telepathic communication
>>58590337>What do you find yourself researching about when writing?Prose and dialogues, how to find a way to write in a way that feels familiar for the character. As an example Rowen needs to sound like a highly educated and blunt man without steering into assholery, while Oak as far as I remember anyways could be a bit of everything, from a petty troll to Ash, excited as a kid when dealing with Pokémon to a doting grandfather to Gary/Blue/Daisy
>>58590337>What do you find yourself researching about when writing?Usually nature things, whether it's trees, fruits or very specific mountaineering things. Most of the details don't make it in the final draft, but it helps set the vibe in my mind.
>>58590337>What do you find yourself researching about when writing?Geology and different types of rock.
>>58590337How would (You) abuse Mega Malamar's powers before the authorities realize what a threat it poses for the general public?
>>58590786I would tell him to make me a sandwich
>>58590537IMOanon?
>>58590786Hypnotize myself to be smarter
>>58590827Ye. Started reading that manga about gorgeous ladies who like rocks as a side effect. It's breddy gud
>>58590417Most people who use it use it as the answer for everything, but a few people use it as a cheap excuse to give their MC telepathy and mild super powers.Type energy? Aura. Berries being magical? Aura. Bags of holding? Aura.I call it cheap excuse because they always unlock aura rather easily and yet for no explained reason everybody else isn't wielding aura despite its ease of entry.
>>58591130>Bags of holding? AuraHuh? That's technology tho, they have flying cars, teleporters, dimensional travel, and more ridiculous things to get obssessed with the bags
>>58591130I had a laugh when playing PLA and the way you increased your bag size was just taking lessons on not stuffing your items in it haphazardly.
>>58591163>flying cars, teleporters, dimensional travel, and more ridiculous thingsAll aura btw
>>58591163Aura, got it
>>58590417Unga bunga punch harder like in that genderbend Dawn SI
>>58590431Me too. In other media it's a total headache to do, but since the characters in Pokémon games are very simple, almost stereotypical, it's easier.
>>58590417Crazy how that's only a fraction of what it does in canon since apparently according to the wiki, Aura also lets you>Interact with the dead and allow them to interact with the physical world>Observation Haki>Zenkai boosts in Smash>Clairvoyance>Prevent mind control
>>58592445Most of this is true in the anime and Smash iirc, I think Riley did some barrier shit too
>write around 300-400 words>put it in grok for review>make minor changes to some of the more awkward writingthis is actually pretty based. it's always those little awkward parts that take me out of it and having a second person to advice is wonderful. No need to get caught up on the little things
>>58591130Everyone has the potential to run a marathon and yet you'd find that most people won't train their bodies to do so.
>>58593283Yet there are many marathon runners on earth.
>>58593333running marathons is like being a pokemon trainerbeing an aura user is like actually doing well
>>58593409Yet there are aura users who are shitty trainers.idk this metaphor you're going for falls apart when you consider that only a few people with special bloodlines or isekai blessings get aura. We have a good number of olympic athletes in our world, which are the supposed aura wielders, yet in the pokeworld not even champions get aura.Like, a cheat skill's trying to be justified here but it's still a cheat skill.
>>58593437>not even champions get aura. They get Arceus' blessing which is better, also the new anime kid can use aura too or something
>>58593437>Yet there are aura users who are shitty trainers.what sort of midwit response is this?>idk this metaphor you're going for falls apart when you consider that only a few people with special bloodlines or isekai blessings get aurawhat the fuckanon, cool your autism down. You're not as smart as you think.
>>58593456im sorry that your metaphor broke down anon. you'll get em next time
>>58590337Usually shit like movesets, canon team rosters, and plot events for the games I haven't played. I also like adding obscure references that only the most autistic fan would ever notice. For example, every single wild pokemon fought in Crystal Light corresponds to a Final Fantasy monster found in that area. Impidimps are the first ones fought as a reference to Goblins in the original FF1 being mistranslated to Imps.
>>58590786Impregnate every woman in Lumiose city, then wipe their memories of the event. Revel in the chaos as when their bellies start to grow bigger and society is collectively traumatized by mass immaculate births.
How many innocents were killed the day Quasartico quarantined off Area 17? Lion harems...are strong...
>>58593649>some women do paternity test>your dna comes outwhat do?
>>58594322Inject myself with mewtwo genes and have a Ditto give me a DNA-enema.
>>58594321Welcome to area 17!You have chosen or been chosen to relocate elsewhere. I thought so much of area 17 that i elected to enstablish a few Pyroar families here, in the park so thoughfully provided by the administration. I have been proud to call area 17 their home now. And so, whether you are here to move or passing through on your way to capture pokemon, welcome to area 17. It's safer elsewhere.
