>>38840713>>38840769>>38840784I've got a few basic reccs-(:}) E.T.A kids movie in the truest sense where characters talk over each other and kids actually act like kids. Spielberg might be a creepy jew but he made some of the best kids movies of the 80's, and most still hold up if you're looking for a comfy watch.-(:}) The Karate KidSame as E.T. an 80's classic as well as a good "coming of age" story. The main character here is a scrappy kind of kid. If you like martial arts cheese and the 80's it's still a decent watch.-(:}) Donnie Darko Very atmospheric. If you're gonna be anal about the logic of the movie, don't bother. Focus on the moody small town vibe, the 80's soundtrack, and the spooky schizo atmosphere.-(:}) The CrowIf you don't like edgy goth stuff or over the top comic writing this isn't for you. It's a super atmospheric movie with great sets and costumes. It's got the kind of heart you'd expect from a cheesy 80's movie despite being very emblematic of the 90's in every way.-(:}) Cowboy BebopSaw the movie in theaters earlier this year and it's even better than I remember it. If you like the show, the movie is just an episode but at a larger scale. The villain is one of the most compelling the show has to offer and the virus plot is eerily relevant today.-(:}) GremlinsTechnically a Christmas movie that I always watch around Halloween. The chaotic mischief of the gremlins is just too perfect for it. If Nightmare before Christmas is a Halloween movie in the spirit of Christmas, this is a Christmas movie in the spirit of Halloween.-(:}) Harry Potter 1-3Again, not all explicitly Halloween movies, but there are great spooky vibes in all three. 3 gets an honorable mention for featuring the holiday but in all honesty these movies lost much of their charm when Chris Colombus stopped directing. I think 2 is the best of the bunch, the dungeon exploration and Tom Riddle are highlights of the franchise for me.

>>38841468I'm stuck between either old timey or blacklight decorations. Old timey is comfy and nostalgic, but blacklight stuff is more fun(if a bit tacky), and seems somehow very fitting for Halloween. Maybe I could figure a way to do both. Keep the decor subtle enough to look old timey during the day, and then turning it up a notch when it gets dark. Two shower curtains might be pushing it though.

The soulless ai crap being posted reminds me how dangerous ai will be for humanity. Self ware ai turning evil, creative man made art not being made anymore because it less profitable, using ai to fake evidence to ruin people's lives, jobs being lost due to making AI do the jobs and society becoming dumber from over reliance on AI.

>>38848871>>38848880I always go there as soon as I can every year, and come back at the end to see if I can grab anything nice for cheap when they're liquidating, but it really has become something of a corporate nightmare in recent years. Sometimes it feels as if Disney owns 80% of their wares. The best stuff is still archetypical offerings like their cool series of vintage masks. Some of the branded stuff is really neat but it's in such an oppressive number compared to something that isn't from a movie. I do think it's cool how well they're repping Mars Attacks this year. It's a great Burton.

>>38849411this is a decent/x/ query that could be it's own thread. What it really comes down to is the old etymology of words and the original meanings of magic, such as how one would dis-SPELL rumors.Words are very much spells, just as you can invoke demons by speaking their true name or curse others. Halloween however is such a cum dumpster of various cultures and traditions, the word doesn't hold any power. Samhain however....
>>38849411>>38849429Words have a lot of power, and not just in the occult sense. Language controls not just how people speak, but how they think, and thus how they feel. You can manipulate people's emotions via words. This is a really deep subject, and outside the scope of this general anyway.
>>38849531Regardless, that question is basically a threat lol. Give me something good or receive something bad in return. Kind of fucked
>>38849502Elvira's the most well known horror hostess. TV channels would air horror movies at night and different channels would have horror themed hosts who would do segments between commercial breaks. There were a bunch of horror hosts over the years on different channels, but Elvira became the most well known due to her being a big titted gothy hottie, and being pretty sharp and funny. She became so famous that she got her own movie in 1988.Some of the movies she hosted have been released on DVD, so you could find her stuff that way, or just watch the movie if you want a pure Elvira experience.
>>38849502>>38849547https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zO3ecu5wQTw&t=55sI always think of Ketchup Vampires when I think of Elvira. I loved this goofy shit growing up and it's one of my earliest memories of her. She's got a great voice for narration.
>>38849502Elvira's only real gimmick is "Look at my boobs". She had girl on the internet syndrome before the internet existed. There's better hosts out there. She's also a ripoff of Vampira, who was better in every aspect IMHO. Elvis + Vampira = Elvira. I suggest Svengoolie, Dr Sarcofiguy or Joe Bob Briggs. Svengoolie has a lot of skits and songs, some better than others. Joe Bob is solid intelligent hillbilly schtick plus nice trivia. Dr Sarcofiguy is newer, but he's clever in a Douglas Addams way. So if the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series amuses you, give him a try. You can find most of these guys online for free. They WANT to be seen and passed around! Internet Archive, official youbube pages, and their websites are great starting points.
>>38849849>"They WANT to be seen and passed around!"Pretty lewd, if you ask me.

