>>
>>3659856
no
its possibly good on builds that do high single-target damage as a way to do even more damage with one attack (snipe, aimed shot, impale, super slam, etc)
but for that you'd need to have the cost be low, via tranquility or premed

you can break rocks with it by casting implosion then recurrance

I see. I guess I'll try it out on some future sniper build

It's only a scam once you realise you can steal other jetskis. But you can't steal them without having your own to get there. Think of it as an investment.

Persuasion is basically a story only skill, intimidation can get very funny with a TC knife build. Plus you can use yell to flush out crawlers.

PK + premed is always a good combo for guns, means you can make a chokepoint or put out stuns/rooted and enable Opportunist. If you're not using it for direct damage it's a very cheap school to splash in.

>>
>>3660262
Shotguns are solid. They have a lot of built in armor pen, letting you kill things like industrial bots easily even without special ammo and leading shot lets you ignore most of the target's evasion. Just make sure you have a lot of mobility so you can run into the effective range of the shotgun and get out. Sprint, hit and run, tabis etc.

There are problems with this approach which all lead to the same conclusion, it all just comes too late.
By the time you can acquire enough feats levels or resources to craft the mobile can your character is likely so strong they can handle anything anyway. Super steel armor to me always felt like you're already winning but you want to win harder and not an actual viable solution to anything.

Nimble+bodyweight training is 25% so I assume you're trying to make your supersteel armor with <50% base ap? If so then it seems counterproductive. You dont get a bonus from juggernaut, you cant max out your armor plates for maximum protection and you cant wear metal boots if you want to stay at 0% ap.
For example this is from my nimble can, I have exactly 50 MP without buffs (but with drifter tatoo) and 40% AP. No bodyweight traning either. I wouldnt want to give up any armor protection and especially one of the veteran feats for a few more movement points.

For the longest time I had it in my head the reason tungsten slugs stun is because they concuss, as in you hit someone in the head with it and they just get a concussion, rather than it just hits their armor or what have you so hard that they have the wind knocked out of them

>>3660740
it's a shame the game punishes being a switch-hitter. Being able to pull a knife to stab a dude that gets too close would be ludokino, but instead you're better off just shooting the guy with the guy you specialized in
>>
>>3660741
Psychosis, no question. There's no reason to cast 20 times in 1 turn when you can pop Mania and clear a room in 1 cast.
>>
>>3660742
Versatility
>>3660743
What happens when you can't end combat in one turn?
>>
>>3660748
You've still got all your other toys, you just want hemopsychosis because you're going to burn psi fast.
Alpha strike is what the game is all about. Tranquility is like pre-buff miniguns, comes out on top over a long enough period of time but combat is never going to last that long.
>>
>>3660748
>Versatility
Anyone got any good (well, decent) builds with versatility that actually make use of more than one weapon?
>>
>>3660760
desu, no.
But I did a versatility build just for the lemurian spear. it was not worth it but it was fun
>>
>>3660760
There is a funny build where you go balls deep into versatility, max dexterity and go pistols with 3 PER. You put points into melee and 90% of melee skill gets converted to guns and it ends up dealing more damage with pistols than if you were to do some dex/per split.
Nobody uses a melee weapon with that build but you could if you really wanted to.
>>
>>3660749
While you're generally right, there are exceptions. The numbers and terrain of places like Apogee and some native bosses make a first turn victory impossible
>>
>>3660763
Yeah, that's what I thought
>>3660766
>dealing more damage with pistols than if you were to do some dex/per split.
that's exactly the build I was thinking were versatility just being used to buff one weapon instead of using two freely.
you can use the knife but just shooting the pistol in melee range is more effective
>>
>>3660760
Stick versatility and cooked shot on a crossbow build, bring an acid pistol, now you've got a fast, on the go way of setting up deadly snares.
>>3660767
I agree, but I didn't mean that past turn 1 tranquility is better. Another difference is that a tranq build can't afford to lose HP and isn't using hemopsychosis, while a psychosis build can cast as normal and actually use its HP bar.
If it does go on for a longer while then yes, tranquility is better.