>>58593649What would actually happen is that after enough unexplainable pregnancies get reported, the League dispatches their psychics and what do you know, every single victim shows signs of brain scrambling. So now they send their specialists, their psychic Elites or Gym Leaders if they have them, and they very easily track you down (you have literally left a part of yourself at the scene of every crime) using psychometry, and proceed to arrest you. They broadcast your story widely to drum up support for a swift malamarite ban and they throw you under the prison where you live put the rest of your life being Distortion World waterboarded by guards and raped by inmates.

any romcom fics about Pokemon like Gardevoir?
>>58594924Love Lost (lol)I will maintain that those Blaziken injuns/abbos had it coming
>>58594816Huh, just like nips war crimes. >If I don't remember then it didn't happen
>>58594322DNA tests aren't magic 'here is the father' machines. They compare the baby's dna to the potential father's dna. They would have no reason to test me.>>58594424This actually had me come up with a lot of contingencies until this anon reminded me >>58594816 lol Kalos. They are not competent enough to have a team of psychics. And even if I do get caught big deal, they aren't gonna unimpregnate those girls. Their champion, strongest psychic, best detective, and biggest CEO are all carrying my child.
If you write outlines for your fics, what's the most wildly you've deviated from it? Just wrote Kyogre into a chapter when it literally had no other role in my initial plans so I was thinking about the topic.
>>58595214Anon you'd be dead from exhaustion by the 40th girl going at the rate you'd need to impregnate the entire city in a day, and even then refractory period is a thing so you wouldn't be able to cum fast enough to impregnate every girl before the first ones start to give birth
>>58595218Gonna assume deviating from the outline is on a per chapter basis, not “three chapters from now I’m gonna go off my initial outline.” Prolly the biggest one in PoPT is Plumeria basically forcing Ian to admit where he’s actually from. No one was supposed to know until arc 5, but Plumeria herself forced that shit 3 arcs early.
>>58595218For me it's probably Lonnie and the other L's, they were NOT supposed to be actual characters, just mooks to get everyone in one place with Emma. But they were way too charming to make a one-and-done.
>>58595214>>58594424This is why you brainwash THEM into fucking (You). You implant false memories and feelings about you inside their mind. You make them believe that, upon seeing you, they felt so attracted to you they simply had to push you down and rape you. Then when they're done, you flood them with guilt and an overwhelming desire to carry your baby. Now they can't go to the police, and they'll be just as invested in keeping things secret as you are.
>>58595257>he doesn't concentrate fairy aura into his balls to harness the fae's inherent fertility and rape prowess
>>58595257>exhaustionAura bro, that and being a quick shot
>>58594924Gardevoir is basically an alien elf. But for comedic purposes, which would be the weirdest Pokémon to get caught with in-universe?
>>58595416Ditto.

>>58596280I was like 'thats stupid' until it was kinda sweet.
Do you guys know of any fics where the MC gets trained/mentored/befriended/etc by a Champion? Where the Champion is a very important character of the series borderline co-protagonist?While skimming looking for something to read I stumbled upon something where Diantha funds the MC's nature preserve project and half of their dialogue was Diantha trolling the MC and it was pretty sweet. Saw another one where Red as all craaaaaaaling in my skiiiiiin and some random blonde lady totally not Cynthia had a nice chat with him where Red realized how much of an edgelord he was being and started to super cringe at himself while Cynthia also kept trolling him afterwards when they were training and chatting more. Please just no Ashfics. I saw so so SO many Ash "Chosen One Support Chat" chatfics where all the Champions are on a group chat with Ash I felt like puking.
>>58596560>Do you guys know of any fics where the MC gets trained/mentored/befriended/etc by a Champion?*monkey paw curls*Picrel is currently carrying the MCs of PokeNormal
>>58595473>Two of Dotrio's heads, but not the third oneSo, like that K-On Seiyuu, but with Pokemon?
>>58596560Personally i search "original male character" on ao3. If it has original characters it usually doesn't have ash in it.However i personally can't think of any fic like the one you're searching, the closest i can think of are a couple of abandoned smogon fics.
>>58596560There's https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13446637/1/Alola-GalarBut the SM champion is the protag and mentors Gloria. Dead fic unfortunately.
>>58596560>Champion, not E4Sad Grimsley noises.
>>58596560>deuteragonist champion mentor This is a neat idea, is it really that uncommon? You’d think it’d be more common given how often the champs help the MCs out in the games.
>>58598074And it perfectly explains an MC being powerful that doesn’t involve meta knowledge and shit.
>>58598137I guess it might be difficult to come up with a valid reason for why a champion might be interested in some nothing trainer. Any ideas?
