I want to play in north america, should I do an exile build and move there myself or should I build up Spain or something and then release myself as a colony? I really need to read how the Mongols conquered China at some point.Qing makes sense. They were highly Sinicized and unpopular by that point, but the Song were in a golden era, they really should have had more popular support.
>>2287449Do you actually have sea zones without presence?Do you the 2 sea zones consistently hit 100 across the board? If yes and yes then you have not told your boats to patrol the right sea zonesIf yes and no then you don't have enough boatsIf no and yes then you aren't doing anything wrongIf no and no then you are blind

>>2287471There isn't a word for the emotion I feel about EU5.It is hands down better than anything Paradox has offered before, even (allah forgive me for saying this) modded Victoria 2. But despite that fact it has huge problems with bugs, polish, and as seen from all the updates since release developer retardation. The problem is there are that many minute problems that I don't see it ever being fully completed. I'm talking about problems that are so small that you don't even remember them to complain about but put together collectively make the overall experience worse. On top of that the UI is dogshit, but I suppose that's part and parcel with so many mechanics. For example, if you lack tin to build boats you can't just click the alert and get taken to the import tin to (relevant market) screen, you have to click markets, then type in the name of the market in question (if you don't know what market it is you also have to open the market map mode and check), then click import, then reduce your automated trade slider by 1, then select a market to import from, then a month from now when the construction is started you need to remember to cancel the trade otherwise you'll be importing tin you don't need at a loss for years. Basically QoL shit.

kind of disappointed with eu5 coming from somebody who plays florence with the goal of recreating the real roman empirein eu4 the biggest threats were austria, then spain, then france, then the ottomans. It was like 4 story arcs with each progressing in difficulty and making your country more powerful. It actually felt somewhat historical because everybody wanted something from italy. You needed to build the navy to defeat spain who tried to snipe siena/lucca/pisa in the med, you needed to train/upgrade your troops in discipline/morale to defeat austria as they usually claimed venice and tensions start building when you grow eastward, you needed to consolidate and build the fortifications in the alps to defeat france, and you put all that together to defeat the "final boss", the ottomans in the 1500s when they have 300k-500k European level troopsyeah after 2 or 3 wars with the ottomans you pretty much "won" but man i went through this playthrough dozens of times and it was always funin eu5 i dont even know who the HRE is because they dont do shit. The ottomans are dead and ive never seen them grow bigger than anatolia. Castille either gets swallowed by portugal or doesn't even take/unite with aragon. France WAS scary, then they nerfed it and now its a meme once you take the mountains in savoy (because the AI refuses to use more than 3 regs in a stack of levies). Austria always dies to bohemia. General players (redditors and normies) wouldn't accept there being food scarcity in average gameplay. If you were routinely losing pops to starvation every winter they'd claim it was "broken", or "bugged".The game would be vastly improved if they quartered the production value of every food apart from potatoes. In real life Europe only had food security after potatoes were brought in.There should also never be a point where you have food security for more than 50 years. As soon as you get more food your pops should skyrocket until you no longer have enough food to feed them.

they need to do something with the pop demand of goods. The pop growth is pretty slow and fulfilling their needs is extremely easy. There is no incentive for the player to keep the goods prices low, so you just build a few buildings just to fulfil the minimum requirement and stop in order not to lose money

I minmaxed research. It's 1423 and I already researched 90% of the 1-2 age tech, that includes meritocracy (which I embraced more than a decade ago). I believe that Orthodox might be the most OP nation for research right now due to Orthodox Synod which gives you 10 research for 75 religious influence every 10 years, I have a minister farming religious influence 24/7. Also, helps to have 100% satissfaction clergy >>2287690Update your game. Before 1.08 there was a bug that basically guaranteed infinite levies

>>2288345yup, quite a few people been complaining about it on the forums but devs have been completely silent on itand it makes little sense because it's the 2d markers not the actual armies/figures that cause the fps dropI bet you those little 2d markers have super high resolution or some shit that causes it

