ITT: Pick an Atari 2600 game and post your score. If you see a score and think you can beat it then go for it! Previous thread: >>11447479This game is definitely ambitious and I wouldn't say it's bad, but compared to other arcade ports from the time it's mediocre. Also kind of funny that Atari couldn't release their own game on their own console because of Parker Bros
>>11479090womp womp
>>11479090Never played it. Think I might have a go at it when I come home after New Year's...
In honor of Popeye becoming public domain tomorrow, here's a Popeye score. This port is especially hard compared to the NES version at least.
>>11480117oh yeah, I forgot popeye was unleashed soon. Time for your B&W Mickey meets Popeye sailing comic
Bump for tonight
Best I can do for now.
This is a weird one. You play as a farmer ( I guess) and you have to dodge coconuts being thrown at you by a monkey hiding up in a tree. Take three hits and the game is over. yeah, it ain't that great, to be honest, but it looks pretty good for a 2600 game.
Tried playing some Jungle Hunt and was thinking of posting a core from my playthrough. But I just suckeed so bad at it. Didn't even get to the last level. Lame or what?
>>11482774This one is pretty neat, and a lot harder than I expected.
I want to upload Space Hawk scores but I keep having the game crash well before I am out of lives. I've never owned a real intellivision, only played it on retroarch via the freeintv core. Anyone know if this game crashes often on real hardware too? Shame if it does, I think it's awesome, way more fun than asteroids IMO. If not then I need some advice on a setup for fixing this.
Just played a few rounds of the 2600 port of Ladybug, which was developed and put out by the fine folks at Champ Games in 2006. Pretty rck solid version if you ask me...
Laser Gates (aka Laser Volley when it was re-released by Zellers a few years later). I got up to 16'000 points, then got my ass handed to me.
Interesting little game right here.
>>11483539Yeah. The difficulty really spikes after the first few rounds.
>>11483658I haven't heard of that and I thought it was a relatively known game, but idk. I can play it on hardware later, any clue on what scores you were hitting or other conditions like that? Until then, you can try the Space Hawk releases on the Intellivision Lives games.A more common bit of bug trivia about this game is that it sometimes randomly warps due to the controller's encoding resulting in false button presses, but I don't know which emulators are even capable of recreating the inputs to make that happen and I've yet to see it.
>>11484394oh so that's what was happening, I had that happen every once in a while in retroarch freeintv and thought it was me not understanding how the numpad emulation worked. I was hitting around 30-40k when the game started halting. I may look into the intellivision lives releases for now, though I have read the DS version has notable flaws despite the effective support for numpad via the touch screen. There's also nintellivision emu for DS, which I may check out, but need time to install. Hope I can play more soon, game is addictive.
Been playing this little hack of Ms. Pac-Man where they made the ghosts and Ms. Pac-man look like vector lines instead of sprites. It pretty much plays the same as the original, but for some reason I can get higher scores on this one.
Cool little homebrew of Space Invaders. One thing I really like about this one is that you can hold down the fire button and just unleash rapid fire shots at the aliens. There's also little cut scenes at the end of each round, which is a neat little touch. All in all, a really cool version of a classic game.
>>11483130Get gud and save the lady!
>>11487285Good as I can get for now.
Another great Pac-Man hack. This one keeps track of your high scores while you're playing.
Dang it. Those cannibals can just eat her ass for now..
>>11484013I found two different versions of this one, they were both good enough to be real releases. The flicker gave the photos an interesting look
>>11489589
>>11489589>>11489591That one looks really nice. Good scores as well.
Bump
>>11479090Difficulty A/A
>>11482239
>>11491003Nice. i'll try to beat that later on.
>>11483539The visuals of a Colecovision game with the gameplay of a Game&Watch
>>11480117Pretty fun, after I learned you can punch the projectiles that is. Maybe I'll try the NES one.
>>11491058Pretty accurate assessment.
I don't think I'm gonna beat this score tonight.
>>11491273I never played the 2600port. i have played the NES port though, and I thought it was pretty good.
What a weird Donkey Kong clone. When you get halfway up the level, KIng Kong heads towards the bottom of the screen, and the things he throws towards you start heading towards the top of the screen instead of down towards the bottom.
Wave 9 in Klax is a real bitch
Bumping the thread for tomorrow
This is a lot tougher than Centipede.