>>58598472Yeah, this.Champion-sama taking interest on self-insert-kun may or may not be isekai-jin when they're a literally who newfag is way too shameless and on the nose. And while there's arguably nothing wrong with that, even the most shameless of people would at least try to come up with a semi-believable reason to justify it.But then if you go and make the Champion take interest when MC is already a experienced trainer and they see the "potential" or take interest on them because of their exploits it kind of defeats the point of Champion as a mentor. But well, here's something I came up with in five seconds: Champion-sama is invited to a trainer school tournament to supervise, (you) end up placing last, someone makes a snide comment that Champion-sama can relate to one way or the other, Champion-sama decided to take (you) as their pet project to prove that even a total shitter like (you) can become a Champion. Hijinks ensue with Champion-sama becoming the parental figure and the E4 the weird uncles/aunts.
>>58598472An internship
>>58598472A good question. Obviously familial/friend ties come to mind (the Champion being friends with a parent/sibling come to mind). But world building can help tremendously. In PoPT, Grimsley becomes Ian’s teacher because the Driftwood Guild recognizes Ian’s been recognized by Tapu Bulu and want to make sure someone bearing that blessing is worthy and able to defend themselves. Grimsley having a massive, unpaid marker with a casino ends up being okay as Driftwood paid it on the condition Grimsley trains Ian for a certain amount of time. Maybe there’s more happening but that would be spoilers.
>>58598472I had this plot bunny where MC trips and accidentally saves the champion from getting shot by an Inteleon during open-air event, champion then becomes interested in MC thinking it was intentional
>>58598472Have the Champion appear as an assist when the player is taking on criminals, Lance style, with them taking an interest in their growth from then on.
Bump I guess, google docs is a good way to save some drafts but a bit simple, what do you guys use?
>>58600309Notepad or notepad++ if i feel fancy
>>58600309Whatever the basic program is that comes on windows. But most recently I just write directly into ao3's 'new chapter' page and directly upload the wip as I work on it.
>>58600535>directly into ao3's 'new chapterI tried that in FFN but felt like a mess so I dropped it
>>58600553I started mostly because ao3 was accessible on my secure work computer but google docs was not. Honestly its nice because the small progress feels a lot more tangible, but its at the cost of feeling less of a need to refine it.
>>58600309I've just been using Libre since I was already used to working with Word.
>>58600442^Save as text file so i can work on my stuff on both phone and pc.
What are some Pokemon human characters that never appear in fics? Like Eusine
>>58601335For starters, the entire Sinnoh BF, Phoebe, Glacia and that other green haired dude from Hoenn's E4, Cynthia's sister, Daisy Oak, Bill can probably be counted with one hand too.Oh and that ugly midget from PokéSpe, Emerald.
Does your MC have the card?
>>58601865What card is that? Their V-Card? The N-word Pass? A maxed-out Trainer Card?
Do you respect canon sizes in your fics?
>>58601952No, fuck ‘em.
>>58601952lel no, I made a Water-type in my latest chapter at absolute minimum three times its canon size because I needed to fit more stuff on its back.
>>58601952Yes, as well as the canon move pools, the canon 4 move limit, and the canon power levels(Arceus isn't naturally level 100 btw so it's weaker than a champion's team).
>>58601952Yeah, on model means on model
>>58601952Lmao no, I don't even respect the canon story given how underwhelming it is
>>58601952Fuck no
>>58601952No. I choose to ignore stuff that makes the world lame.
>Order my Clefable to use Minimize three times in a row>it gets so small it disappearsfuuuck
>>58601878The shitpost card.
What's the most literally who named character you wanted to use or have used? And I don't mean as a just one-off appearance or cameo but as a regular character.
>>5860133590% of all the filler anime characters. I can't even recall a fic that uses Alain.
>>58602885AO3 has a lot of Yaoi with Alain , Sycamore and Lyssandre tho
>>58602885Nostalgiaturds are physiologically incapable of using anyone but the same fucking 5 niggas from the OG anime.
>>58602882Well, it WAS Emma, but that's probably less rare now.
>>58602890Fair, I instantly filter out m/m on Ao3
>>58602882>Have usedIf fetish fics count? Dahlia.
>>58602882For PoPT, I can’t wait to make Ryuki a legitimate antagonist.
>>58601952I don't even respect my head canon size for them. They are as big or as small as the scene demands.