Everyone bitching about the sandbox would've truly hated EU3. And for that matter the first few years of EU4.
can you generate a unique new world?
I support railroading but mission trees are shit game design and they have fuck all to do with railroading, the AI was not actually programmed to follow mission trees it would just do them incidentally. The only real benefit they gave the AI was perma claims but there are other ways that could be implemented and EU5 barely has a functioning claim system anyways (which is a problem all its own).
>>2288458Source: ass
>>2288461No. And even in EU4 this was a DLC-only feature.
>>2288457>EU4 AI doesn't understand missions like "build X buildings"No, but it's happy to shit up its land with churches anyway, and (besides one mission at the very end requiring a couple of specifically-placed forts in Caucasia) that's the only building the crusader path requires>"have this advisor"The only advisor required at any point is a theologian, and there's a decent enough chance it'll stumble into that randomly.>"dev this province"Literally does not come up at all on the crusader route. Most of the missions that do come up are "take this land we gave you claims on" (AI is perfectly able to do that, most of the time) and "convert this province". The latter actually presents the biggest roadblock, frankly, considering Catholics tend to slap the "Orthodox autonomy" privilege down ASAP and just never convert them

I can't believe that Johan uninstalled EU4 from the railnigger's computers forcing them to play a sandbox game instead.
>>22887321337 is a great start date. It makes the first century a period of preliminary planning and orienting yourself before you begin world domination which fits in with the design philosophy of having more internal focus and management. They simply need to fix how some events work and dynamically adapt AI behavior based on government and leader traits, simple as. A much later start date would do nothing but cuck the scale of the game for no reason and would be gay

>>2288859or shit like Naples fell toAlfonso V of Aragon in 1442, concluding a long conquest and unifying the Kingdom of Naples with Sicily under Aragonese rule, a period marked by the title "King of the Two Sicilies" and subsequent Aragonese control until the early 16th century. Key Events: 1435-1442: The Aragonese conquest of Naples occurred during this period, solidifying Aragonese power. 1442: Alfonso V of Aragon conquered Naples, defeating the last Angevin king, René, and made his triumphal entry in February 1443. 1443: Alfonso V officially assumed the title King of the Two Sicilies (Naples and Sicily). 1501: After a brief French occupation, the kingdoms were formally reunited under Aragonese rule following conflicts during the Italian Wars. This conquest brought Naples under Aragonese control, starting a new dynasty and a significant shift in Italian politics. in EU5 Naples still exists in 1840.
>>2288861You're missing two very important steps in your timeline>1421: Joanna II of Naples, the childless queen regnant, adopts Alfonso V and names him as her heir.>1435: Joanna, having fallen out with Alfonso, instead names René d'Anjou as her heir in her will.without those two events, which aren't set in stone at the start, there's no justification for any of the rest. Yes, Aragon and Naples should both push for reunification of the old Kingdom of Sicily under their rule, but it's not at all unrealistic that it just doesn't happen
>>2288852me personally, I'm a fat roog
>>2288866That's the whole point. It's 1600 and Aragon and Naples still have done nothing. You could literally have a whole event chain for that. You could have Aragon become Naples or Naples becoming Aragon and vise versa. But instead. There is nothing.

There are no true "strategic resources" so if (you) close your market to AI 1, it will just import whatever they were buying from AI 2 and AI 3 instead. If you use economic hegemon to force all of AI 1's neighbors to embargo them, it still barely does anything because by that point it's the 1600's so unless you're putting all this effort into bullying some shitter nation with only two provinces, they will be able to produce everything they need within their borders. You expend all that effort to maybe reduce their trade income a little. >>2289074its surprising to see eu5 be somewhat functional ye
>>2289047>>2289065Part of the issue is there are no trade middlemen. If (you) are buying or selling in Market B and to get there you need to get through Market A, you should be getting gouged. However what happens is Market A only exists for trade "pathfinding" and has no impact on the cost of the trade. Middlemen being scalpers was the whole motive for seeking a trade route to the Orient by circumnavigating the entire planet. Central Asian and Middle Eastern middlemen made a ton of profit by squatting on Eurasian trade routes. Meanwhile in EU5 as your trade range increases with techs you just buy directly from the target market.I guess the devs were worried that trade capacity would be a bottleneck? But if (you) are playing a middleman country yourself, it should incentivize you to build more markets to facilitate the trade flowing through your borders.