>>11479774This was a tough score to beat. You know the game is getting serious when it hits you with that green on yellow eye assault.
>>11491515
>>11495564I used to call that the "pea soup" level.
>>11483658>>11484394Played on hardware finally, got to 40k a few times and never had anything like a crash or program hang. This was on an original model Intellivision, so minimum executive rom fuckery, which can be another cause of issues. This is the most extensively I've played this game, and the numpad jank got pretty irritating. If it really is a hardware problem then I feel sorry for the devs. "Black holes" are one thing, but having to frequently reset autofire and other settings felt more like I had a malfunctioning space suit.Pic was on fastest game speed but easiest control settings: autofire, no inertia, fast turning. Inertia was fun to use on other plays but it simply isn't as good as non-inertia.
>>11495564I've been hardstuck at the 70k barrier (Fast Cursor) for a while.Maybe if I build a trackball setup I can tackle the arcade version next.
This is a neat little game. What you do is that instead of shooting the enemies directly, you have to shoot the ceiling above them so that bricks fall down on them and kill you. Shooting the enemies directly only makes them multiply
>>11496774A little better screenshot to give you a better idea on what the game looks like. Also, i should point out that you have to watch out for the falling bricks you shoot out of the ceiling. They can kill you as well...
A little homebrew action.
>>11495564Forgot to post that this was game 1 difficulty A/A
>>11492994Game 1The hitboxes are quite generous and the changes from Donkey Kong seemed pretty fresh and interesting for just being a single stage. Reminds me of Pick Axe Pete on Odyssey2.The story/setting is completely ridiculous as it relates to the actual game behavior. One of the great things about 2600 games is that instead of trying to suspend disbelief beyond sanity, you can just imagine your own story instead.Black background, strange structure, giant monster that can fly off and come back on the other side like the Twilight Zone gremlin, strange devices that can move over gaps, launch you away, and even reverse gravity? Sounds like an awesome sci-fi rescue mission to me.
>>11497874Oh and I almost forgot, I am really not a fan of how you stop moving if you hit a diagonal direction.
>>11495009Got to about round 15.I could have had a way higher score if I'd read the manual before playing
>>11489503This game is in the "strangely satisfying" genreGame 1
>>11497945Game 7
>>11484061It took me too many rounds to realize the objects in the middle frame are probably mirrors and aren't meant to be hit on purpose
>>11497964Yeah. They're just there to waste your time.
>>11497945>>11497950Yeah. It's a fun little game. I find it hard to position your ship to hit two lines at once though.
Check out this hack of Space Invaders called Pac Invaders. The differences being that it runs on a timer instead of the three lives play mechanic, and the invaders don't go all the ways down to the bottom of the screen. It's pretty cool.
Ugh. I ain't too good at this one....
Phoenix is a very solid Shmup. Easily one of the most recommendable games on the VCS.
Another Pac-Man hack. This one looks like Pac-man Plus with the green maze. But it plays pretty much like some of the other Pac-Man hacks out there...
>>11499109I agree. it's a great game.
Another Pac-Man clone. This one is called Pesco, and I think it came out in the late 90's.
This port of Mappy looks and plays awesome.
>>11488329Difficulty A/AI think this game would have benefited from paddle controls, it's a bit too sensitive and requires you to go from one side to the other frequently
>>11500160I agree.
>>11496792>>11496774Funny concept with some pretty cool art...and a game over screen that shows none of it.Game 1 difficulty A/A
>>11487303Difficulty A15k gets you the patch. The manual also asks you to send a photo if you hit the max one million points, which a youtube video shows as taking over three hours straight, but doesn't say what you would get if you did send in that score. It would have to be one hell of a patch.
The sequel may have more mechanics and variety, but I don't prefer it over the original. The manual is kinda lame too.
This isn't even an actual game, just an old hack of the first one. All the 2s look fucked up, which you can see in the 10k digit. It's different but nothing special.
>>11500189It was probably big as somebody's head.
>>11500232Never seen that one before. Where did you find it?
>>11500223Yeah. Could never get into it. Too many moving parts.
>>11500167Yeah. Weird isn't it?
>>11500253It's in a 2600 champion collection set, at first I thought it was legit and I'd just never heard of it for some reason