>>58602882I've already shilled Trace as a reoccurring character in my fics. Honestly thinking about it I kind of want to use Vessa from the PLA spiritomb sidequest. Named the spiritomb after her and got it to level 100%, I liked her a lot. Would fit Pokenormals vibes, but probably more of a season 2 kind of thing. Oh, and the fight dojo's former gym leader of Saffron. Always wanted to do stuff with him, kind of wild that in another timeline he'd be one of the og 8.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/59572648/chapters/193099921https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14397816/10/Pok%C3%A9mon-In-Mine-OwnWhat is Shugorei? Where does such a creature come from? And what will it give, for the sake of falling tears? And though the battle for the FableGen facility may have ended, the secrets of this place, and those within, have not yet been revealed.Tonight, Chapters 10 AND 11 of In Mine Own drop, because it got way too long and I'm taking people's advice to try and split things up to make reading a little easier to approach for everyone. Let me know if this helps out a bit!
>>58603697He’s not technically named, but the dude building the house in Vermillion was a deep cut.
>>58603718>2 chaptersI’m gonna CUM! …prolly cry more like tho
>>58603697>Honestly thinking about it I kind of want to use Vessa from the PLA spiritomb sidequest.Based. Her questline was a big reason I wanted to create a character like Shugorei.
>>58603697>>58603718Considering we have multiple thread anons involving Spiritomb in their works, I find it funny I have plans to include it as well Acerola got brainwashed by a Malamar and wears a pendant possessed by a Spiritiomb. Ultimate haunted prison warden.
You love to see it happen.
>>58603718>ShugoreiAs in Sugar Ray Leonard? I did look up the name, very based name and reference.
>>58602926Based
Has any reader admitted you made them cry?
>>58601952No, I'll have a fic where a Beedrill towers over a Weavile
>>58604263Has a scene you've read ever made YOU cry?
How should I approach or make a story where the Protagonist has a goal that is lowkey unhealthy or getting him alienated from others?Like say, Ash and his dream to become a Pokemon master, he said himself it's to become friends with every Pokemon. But him going all in to the detriment of others, including ghosting his companions as he tries harder? The Latios from the 11th MPM episode is a direct statement that it is impossible for him.
>>58604320Just have the beedrill fly
>holding in your piss for so long that your kidney stones become a rock/water geodude variant
>>58604443I am actually a huge crybaby and cry while writing a few times.
>>58604974depending on the scenes i dont think thats necessarily a bad thing, anon
>>58604458Me giving you advice is completely contingent on if your story actually is about Ash.
>>58605065Yeah. Basically dipping into the more negative aspects of it.
>>58605108It'll be a boring story because we all know it's a retarded "goal" and it's literally impossible to accomplish. It's not fun or interesting at all. It's doomed from the get-go. It's a childish dream of a childish retard who's been flanderized ten times over because of Yuyama's fetish of never letting Ash be anything successful.Plus, interest on Ash is at an all-time low. Who'd wanna read a not-angstfic about Ash realizing his dream is actually impossible (something anyone with two neurons to rub would have realized instantly) and then seeing him be depresso over it or just have him retardedly keep pursuing it anyway being retarded enough to not realize it's impossible or him pretending to be retarded to avoid thinking about how it is impossible? For that type of story you want the goal has to at first sight something that is good, positive, even admirable, and it has to be feasible, possible, doable, but as you look beneath the surface there's more fucked up implications to it. And has the character taking it to such a ridiculous extreme it becomes harmful to themselves and even the others around them and the people who care about them.A prime example of such a thing is FSN's Shirou's Hero of Justice ideal.
>>58604985Yeah, its just a fact. I cry during my favorite anime scenes too, and during disney movies. Franky levels of drop of the hat tears.
>>58605143It wouldn't be the core story but rather something that comes out of the main story changing his view point while keeping his character in tact.He might obsess over how to do it but won't think about the consequences from going all in.
>>58605171>and during disney moviesJesus, anon.Even my nice would call you a sissy faggot.
>>58605143Nta but I could see it being done not as a angsty way but rather it shaping external issues. Like, if he's gonna try hard befriending everyone then it wouldn't be him being angsty or edgy over it but his oblivious nonsense pushing everything else to the side.
>>58605194>his oblivious nonsense pushing everything else to the side. That might be more on point it can seems a bit excessive if it happens too dominantly. Shit like him breaking promises or missing out on events in his life or the ones of his friends would be the limit.
>>58605180That's fine, your neice has probably never taken a kick boxing class in her life so I don't feel threatened.
>>58605194The problem is that such oblivious nonsense has always worked out for him. It started to not work out so late into the game would just feel off. I hate to say it, but even for how badly written Ash has gotten to be, it would just feel weird and off. There's a reason why, for example, that Rotomdex episode is so derided even by the biggest SMfags.Frankly, I wouldn't bother doing it with Ash. It's just more trouble and baggage than its worth it.