I hope it's the direction they take moving forward. The Wrath of Timur mod and red turban rebellion fix mod are 100% perfect and how I would want the game to be. They don't even guarantee a fully historical outcome, they just nudge the game in that direction.3. The history of the era isn't poorly documented at all. You have the Golden Horde surviving, again, for centuries. You have Timur doing nothing. You have the Jalayirids somehow Mongolianising all of Iraq by 1400. You have Gigafrance, you have Giga-Bohemia, you have Russia never forming unless a player outright intervenes, you have procgen [province name] non-countries somehow rising if by some miracle a larger country collapses, in the case of Byzantium being replaced by Byzantion or Edirne. I just hate the historical illiteracy of sandbox enjoyers.I remember in this thread someone who wanted the game to be a sandbox asked why it should be taken for granted that Portugal would be a colonizing nation, he got 3 different anons giving him paragraph explanations of the forces at play before the start of the game and the inevitable path they were on and he just didn't reply. These people genuinely believe history began on April 1st, 1337, that the power vacuum in the Il-Khanate wasn't going to be filled by one power or another, that the Yuan dynasty was just an eternal empire that everyone was happy with.I just do not understand the mindset of playing a history game and having no interest in history. The Civ series exists. If you just want some random historical characters getting up to wacky hijinks like nuclear Ghandi you can have that, but where do history autists go? Where do the people who want a game that simulates the power of the historical current go?

>>2289252We were literally taught a lot of this in US history class. The euros wanted fancy clothes and were willing to help the CSA to achieve it. The Union strategically made the war "about slavery" midway in order to scare the wokepeans off of supporting the CSA. Again, they pretty much say as much in US history class. It is also why redditors sound retarded when they act like it is some uneducated myth to suggest the war wasn't just about slavery. Lincoln project type stuff. Speaking of Lincoln it is even funnier how some leftwing history revisionist group is named after him. If Lincoln lived they'd be calling him a racist and have removed him from the penny by now. The man just wanted to see Americans happy together and wasn't psychotic towards Southerners as he knew that only bred resentment and didn't actually hate them despite not liking slavery personally. Lincoln also wanted to ship all blacks overseas.
>>2289273>only nobles with years of military service may become a musketeer>tfw queueing up 50 regiments of musketeers
>>2289274It was 100% about the south not wanting to give up slavery. If it wasn't about slavery then the CSA wouldn't have been screaming from the rooftops about how they wanted to keep slavery, or writing in their constitution that they reason they seceded was that they wanted to keep slavery.Kill yourself, revisionist.
>>2289079trade capacity is a stupid mechanic as wellThere should simply be fixed costs for trade, and not do trade that is unprofitable
you now remember that anon who was butthurt and furious that Baldwin IV of Jerusalem was a real and actual king
>>2289276The CSA was lazy Jewish and British aristocrats with ties to British intelligence and banking who didn’t want to pay white people to work and just wanted to play textile tycoon with maximum profits that they realized via economic partnership with their cousins across the Atlantic. They were degenerate faggots and ironically the free trade globalist modern west is much more reminiscent of the confederate economic outlook than the union was
slavery needs to end because it's immoral and barbaricnow bring in some more children to have their limbs torn off in my factories
Sherman should have killed every southerner, burned every southern state down, and salted the earth so nothing would ever grow there again.
What a cool patch :)
>>2289274All the states rights and economic reasons for the Civil War are downstream from the fact that the slave states and free states could not coexist any longer without resolving the issue of slavery. As you mention about Lincoln, though, the fact the Civil War was about slavery doesn't mean that abolitionism was motivated primarily by love or pity towards blacks or any moral reason. Poor whites in free states didn't want slavery in Kansas and other parts of the midwest because they saw it as labor competition. They were afraid the slave owners would undercut their small farms and shit up the whole place with their legions of pet africans.

