Its not super greedy or scummy. There are discount sales at regular intervals. Access to files and ease of modding does wonder for a platform. There is something to be said about game devs too. FFS Bungie was working on Halo(around 30 devs IIRC) right after they moved out from behind a fucking crackhouse on the south side of Chicago. Halo CE went from an Mac RTS to an 3rd person shooter to a Windows FPS and still managed to be a great game. Halo 2's graphics engine wasn't compatible with the portion they had been working on for most of its development. So they had to remake the whole game from scratch in under a year, and they somehow fucking did it. They had to sleep in the office to get it done on time and around something like 90% of the game was completed in the last 6 months before release. And it was also a great game. If this was a game coming out today it would be a buggy unfinished nightmare. Apparently its hard to make a good game with million of dollars and access to modern technology. Its just so frustrating seeing what can be done even with a limimted scope and budget and what is actually being accomplished.