>>58605242This has me thinking of a suggestion. Ash is now THE world champ in the anime. This means Ashfags are now something that will inevitably exist in universe (I actually had one in one of my fics as a one off gag). So why not take that original idea and apply it to a young trainer who idolizes Ash, but doesn't have his luck/divine blessing/plot protection. So he tries to act like how Ash does but it just doesn't work out for him despite how optimistic he tries to be. Could go either 'he has to find his own way of doing things instead of trying to be someone else' sort of character growth, or edgy 'this is how you be the world champ why am I not good enough to do it right' sorta thing.
>>58604458I thought being a Pokemon master meant being the strongest Pokemon trainer
>>58605268That's just mostly gonna end up in skinwalker boredom.
>>58605289Yeah if you're bad at writing it.
>>58605286They were loose with the definition over the years. It took over two decades for Ash to define what it meant to him which was important. His fans were extremely touchy about it as well because they always misconstrued the mention of his lacking details as "You just want him to fuck off, you are not a fan". I got once a fat ton of shit for pointing out that he's basically going around having no fucking clue what it means for him to be a Pokemon master with one personal threat.
>>58605295It would still be skinwalking the majority of the time with the diverging point making up only 5% of the entire work.
>>58605268isn't that just MHA: Vigilantes?
>>58605306Was about to mention that.
>>58605306Maybe, never read it.
>>58605303>the diverging point making up only 5% of the entire workWhat an odd statement. You realize a writer actually gets to decide how much a story would diverge, right? So you can make it diverge as much or as little as you want it to.
>>58605330The odd of balancing it are too scuffed in the case of Ash due to his flanderization over the years making it tricky to pin down what would be the own deeds of the character imitating him and just another skinwalker under the illusion of diverging.
>>58605108You’re an adult and you want to unironically write an Ash fic? Lmao
>>58605340Nobody is forcing you to write it, but why are you so pessimistic about your writing skill? You should see difficult prompts as puzzles to solve and challenges to overcome. Dismissing ideas outright can lead to creative stagnation. Looking at the potential flaws in a concept is a good skill to have, but the next step should be asking what it would take to overcome those flaws. What solutions can you come up with to circumvent the issues you forsee, or how can you utilize the perceived flaws and turn them into things that improve the story instead of bringing them down. You don't have to like or want to write every idea, but your justification for not liking it is a bad excuse that holds you back as a writer.
>>58604458>including ghosting his companionsPretty sure he already does, Dawn had to call him and told him to stop being a faggot because he didn't call her even once when he was in Sinnoh multiple times in Journeys iirc, finding Cilan, Misty and Brock was mostly luck too. Also I'm surprised Ash discussion lasted this long without the usual guy sperging lmao
>>58605268>but doesn't have his luck/divine blessing/plot protection*Cough KieranDLC Cough*
>>58603718Finished chapter 10 to say good shit. Hype beast type shit. If it wasn't obvious I like spooky paranormal shit.
>>58604584Not enough
>>58605268Hey, You! I can smell the ESCALATION from this post!!
>>58606652I am genuinely confused.
>>58605268for me, it’s my oc one-shotting all of ash’s pokemon
It's weird not having a resentment towards Ash, so many of you niggas seem to hate the fool
does anybody care about Horizons fics?
>>58607084>It's weird not having a resentment towards Ash, so many of you niggas seem to hate the foolThe world isn't black and white, some like him, some hate him, others don't care and many would just think "hey, I remember that kid" then move on. We don't really talk about him that much here if at all like most PCs/MCs beyond maybe a few opinions if someone asks for help to get an idea, though there are some autists that aren't even regulars here that come here and start seething with a minimal mention of Ash, we ignored some retarded faggot too because his ideas were just bad instead of the characters used.Anyways I like him but I don't talk about him here because while he can be used for a story he has a lot of baggage and its hard to think of a way to make him work as MC
>>58605268>Ash is now THE world champ in the anime. This means Ashfags are now something that will inevitably exist in universeNot according to Yuyama-sama.Can you believe that Ash being World Champion got acknowledged just once? And it was like 5 seconds before the episode ended?
>>58607084I don't get how anyone can have a serious opinion on a cartoon character like Ash. It's like saying you detest SpongeBob. The people who care are actually autistic or just so far down the rabbit hole that there's no distinguishing them anymore.
>>58607128I've seen them pop up while searching but I care them the same way I care about Ashfics, which is to say I ignore them.
I wonder if there's any incentive to become a region champion (let alone a world champion) to begin with in one's story. If I would create one, their goal isn't to be a Pokémon Master, but to be strong enough to explore the entire world without boundary; like being able access areas restricted to only regional champions, or to meet monsters and people from all walks of life.>>58605268I think Ash will be less known as a champion than a Pokémon Drifter; one who aimlessly go from one place to the next to meet people and monsters like he always has in his adventures. I even bet everyone forgot about him in the same manner that they forgot about Team Rocket (which, I assumed, the organization collapsed without the TRio knowing about it).