>>38847948Kek
The thing about Halloween that will be disbelived today, is that children were able to go out after dark, right up to a stranger's house, and ask for candy, and all the kids arrived back home safe.
>>38849849I've always want to do what they do but I feel like I missed the boat on becoming a Youtube version of them, and breaking into television is obviously quite difficult. I'd also really want people to be interested in actually watching the films, so they would really need to be watchable to begin with, since most potential viewers probably don't care about actual B-movies (or lower) anymore.
>>38849849A lot of these guys and MST3K are my go to. Some movies feel like they were made for them to make fun of>>38850006Anon. You need to chase that feeling. I want to secretly watch a ritual take place on Halloween.Would any of these rituals actually take place in the outdoors, or only in private? Might there be secluded ritual sites in forests or parks? When would it be more likely to take place: the night before Halloween, leading into the early morning hours of the 31st? Or on the night of the 31st ?Is there any reason other than perhaps being spotted that it would be unwise to seek out this kind of thing ?
>>38850597You ask a lot of questions for someone so retarded. Why not just find a local Wicca group? They're mostly hamplanet white women who love attention, I'm sure they'd love having you watch like a cuck instead of actually participating. The only danger there is that it'll be boring as fuck.

You may want to bring someone else along with you in the event of shit going down, along with something to protect yourself with (knife, gun, crucifix, etc.). >>38850006>>38850048>You need to do it if it makes you happyThat's an awful reason to pursue a long-term commitment. Good luck with your future divorces. You shouldn't really do any artistic work to be "happy", because that doesn't really mean anything outside of retrospection. If you envision a goal for the future it should be as concrete as possible. If you can't clearly picture what you want to do in your head, it's most likely an empty chase after something abstract and unachievable, like an artistic drug addiction. Don't get me wrong, that can be a way to live on it's own, and many artists have done that, but honestly, if you didn't have the motivation to give it a shot already? You probably don't have what it takes to stick it through if it doesn't go as planned. Personally, I'd just sit back and enjoy not having to see the other side of the entertainer-audience relationship. It's a lot nicer than you'd think to be an audience member. You probably don't realize how much pressure is put on entertainers since you haven't stepped into the spotlight and either gotten booed off stage, gassed up by sycophants, or worse yet, ignored entirely. Ultimately, those are your demons to wrestle with, and your decisions to make. I'd say "good luck", but you'll need more than good wishes to make it as an artist.
>>38851510>>38851523I was thinking pretty much the same. Maybe some chattering teeth? Voodoo dolls? Halloween CD's/Cassettes? Vampire teeth? Witch fingers? Temporary tattoos? Really anything fun in theme that could fit.
>>38851552This is appreciable perspective. Much of my reluctance is here. I have to say, though, being in the spotlight doesn't bother me, and I really thought it would. When I'm playing a character, I'm not me anymore, so it's not me they're perceiving or judging. I am merely a conduit for the material.
>>38851552>dont pursue what makes you happystopped taking you seriously there. Life is too short not to be blindly passionate for something and instead let people like you or self doubt stop someone. We'll never know how many things could've been created by artists who were all too scared/busy/poor to even try but it's something that could've made someone happy.
>>38845504
>>38851566>chattering teeth? Voodoo dolls? Halloween CD's/Cassettes? Vampire teeth? Witch fingers? Temporary tattoos?Literally any of that. Mix it up. I'm getting too into it again thinking about how cool it would be to somehow combine different types of surprises into some kind of scavenger hunt
>>38851709
>>38851568I get that. That's a good way of handling it, but keep in mind, that isn't always how others will perceive it. Many will see what you put out there as more you than you, and this relationship can get complicated quickly. I would understand someone being reclusive in that position, many people I respect handle fame that way. Also, keep in mind that these lines tend to blur the more used to it you get. When you first start you're quite consciously "acting", but if you get far enough into it, it won't feel like it anymore. That can be a very good thing as well, most great actors are practically crazy, but it's a gamble you should be aware you're making when you jump in. If you're the right type, you might just, like Poe, enjoy your madness more than sanity, and you certainly wouldn't be alone there.