>>2289287when will that happen?
>>2289285Your Austria looks surprisingly successful.
>>2289276Saying it is only because of one thing is retarded. It would be like claiming the allies set out on le wholesome mission to save jews. This Star Wars view of history is the reason for many modern problems. Slavery was a big contentious issue that started to draw lines. But there was so many more factors than just "law was passed like in my Victoria 3 game and it caused IG to be big mad". The issue was surrounded by many more general feelings in the South of the North attempting to sabotage and gentrify it. While the North viewed the South as a blight on the nation that was getting in the way of progress. The Southern states seceded after they lost an election because there became a mass (unfounded of course) panic over what Lincoln was supposedly going to do. Slavery was only part of the whole event like taxation was only part of the American Revolution. Once stuff starts setting in and the ball starts rolling, things start to get a lot more complicated. There is no need for reductionist views.

How would you fix the game?>bring back missions>remove proximity>remove integration of provinces
>>2289320>bring back decisions>add secondary proximity sources>remove hegemons or atleast regionalize them
>>2289298That isn't mutually exclusive with ideas of states rights (although the Confederacy ironically ended up having less of them) and "preservation" though. I guess my main problem when I hear someone say it is about slavery is typically they are being exclusionary and also believe the North was solely going on a moral crusade. The Civil War was all together a shitty event that's main purpose was to chisel away at American's freedoms and needlessly kill as many as possible (still to this day America's biggest loss has been against itself). I'm sure whoever planned it also had fun visions of a beaten and humiliated South becoming some shithole constantly revolting half of the country. They even tried to egg it on with stuff like assassinating Lincoln so the radicals could overrun his ineffective VP to try to turn the South into a proto Weimar and coopting the KKK (originally a vetrans group) into a strange cult that goes around stirring racial tensions. It is honestly surprising stuff like other anons have said hasn't been more studied, as it seems obvious someone was trying to take down America. They even still try to this day. Other than recent stuff like British Labour goons getting caught rigging American polls, I'm sure the globalists also forced stuff like Obama. They, much like the Chinese, view racial tensions as America's biggest "weakness". In many cases they do succeed too, they've enshittified many parts of life surrounding this even if they haven't managed to cause collapse. Although the view of Americans as "racist idiots" is flawed so they'll never fully win.

>>2289340Unironically? It's just a conflict over very similar sentiments fought by the descendants of the same people for a lot of the same broad reasons. Southerners intentionally emulated an elevated ideal of the Cavaliers for decades prior to the war as an opposition to yankee Puritanism and in an effort to demean them northerners ended up adopting a lot of parliamentarian terminology. Southerners during the war also literally just said outright it was an extension of the english civil war too. So it's a popular sentiment among the more well read civil war autists.

>>2289029Embargo is the most overpowered trade thing in the game because it prevents other countries from doing anything your markets. Literally just own the market center location and you have absolute power over it, and there's no maintenance cost or debuff like eu4. You can embargo every country on the planet until nobody can trade in your markets but you. This lets you maximize price differences between markets and farm infinite money by creating artificial scarcity in different markets. It also lets you do things like massively overproduce goods at home to flood someone else's market and kill their buildings, without anyone else interfering by siphoning off your cheap goods. If your owned markets contain all the goods you'll need then there's no downside to going giga mercantilist like this. It's better than having +9999999% trade advantage and you can do it for free.

WHY CAN'T I MAKE SUBJECTS AS A JUNIOR PARTNERThis is bullshit, might be time to write this save off. I can't do anything
>>2289579Embargoing everyone IS maxing trade. It's just denying other countries' trade. Unless you're relying on other countries' imports and lack trade capacity, you want as little of other countries' trade going on in your markets as possible. Every trade serves to move prices away from profitability, so there's a limited capacity of goods that can be moved before the profit opportunity is gone, ergo you want your share to be 100% at all times and artificially limit the amount of trade to maximize profit too.Practical example: Play Russia, colonize urals, make ural market, buy gold from ural oblast for 1 ducat, sell in moscow for 16 ducat, buy manufactured goods in moscow for 1 ducat, sell for 16 in the ural market because you deleted all production buildings thereno AI can exploit the absurd prices because you banned them from your markets, so you make tons of money.Any colonial market can work like this (though you can't embargo subjects of course)You might think, doesn't trade advantage also protect markets? Trade advantage can help protect your Ural gold from getting exported, but it does nothing for imports. If you don't embargo then everyone starts dumping gold from Prague into Moscow for instance, cucking you out of profits. At the same time, you are free to dump your 0.01 ducat chinkshit on any market you want. Because you are the embargolord and they are pitiful embargolets.tldr Mercantilism is for big strong countries that own markets and have whatever they need within those markets. China, lategame empires, European imperialists etc. Free Trade is for tiny nations just trying to scrape ducats together, or jew countries that do all their trading in markets owned by others, with foreign buildings.
i sort of did this in polynesia in my first run except out of necessity because there is basically noone to trade with and the issue with trading with this is that eventually price normalizes between all your markets if you dont have demand ie sufficient consumption of all the crap you are producing
>>2289591>>2289592the issue with trading with yourself*
>leader is not allowed to lead armies>got all the martial traitsxd
>>2289592Yeah that's basically what it boils down to, demand is precious and the more shit that gets dumped on a market the more demand gets eaten up, so you want to prevent anyone from hocking their worthless garbage on your market so you can hock your own worthless garbage for decent prices.Maybe one day I'll try a china game where I try to flood everything with cheap goods and cause maximum unemployment in gweilo countries.