>>58607875>I wonder if there's any incentive to become a region championMoney and women, what else would you ask for?
>>58607875Maybe they want to change something. Could be something really stupid too, like free lunch at school
>>58607476>Yuyama-samaWho? That was rhetorical, I don't care.
Ash? I would give him a gun and a stick then throw him in EDGY Fanfic Orre

I hope you find something soon, anon, and not too stressful with the holidays coming.
>>58610818Honestly felt like I’ve posted in the thread too much the past week. New PoPT probably on Friday. It was my birthday this past weekend and was busy with all that entails. Also was having a hard time with an Irida scene, which I’ve figured out now but am too busy with work to get to now that I’ve figured it out.
>>58610818There's no major fics going on right now. Everything is short slice of life stuff or smut.
>>58590337>TQType Match ups, Movepools, and Abilities. When it comes to writing fight scenes i want it to be somewhat believable That pokemon A can beat pokemon B if the former had the right moves and ability even if it had the type disadvantage and wasn't fully evolved. I also want the fights to be close so that it can go either way because i find one-sided beatdowns to be boring. Unless i need the latter to win for story purposes. In which case, i just make pokemon B have the type advantage, stronger moves, and better ability.
>>58610849>>58610990I realize now that this is because I have caught up on these stories that it feels like they've slowed down because I don't have the next chapter ready to go. And that my own writing has slowed down recently. What has slowed down is me.
>>58611165Making every fight a close match is the first instinct of a lot of writers, but I wanna say that easy fights have their places in stories too. They are a narrative tool that can be used well or poorly. This may come off as unsolicited advice, but I'd ask yourself what about close fights interest you, why they interest you, why easy fights seem to lack them, what are possible ways you can translate these things to easy fights, and if there are other things of interrst that you might be able to put into short fights.Hmm... this was supposed to be a short suggestion but it kind of got out of hand.
>Finally have a smidgen of time>Words flowing out of me>Google Docs suddenly disconnects, won't allow me to type anything>Reset computer, router, etc.>Still won't work for me, everything else is fineGuess I'm writing directly into Ao3 like FFfag for the foreseeable future.

>>58611515Lol, I do it in my phone
How often do you add obscure references while writing? They don't have to be about Pokemon
>>58611803Lmao, my fic is a mesh, almost a tidal flood of references. I can't exactly claim they're obscure though.
>>58611803Constantly. I would say it's somewhat of an obsession, and at times worry that it detracts from my writing, because often I buikd my fics around the idea of obscure references that nobody is going to understand. Literally the character in Crystal Light with the second highest amount of screen time is a reference to an unamed NPC. PokeNormal is, I am ashamed to admit, references the fanfiction. The only saving grace I can claim is that they usually are either described subtle enough and they are often referencing such obscure things that they go completely unnoticed byeneath the absolutely in your face references. But I highly doubt I'm being as subtle as I think I am. But I just gotta throw my hands up and day 'fuck it' cause its what I want to do.Honestly, the first ever comment I got on Crystal Light ruined my expectations because it picked up on pretty much every little reference I put in. They noticed the freaking Zubats. Been chasing that high ever since.
>>58610818I'm a newfag here and yet to start my long list of ideas but one particular I'm still collecting material for is where Blaine, Silver, Newtwo and Genesect team up to defeat (Neo)Plasma in a BW2 setting. Also does anyone know fics that explore Silver well? I want to especially do him justice.
>>58611803There are an uncomfortable amount of /m/ references in my writing. Including but not limited to:>A Gaogaigar quote>One of Mazinger Z's special attacks>A very strained reference to the "Tengen Toppa" of Gurren Lagann's title
>>58611946Unfortunately the material I have read for Silver is not that good. I think you'd be better off making your own intepretation than have it be influenced and shaped by someone elses fanon.
