He is convinced the apartment he was born and abandoned in by his parents is his literal mother because he didn't understand the metaphor the cult was using so it using the demon summoning ritual on the apartment in an attempt to animate it as his mother. The main character was unfortunate enough to be living in the apartment at the time.
