They originally die to six double barrel shots, in QBJ3 it's taking four. It takes three to kill ogres and seemingly five to kill vores (which also leads to a gib). Scrags and knights are dying in one shot from it, death knights in three, shamblers in six.
The real nasty gun so far seems to be this rebar "stake" launcher in the super nail gun slot: It shoots slightly slower than the original double barrel, deals either twice or slightly more than twice its damage, and penetrates like a railgun.

He's getting it wrong, they had accrued a number of anti-air cannon barrels over a longer period of time, barrels which didn't meet the consistency standards they had.
Someone gets the idea to make a really big rifled shotgun using one of those rejected barrels, cutting it down and cutting a new chamber in it, and in testing they find that the concept has legs.

Aracnocide has one as Mikhail Kalichev's SSG. It doesn't really sell its power imo since Cosmo used a GURPS-type damage sheet to calculate and scale damage.

Terraria progression also used to remind me of this kind of thing, where your abilities are not given by levelling up, but by what items you had (even if terraria has no durability, and there is some permanent stat increases for health and mana). I've been somewhat fascinated with this concept since I played it a few years back.
I'm not one for map design but it does follow that it gives a mapper a lot more latitude to decide how to design a battle in a map. After all, it is kind of a cliche having a room with absolutely every thing in the game before a big fight for a reason.

It's a Jurassic Park game intended to be a digital sequel to the second movie. Set on Ilsa Sorna
It was being developed at the same time as the movie, but was rushed at the end of development. It has a niche fan base now because it wasn't well received on release (understandably).
It's buggy, crashes, and feels unfinished. But it does a lot of neat things that games weren't doing at the time.
Everything is controlled with physics. The dinosaurs move with physics, everything has a density and mass. Your arm is a physics noodle that you can rotate any reasonable way. Your feet are actually s spinning cube which feels more natural than it sounds like it would.
The audio has what they called a digital foley system. Wood and metal sound different and when they hit they make a unique sound compared to if the wood hit dirt or something.
The levels are big and full of vegetation, which was rare in a 3D game in 1998. They did this by dynamically converting the models to sprites at a distance. The objects cast silhouette shadows on the ground.
It was also the first game I personally remember seeing normal maps.
Really all of this was too much, and the game was released in a poor state, over promising and under delivering. The physics function on a 1998 machine but are limited in their accuracy so things bounce too much, clip a little, get lodged in each other. It usually works very convincingly, but is unreliable so there was a limitation to what you could use it for puzzle wise.
The dinos, also being physics based, bobble around a lot. They do have their needs system, but it barely works so they're pretty much just set to "mad" all the time. But if you lure a velociraptor to a t rex the t rex will kill it and start eating it. They're supposed to find water to buy that barely works.

It's a weird game. Ambitious and arrogant in design. I love it.
Also Richard Attenburough and Minnie Driver do a great job in it.

I did consider that, yes. If he was telling the truth and it is just the one area that he copied, it doesn't add much to what's already there. It's just a short, icy corridor towards the beginning of the map.

Mostly interesting level design, first take on 'objectives', fun weapon functions. Arguably more "advanced" than Duke3D in many ways and also came first. I'm not a Star Wars fan so I don't enjoy it as much as Duke or other Build games, but it's still good.