>>58611946there is These Silver Eyes but it's a self-insert story so it's not really Silver
>>58612346It's good enough if you're into shameless power fantasy while thinking it's not tho

>>58612387>"Now's not the time to express regret!" I barked, silencing the old man. "You'll tell me what you did to me or else.">He quickly gave up on explaining at my merciless gaze, merely bowing his head.>"...I was not the one tasked with overseeing your progress. I only saw you occasionally… but from my understanding, we were tasked with injecting the cells of Mewtwo inside of you. I merely extracted those cells before giving them away.">"What…?" Green said in horror. She glanced at me in horror and I had a carefully blank expression on my face.>"Why?" I asked coolly.>"I'm not aware of the reason why. It was not my jurisdiction," Fuji replied.>"So which scientist's jurisdiction was it?" I pressed with narrowed eyes.>"Please... I just. I just wanted to save my daughter," he said brokenly, gazing at me pleadingly. "I never intended for any of this...">I said nothing, staring at the tears forming in the old man's eyes with a tilted head.>Then, I slowly walked up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder, leaning in to whisper into his ears.>"I don't give a fuck about your daughter. Stop bringing her up like I care," I muttered cruelly.>"If anyone asks, we don't know each other. If I find out you said anything before I speak to Blaine… You and him are gonna be in for a bad time," I pulled out my Pokedex and waved it, before shoving it in my pocket.>"Thanks for your time, Dr. Fuji. Stick to caring for abandoned pokemon. You never know how much longer you'll be able to do it.">"You're... you're a monster," he sobbed in defeat.>Green whirled and glared at him with all the fury in the world but I simply looked back at him with a cold glint on my apathetic face.>"Monster... I wonder if that's what you called me while experimenting on me. I'm just the product of an environment that you participated in. You created two monsters, now reap the consequences of being a fucking idiot," I sneeredIt's bad but funny at the same time
>>58612416>I slowly walked up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder, leaning in to whisper into his ears. "I don't give a fuck about your daughter. Stop bringing her up like I care,"LMAO. Funny thing is I was considering involving Mr. (Dr.) Fuji as well so this reads like a parody of what I've been imagining in my mind.
>>58612416here's the continuation>"Hey, Mewtwo," I said warily, watching as the pressure built up.>I was ignored. Of course I was, Mewtwo wasn't mad for himself... no, this was the most dangerous kind of anger.>Anger because of the wronging of someone you loved. It's exactly what drove me to annihilate Team Rocket.>"Disgusting human. You are the cause of everything that has caused me turmoil. I was correct, there is no place in this world for a clone when humans like you exist.""Mewtwo, wait!" I shouted with wide eyes.>It was moot.>I could only watch in horror as Fuji let out a panicked cry... before his body abruptly crumpled to the floor.>It was as if his strings had been cut...>"I have gathered my resolve," Mewtwo said coldly.>I watched numbly as a Cubone slowly walked up to the man. It confusedly tapped the elder with its bone.>Even as Mewtwo teleported us away, all I could see was the tears of realization forming on the Cubone's face. All I could see was the Growlithe nudging Fuji's side.>This time, thankfully, I did not hear the wails.>It wasn't hard to imagine it, though.

>>58612737The more you attempt to use AI to actually write stuff, the more you’ll realize it simply can’t capture the relatable human element. There are beautiful moments of organic inspiration that AI can’t have, and may not ever have. Try to write your first chapter, or even first scene, and then have AI try to do it without feeding it your first chapter. The differences will blow you away and get that creative fire in your veins. The high of writing a chapter I’m proud of can’t be matched by anything else I do in my day to day life.I will also mention, AI can’t be a good consultant. Like a thesaurus is for descriptions, but you can do it for plotting and dtory structure. It won’t be as good as the stuff you come up with.

>>58611200Been giving this a lot thought and well. I would say it's because they're just not that memorable to me. That and well the main character in my story is an Ace Trainer who has been to five regions and conquered four of them. So him being on a one-sided beatdown would have to happen between him and someone like Leon who is stated by Gamefreak to be the strongest Champion. Well at least until Victor or Gloria defeats him. But thanks to your post i was able to come up with a funny idea revolving-around a one-sided match. But i'm still currently in the beginnings of my current story so it will be awhile before i can use that idea.
>>58613243This. Try the /vg/ - /aids/ thread instead if you want to go woe is me over how AI gaped your creative ability.
I'm about to try this in my WIP, but are there any examples of a non-important geographic place having a name that slightly shifted and flies under the radar until the "reveal?"Gonna throw a hypothetical: the cave where Giovanni hangs out after leaving Team Rocket was initially called "Giovanni's Cave." But as years went by, and locals wanted to hide that THE Giovanni lived there for a time, so they started calling it "Vaughn's Cave." I think it'll be a pretty neat twist with implications of craaaaazy shit to come. Just curious what other works have done something like this (they don't have to be Pokemon Fanfiction) and whether it'd be kind of a cheap reveal.
Do you think Porygon gets bullied by other mons because they don't consider it a real Pokemon?
>>58613952I'm now picturing Giovanni living in that cave like some subterranean critter. It could just be leading into a proper rocket hideout.
>>58614079Porygon was once Silphs mascot, even had a TV Show. But after a broadcast disaster caused several seizures the Company pinned all the blame on Porygon and ice'd the character. Now it rots trapped and betrayed in a floppy disc somewhere. Few people know it's even a real Pokémon and thinks its a fictional character.