>>
Does anyone ever actually take that body horror feat from the health center quest and not just kill the robot or resist if you got the will?
>>
>>3660379
Huh? Armor slopped ss armor is 29%. 2 spec points brings it down to 25%, enough so nimble and bw brings it to 0
>>
>>3660965
Why not? Resolve doesn't matter, crit does.
>>
>>3660962
At the high end you can be hit with a sniper's aimed shot and actually survive instead of being turned into tomato paste. Metal armor is only good when you get to mitigation cap otherwise it's kind of underwhelming.
>>
>>3660962
Not all enemies use guns.
>>
>>3660962
Unless you want tac vests for the psi bonus, its as good as wearing nothing for a lot of encounters (melee, crossbows or even just aimed shots with something other than 5mm)
Its still good early game since metal armor of low to medium quality is pretty much useless
>>
>>3660994

I feel like majority of playerbase doesn't like it but I do. The most interesting part of riot gear is the fact that mechanical resistance(%) against melee is doubled, so here I had this crafted out high quality supersteel and death stalkers on dominating can at best scratch me wearing this and my dude only has 4 con.
>>
>>3661057
Riot gear is good extremely early since it gets a free +2 DT compared to tactical and there are a lot of melee enemies early on.
Past that it becomes incredibly specialised. Good against Carnifex, good against locusts/spiders, that's it. It's still useful sometimes but those times are very rare. You should normally be wearing something else.
>>
>>3661057
I like how it looks.

>>3661067
>>3661065
Is there a general guide on armor? My two playthroughs so far have both been psi with a psi beetle tactical vest and I don't know what else to use know I'm doing melee
>>
>>3661128
If you want high mobility and have high strength then use sloped super steel metal for pretty good DR and low penalty.
If you want high mobility and have low strength then use infused hopper/pig/rathound, depending on if you want even more move points/hp/crit chance. You can use siphoner if you really want but the enemy will always have a small chance to hit you no matter how high your evasion is, so being shot at it always a risk.
If you don't care about mobility go full tungsten and be nearly immune to mechanical.
Tactical vest has no strength requirement and can make you nearly immune to any bullets not fired by sniper rifles, but you already knew that.

There are some other meme options if you want and there are times when specific gear is appropriate (acid resist when in mutant territory, bio resist in mushroom forest, and so on), but that's for general purpose.
>>
>>3661128
I don't think there's a guide but most builds tends to have two sets of armor, one for stealth and one for general purpose. You really don't need any more than that unless you want to, for example some people on dominating craft a 100% electric resistance gear for coil spiders or those dungeons with floor that zaps you and you can just completely ignore mechanics with a full electric set.
Aside from that almost every build can benefit from
>rathound regalia +1 str 0% armor penalty
>power fist +1 str
>infused leather pig boots +30 carry capacity
>large waist pack +50 carry capacity
>lifting belt -5% mechanical resistance
>night vision detection goggles
>cloaking field
>taser
>food buff of every kind
A lot of people ignore food, things like root soda or cooked bat make a bigger difference than people give them credit and things like +1 main stat are just obvious.
>>
>>3661128
I guess you can browse the wiki to check what different armors do.
Infused leather armors have some special effects, for example infused rathound grants ~10% crit chance for weapons (not psi), siphoner armor has a lot of dodge and evasion.
Some unique armors are useful too, JKK jacket has initiative, rathound regalia has movespeed.
>>
>>3660111
The compass being enabled completes this image.
>>
>>3661137
It's too easy to forget about food. Lasts too long to be on your mind, but too short that having to pay attention to it is just annoying. Maybe if we could use that thing the AI has where they just auto-consume food. Tag a stack or something.
>>
>>3661172
Zone transition if not in combat and not in stealth if tagged food and not food consume tagged food.

I don't want to just follow builds blindly but I sure would like to know at what point it's not longer worth putting points in a skill. Like no one ever maxes the crafting skills or lockpicking or traps, everyone only goes up to 70 time magic, etc.

>>3661291
Depends on your definition of "lots"
If you want to be able to run to the opposite side of the map and hide behind a corner you have to go balls deep on MP and have 0 armor pentalty with rathound regalia plus tm plus drugs.
Dodge builds can be mobile too and they can be very tough on average if you absolutely max it out, but its rng dependant. A tin can always protects you, dodge will sometimes just not work and you'll have to F9
>>
>>3661294
Basically I want to be able to actually peek around corners and walk back without needing to sprint every time.
My current build is a LMG tin can and it's kinda unfun to have zero movement without sprint even if I win every fight without really moving out of my starting spot
>>
>>3661295
You can do a nimble tin can and thats more than enough MP for repositioning. You can have 40-50 MP without buffs/sprint/contraction and with those things you can really zoom around.
Its a significant investment though - 2 feats and 2 spec points, not to mention the absolute fuckload of money needed for full supersteel armor.
>>
>>3661291
of course

you can make a tough light armor build that has both 10 con and 10 agi, with feats like sprint, fancy footwork, hit and run, strider, and psycho temporal acceleration
eat jumping beans, wear tabis or spring boots

or if you want to lean more into the toughness, be a full tungsten tank and have 7 agi, take sprint and hit and run, eat jumping beans and take the drifter tattoo
TM is good here too

>>3661295
jumping bean, drifter tattoo
thats 15 mp right there
you need 20 to move one square out and one square back, so if you went with slightly less than 95% armor penalty, you could have 20 basically constantly

another option is to wear one of the exoskeletons; they give mp bonuses that ignore armor penalty as well
>>
>>3661295
Shit negro why did you pick the static turret build if you wanted to move around?
>>
>>3661299
>2 feats and 2 spec points, not to mention the absolute fuckload of money needed for full supersteel armor.
That is a little expensive, yeah but it does seem fun

>>3661300

The wiki has a list of skill checks for quests and dialogues, so you can save points in certain places by just raising them to the point you need them.
For example, I only raise effective persuasion to 45 to get SGS to side with the Black Eels. That's something like a 30 point spend, since it increases with mercantile and will.