The AI, upon determining it might be interested in taking a piece of territory, should be given advanced knowledge of what the control level would level out at if it took that territory. It should then use that knowledge to determine whether taking that territory would actually be worthwhile, preferring territories that are immediately more valuable.Bam, suddenly it begins expanding coherently and in sensible directions. Anyone who has played any strategy vidya in the last 30 years knows you can't just throw the AI onto a map with some gentle nudging and hope things move in the right direction. You can make decent AI bots to fight against in FPS and shit but AI has been the eternal sticking point of strategy games to the point where giving them massive resource and APM cheats to enable them to compete with humans is almost expected. Anyone and everyone who has experience playing strategy vidya would know that you need to fucking bludgeon the AI with gamerules and guidelines to force them to not just fuck around mindlessly. In other words people whining that such measures are "railroading" are newfags who have no idea what the fuck they're even complaining about. They see the current state of affairs in EU5 and imagine to themselves that it's just a little quirk of AI behavior that can be fixed by fiddling with border antagonism or rivalries. The magic bullet that fixes AI without le railroading is just one more patch away guys!

If you are looking to fill just few locations, mostly urban then you don't need it as you would be doing that with mostly cabinet actions anyways. All provinces have some nobles, burghers and clergy that will then migrate and demote to fill any job. If you have locations that are pop capped and naturally looking to export pops then allowing laborers to move will make the whole process smoother and quicker and more hands off but you can do everything without that too.

>>2290558He was insisting he was not real and he was also promoting a russian '''scholar''' who promoted what was essentially the 'WE WUZ' but russian version
>>2290585Isn't it typically just upper and lower Burgundy like that one alternate history mod for EU4
>>2290587No, Upper Burgundy is specifically the northern area of the Kingdom of Burgundy that more-or-less corresponds to what's now generally known as Franche-Comté, or the County of Burgundy.Lower Burgundy is the southern part of the Kingdom.Burgundy the Duchy is separate from both of those.
>>2290210Yes but at the point where you have to spend like 2000g on a single building you're not really going to see a return on investment
>>2290588well, correction: Upper Burgundy is a bit bigger than Franche-Comté, but Franche-Comté itself is more-or-less exactly the County of Burgundy, which is the Comté (county) in question
>Principality of Kyiv>Looks inside>KIEUhhh Johan?

Doesn't the maximum population capacity in cities count towards the empty land modifier? So a city with 1 million citizens will birth an insane amount of pops if the max capacity is 10 million
>>2290594yes. building irrigation for example increases the empty land modifier as it raises the pop cap
What does happen if the Pope gets annexed and loses all territories?Does the papacy get disabled? Do they migrate somewhere else like in EU4?
>>2290597pretty sure the international organisation of catholicism would just have an unlanded pope like how the leaders of most other religions work
>>2287179They need a mechanic to represent how clans could take control of a city or something without necessarily being strong enough to provoke the bigger clan surrounding them. Maybe some sort of local influence mechanic that can grow but you might not want to suppress too harshly because it can cause a revolt or damages if you do.