>Cutiefly can pick up the auras of living things. It skillfully reads those auras to predict its foes' movements and make fools of them.strongest aura user
>>58614725I prefer the concept isn't included in stories. Outside of instances where it makes more sense, like soul or mind attacks, all it does is make the world feel like a video game to me.Nothing can really explain why defense has a physical/special split anyways. There are some plausible to be made for attack, but I've yet to see any for defense. Especially since HP is its own stat.I didn't like each time it came up in Prince of Funkpop Town, but despite the blows to immersion it was easy enough to overlook since the rest of the story was good.
>>58614725I was thinking about it and since I've been on a One Piece kick it reminded me of one of the power systems in it (there are several different power systems in One Piece). Haki is pretty much One Piece's version of Aura, and one technique you can use with it is to push your aura out through an attack so that flows through an opponents defenses and damages them internally. That is pretty similar to special attack in a mechanical sense, bypassing the physical toughness. It feels kind of janky to say, but to sum it up in Pokemon terms... Physical attacks hurt their body, special attacks hurt their aura.

Would adapting our supernatural horrors into the pokemon world be too out of place in a fic?I'm talking like a trainer and their team getting stalked by a non-pokemon skinwalker that ends up replacing a member of the team, they find out when the "pokemon" doesn't go back into the pokeball.A village getting cursed by some evil spirit god creature and starts ritually sacrificing people and pokemon while grafting their parts onto the creature to give it a physical form.A colony of man faced Earth rats and birds preying on ratatas and pidgeys.
>>58621797Crossovers are cool as fuck, if anything it's the edginess that's more likely to feel out of place.

>>58621422That’ll be the April Fool’s chapter. If Irida doesnt start pegging everyone first.
>>58620896Arceus and Jesus are tight
>>58621881Please don't put that though into my head or I'll start writing unspeakable fanfic.
>>58621797That's part of the vibe I'm going for with PokeNormal, while keeping it more kid friendly. I would totally read a full hard core horror style story, though there is a sdifference between horror and edginess. They can overlap due to potentially sharing themes of violence and death. Its not outright a problem, just try to be aware of the kind of horror you want to write.Man, its been a while since I've written horror lewds.
>>58621797I'm trying that out right now, but I'm explicitly writing an edgefic. One of my players laughed when the horrible bioweapon tried to reciprocate the "when trainers' eyes meet" challenge before getting blasted and set on fire by the other guy and his mon. I'm planning to Pokeify certain horror/pulp stuff like Pokenormal, just gonna avoid the hokey shit like the slender Mr. Mime and SmileDog, which are already too overdone and instantly recognizable to feel afraid. Clefairies with Yithian lighting guns after their craft is downed or their work is interrupted as an example. Either that or just throw pure unadulterated terrors at them for fun out of the blue like the shit from the Book from Unremitting Horror. Totally unchanged, completely alien/unknown and thus very threatening to the setting. Horror works because it interrupts what is the safe, normal, and baseline and I can't think of anything safer and more comfortable than a fun pokemon adventure.
>>58622115Hell, I'll even say that playing the malicious side of Pokémon straight can be horror enough, real Yokai shit. Imagine a kid and his best buddy dog mon being stalked by a very strong and very hungry Gengar. That's an entire horror scenario already. "Kegare is a really fascinating sin-analogue concept to a gaijin like me, specifically because great chunks of it are separate to a person's actions and morals. Uncleanliness is a natural but corrupted state that needs to be actively expunged through prayer and purification rites, not an ethical foundation. It's tied to social evils like murder but also death and corpses in general, sickness and even being the victim of rape. It basically forms the foundation of ghost legends in that coming to be associated with the afterlife is not only inherently unclean, but something that can 'just happen', as opposed to the more moralistic Western view of 'if you go looking for trouble it will find you'. That's what I mean when I say Japanese philo/spiritualism is fatalist - I've heard it theorised that Japan's abundance of tsunamis, earthquakes and natural disasters as a whole may be a reason for this 'shit just happens and you can lose your life/soul by being in the wrong place at the wrong time' approach, but that seems very generalizing to me. It is very interesting to read about though, and definitely relevant to the east's unique take on ghosts/monsters. This is also where you get this sort of thing as well.A big part of their mythological background is that if you ignore evil spirits, they'll usually fuck off and leave you alone. Acknowledging them is generally a bad idea."- /lit/ or /vp/ anon
Everyone...So no matter what the world is fucked, huh? Why should I care about canon them?
>>58622821>arceus isn't god also everyone is deadstate of pokemon

>>58621797I plan on having a skinwalker inspired chapter that's moreso a hisuian zoroark encounter. I'm sure you could think of Pokémon equivalents for cryptids like that.
