I've been playing quite a bit of dawn of sorrow and bloodstain ritual of the night, are there any cool/good cyoas that have a similar premise to casltevania? I think there could be some real potential if you wrote it correctly, plus you could rehash the castlevania classic of "Oh no maxim/richter/freindly rival turned antagonistic is getting corrupted by the castle and turning evil!11" but actually with more weight since it wouldn't be the 2 scenes of being introduced to the dude at the start and then fighting his evil form 40 hours later when you already forgot who he is. I just finished the current version of poma. Fun ideas, but Also annoying ones.I was playing on trash; however, getting 9k checks for nearly worthless stats right before a forced mission where failing leads to you losing 10k gold is a dick move. The refinement system also causes a lot of issues with you essentially being required to spend copious amounts of gold to get anywhere close to enough refinement points to deal with the stat checks. This is exasperating with how you need to spend at least 3 on hp to not die to forced damage in that same forced mission so as to not take a 10k hit to your gold. I've also started to see a worrying trend in the arena fights where it seems that all the fights have a stat check randomly within where you instantly lose if you don't have 10k+ in x stat.The talent gacha system is fucking retarded, especially when manually choosing locks you to 125 exp, forcing you to dump everything into strength to even get past the opening if you don't get a strength related talent. For apparently wanting players to have different builds, there's an extreme focus on stat related talents. Why would I pick iron will if there's only 2 interactions outside of the transformation path? Why would I pick regen when 99% of attacks that should cause bleeding don't, and I have to use a limited resource for it to heal me in fights? Why pick talisman abuser WHEN IT'S FUCKING BROKEN AND DOESN'T DO ANYTHING? Why bother with pristine meridians when the majority of the pills you have access to cap at 2.5k?Stats are also fucked. Strength and agility are by far the best stats in the game, and 90% of skill checks and follow-up skill checks will be one of these. 1/2

Charisma is used to change favor text a few times, and everything else it does needs like 7k+, so no reasonable player will see what those do. The worst part is that you'll still need to get past all the stat checks afterward, so you can't even use it as a way to avoid investing in certain stats. I had an epic business talent, haggler, the bandits, the alchemist, and the restaurant, only to still not make enough. This was even after I took almost all the gold gaining options.Some of the events are also shit. Like the event to gain access to the alchemy shop happens way too fucking late then costs an arm and a part of your ego. 20k and sucking up to that bitch is an insane cost after you most likely already have all your stats higher then 2.5k making it pointless. Or the expedition ending where you sacrifice around 50k gold for 500 exp and a cool scene.TLDR: I had fun, but the game feels patched together with certain parts being better than others, which I suppose is to be expected considering how it was made.

I think auraclash is better than 80% of the railroaded otomeslop on dashingdon. It feels more like an adventure than any of them, and there is a lot of effort put into the different styles/origins and cores. I think its valid to criticize it of course, but its really not trying to be a super serious read, its a tongue in cheek xiania. It not letting you be gay is whatever, if he's not comfortable writting it than I can't really blame him, I know personally I wouldn't want to write trans stuff for example in a cyoa because I'm not super knowledgeable on trans stuff and I wouldn't want to make something thats inadvertently offensive, besides, there are already a ton of cyoas in CoG that do let you be gay or trans made by those people that are into that stuff.

The main issue with brevity is the fact brevity doesn't particularly sell well in the CoG scene. Everyone wants bigger wordcounts, but no one particularly cares that in some cases most of that word count is shameless padding or a waste of time - combine that with the tendency of some writers to endlessly balloon, and that's a way to get The Golden Rose. It could have been much shorter, yes. Would it sell just as well as the book with the tagline of having million words?