I hope JKK budgeted for me stealing 10000+ charons worth of guns from the Gauntlet.
I could have recycled all the guns and shot all the ammo and so on while I was in there, so this isn't morally wrong. There's no real difference between me doing that and me taking it and selling it. Morally speaking, it's fine.

What is the least feat intensive weapon? For example I know swords absolutely require flurry, spears live and die based on having impale and throw, what weapon just works with skill points and attributes and feats are just gravy?
>>
>>3661503
for melee, its hammers
hammer feats are nice but not necessary

the new HD weapons are broken all on their own
>>
>>3661505
you do need the belt though
>>
>>3661503
Chem Pistols imo. Yes, they do have two feats and they're too good to pass, but aside from that you're pretty much free to do as you please.
Knives don't have a required knife specific feat to take for them to work, but there's a lot of melee support feats that you really want (like cheap shots and taste for blood) so I don't think it counts.
>>
>>3661503
Grenade Launcher, Hammer, and Knife can all be ran raw to great effect.
>>
>>3661505

40mm is the only ammo, 25mm may as well not be in the game.
You actually need more AP and more total carry weight to kill with 25mm. I tried to make it work but it was simply inferior in any meaningful way before even considering the Thumper.
I think this could be easily fixed with reducing slightly the 40mm range while increasing meaningfully the 25mm range (also change the dumb short tube = more damage retardation).

If you stack damage reduction instead of armor yeah. Most damage reduction comes from drugs so you'll be limited by the duration and cooldown of the drug.
The technomedic exoskeleton is a good match for this. In addition to a special extra drug it also provides the ability to recharge your shield mid-combat using the energy in the skeleton. Really tanky. Here's my old technomedic hammer/lmg build as an example, just equip spring booties.

Which metal is best for each melee weapon? I'm guessing tri-chrome is the best for knives and tungsten for hammers. On my spear build I'm using tri-chrome spears and The Glaive, I just got a 177 quality steel plate would it be a good end game spear or should I make infused leather with it instead?
>>
>>3661587
Tungsten for everyone that cares about crit (spears get impale, this is you), tichrome for knives and some hammer builds, gloves is all the same.
imo everyone that doesn't want tichrome wants tungsten, I'd use the plates for infused rathound armour.
>>

for gloves all metals are the same

for knife its either tichrome or tungsten combat knife depending on your current dex (at the highest dex its tungsten)

for sword its not so clear; I prefer supersteel for the precision bonus because it makes flurries more reliable and your damage gets insane anyway
if you're not so reliant on flurry, then its tungsten
red dragon is the best though

for spear its tungsten, with javelins for throwing most of the time

for hammer its tichrome sledge (even without tabis) with quake in the offhand

Rathound is best for damage. Other leather types might be more useful defensively or have good utility, but for me it's kill faster.

12 con gates tempered electricity, psi based electric damage is weakness of most tank/cans and this is a rare source of resistance to that
>>
>>3661254
Psychosis, go 9 CON for Last Stand and (if you like) SI, max WIL, 6-8 INT, distribute the rest to taste. You can shave some off WIL for more STR to make a tincan. Get Hemopsychosis asap. Level all 4 schools, prioritise biology and electronics in crafting for drugs + headbands.
Neurology is shit, don't take it. Open every fight with mania'd AoE, mix and match schools for the situation but try to keep it to 2 schools at a time. Premed is obviously mandatory as soon as it's available.
Distribute feats depending on which school you like the most. I like to take Force User every time, Locus is mandatory.
When using Stasis remember you can use it to stretch out 1 turn states, and sometimes you don't want this like with Hemo. Coretech is your best option since they have headband components. Get cryo orb as soon as you get to Core City, you'll see why.

Of course not, but you're better off with a different type of gun for them. You already have the skill and you aren't starved for feats so it's easy to fit pretty much anything.
The size of the aoe makes it so 25mm is effectively a single target weapon and there are cheaper ways to take out a single enemy.

a jav will kill any non-boss for sure, unless they have particularly high DR and HP, like a naga