>>2290601lucky bastard, I keep trying to do that as France but sadly vassaling the electorate doesn't guarantee it like eu4.
Vgh...Tunis/Turkey are recent gains so control hasn't ticked to the proper value yetI've managed to mitigate my crashes a fair bit by giving high priority to the game in the task manager
>>2290611VGHHHHHHH, but I was told it's impossible to blob and have fun
>>2290597He moves around a bitEnded up in Crimea in one of my gamesAlso him getting annexed broke the "give me money" aspect of the Teutons which was really annoying but manageable
>>2290611Why the fuck would you expand into Turkey when there's an entire North Africa the opposite side of the sea? You would have better control in Algeria and Tuniss than in Greece, let alone Anatolia.
>>2290617>>2290619retard
>>2290619Tunis & Morocco have unironically been stronger than the Ottomans for most of the game (and they've been permanently allied), also to a lesser extent because I can't be arsed disembarking troops
>>2290619Its full of north africans
>>2290619malaria
>>2290416I agree with the content part, but the fact of these games is that some states will be overpowered and easier to play. A competent player will be able to handle whatever artificial challenges, like a disaster, and get past them. You’re going to hit a point where the actual challenge is gone and you have to rely on your own interest and goals. If your end goal is just to blob as France and you blob as France and end up bored, then that’s just how the autism crumbles. This would happen even if the AI were as good as it could possibly be the AI can always be better, I’m not defending shit AI and I don’t play the game with unmodded AI . These games don’t require skill in any way no matter what you put into it because it’s managing spreadsheets with a map overview. The only way to make it truly hard is to 1) add arbitrary game mechanics to make it impossible to do anything or 2) place restrictions on yourself for a larp (restrict what you so as France or play a smaller country with a particular goal in mind). But even here, EU5 tried adding more mechanics to make it more complicated/“harder,” and, while good to some, most agree that it isn’t any harder once you know the mechanic exists. This goes back to these games being VGH simulators, not actual strategy games with high level thought put into what you do.

>There is an increased demand for felt hats in your market
>>2290577I guess to elaborate on the confusing mess that is "Burgundy" for our friends who haven't studied the early medieval history of the area too much:>Migration Period; Burgundians one of the Germanic tribes coming into Roman lands, originating in Bornholm (hence the out-of-place flavour text)>kingdom they establish gets eaten by the Franks, becomes one of their subkingdoms>cut ahead to 843: Charlemagne's empire split into three, with the Kingdom of the Burgundians being split between West and Middle Francia>West Francia (later France) refers to the lords they put in charge of guarding their share as "Dukes of the Burgundians" (later Dukes of Burgundy)>Middle Francia dies almost immediately, split into Italy, Lotharingia, and Provence; Provence receives southern share of Kingdom of the Burgundians, Lotharingia the northern share>Provence dies immediately, falls under Italy>Lotharingia also dies immediately, partitioned between West and East Francia>Carolingian succession shitshow sees local lords proclaimed Kingdom of Lower Burgundy/Provence in 879 and Kingdom of Upper Burgundy in 883>Lower Burgundy gets quickly brought back into union with Italy>cut to 933, Rudolph II of Upper Burgundy has claim to Italian throne>gives up claim in exchange for Lower Burgundy>kingdoms proclaimed as united Kingdom of Burgundy. also known as Arles after its capital; annexed into HRE almost exactly a century later and part of the imperial titulary to the very endso your options for the kingdom's name are:>Burgundy (confusion with the other tag)>Provence (confusion with the other tag, which can at least form it this time)>Arles (not actually particularly likely to be the capital)but removing it as a formable also doesn't make much sense since it did remain a very real (if nominal) title until 1806the county comes in because a local lord, named heir to the duchy, styled himself as Count of Burgundy, but then got denied his inheritance by the King of France
Large nations just need to have bigger internal issues to deal with. Right now there is literally nothing stopping you from using your superior strength and just blobbing, there is no chance of a pretender rebellion or a military coup, there is no war exhaustion so never any consequence for always being at war. Rebels in general are so piss weak and quickly become an annoying nuisance rather than an actual threat. Conquering other cultures and religions never results in rebels with any real chance of gaining independence.