>>38851576>>38851576Can you read? You misinterpret me entirely, only to manically espouse your load of horse shit as if it's some kind of philosophical treatise. I said that the goals you set shouldn't be as abstract as "happiness", but rather something more concrete. You can't make yourself "happy" in the way you imagine, because when one pictures a "happy" person, all that can be physically assessed is a person with a smile on their face. Anyone who recognizes the unconscious dread or clamoring desperation in much of stand-up comedy can tell you that smiling and laughing does not, by necessity, mean you're happy. You can't solidly define the concept in a way that makes literal, physical sense; beyond chemicals whirring around in you're brain, and that happiness could just as easily be bought in the form of addictive medication, if that's all you're really after. You're short sighted, for your perspective could be the cause of just as many people's resignation from the arts as it could be their reason for the opposite, and yet that eludes you. I'm nothing if not an obsessive, and this is the very reason I give this advice to creative people. If you are of like mind, you will need a more concrete goal to latch onto if and when your more abstract obsessions don't pan out. Which they won't. Happiness and fulfillment are not things to be achieved, but things to be sought after endlessly, only to really be understood in retrospect. I warn that this isn't a sustainable way to approach commitment, because it's not. You have to do *things*, not only imagine concepts, if you are to actually take action in any field. You clearly need this advice more than our friend here.
>>38851576You really got my goat, you know that? I got all wordy, SO needlessly verbose, and now you've got me straight up Jonkler-posting like it's 2008. I've had too much coffee to put up with your shit reading comprehension right now. For shame, Anon. FOR SHAME.
>>38852035Who hurt you?
Of course it was some edgy fucking teenage Joker posting faggot who thinks the Dark Knight was some paragon of cinema. God you're fucking dull
>>38852035>>38852062Why did you reply three times? Are you melting down?
what do you guys think about jumpscares and screamers?
>>38852188Jumpscares can be used effectively, but they're usually not.>quiet scene, character nervously looks behind shower curtain>VIOLIN SCREECH and a cat comes flying out>character looks into empty room>suddenly a hand on their shoulder>SCREECH>it's their friendThat shit infuriates me and it makes up like 98% of jumpscares.
>>38852071You did. I don't appreciate being treated like I'm some pessimistic asshole tearing down peoples dreams due to your obvious misinterpretation. I offered advice, I offered my opinion, and I left the door open for them to make their choices themselves. You took that and literally invented a quote that I never said to smear me because you misread what I even said. What else can I do but try to set you straight? Maddening.>>38852090Isn't that obvious?
>>38847604Dude how old and gay are you? You just place them in quiet parts of town with a little battery operated tea light then pick them up on November 2nd or 3rd. Or if you really want to be a pussy about it, ask homeowners on main streets if you can place a pumpkin outside their house. It’s not that big a fucking deal. If you can TP a house you can put an innocent pumpkin on a garden wall.
>>38849125Probably niggers and spics and multi-breed mutts to be honest. Soulless bunch in general, and usually too stupid to contribute much in the way of original content.
>>38852088You're just inventing someone to be mad at and putting me in that box because tEh JoNkleR is triggering you. I don't like any Christopher Nolan movies, and I'm *vewy sawwy* that you're allergic to pop culture, but the fact remains that the Joker's an iconic character that's useful in discussion. My reason for using the quote is that I think to "just do things" is a good way for artists to approach their work. I think it's better to imagine a concrete thing you want to do, and just do it, rather than imagining something abstract and unreachable. If more artists approached things this way, I think less people would get consumed in self doubt or give up on their work prematurely.
>>38849030>>38849068>>38849125>>38852456>A wild Dunning-Kruger support group appeared!>Thangs just wurse that they usta be is all...>Its them DAMN KEEIIIDS>Back in mah day, I tell you what...>Its prolly theyum half-wit jungle monkey niggers aga'in!Get off the rocking chair, step down from the porch, and go do some lawn work. That's all you're good for.
>>38852198I honestly don't think there is a wrong way to do a jumpscare. At least not on paper. My experience has been that the same kind of jump scare, in a different movie, can work or not. It all depends on the tone, the buildup, and the amount of them used throughout. That being said, most definitely do not work. I wouldn't rule anything out for being too simple though. A big problem is the overuse of the same KIND of jumpscare, which loses it's potency quickly once people are familiar with it. Their effectiveness doesn't last as long as well built tension and atmosphere. I think this is by and large why people are so annoyed with them. As you pointed out, fakeouts are used entirely too often, and not creatively enough. I think that lack of creativity in their usage is a genre film problem in general. Tropes become commonplace in these movies until people forget a time when they didn't exist, and so they end up treating them as obligatory, and therefore don't put much thought into them. A good proof of this is that jumpscares don't really work on a home sound system as well as in the theater, but horror movies still overuse them as if they are a part of the selling point, despite the fact that theater attendance is down. I even remember watching horror films in theaters and wishing that they would remove the jumpscares when they went to video because I thought they would just seem flat watching at home for a second time. Turns out that's true. Oh well.

I saw last night at Home Depot, the pumpkins were 2 for $16 I think. Could be $18, I remember. They’re on sale though. For decent sized pumpkins. Those and some lights, it’s maybe $30 dollars total to leave some out.
>>38854969*I don’t exactly remember. But I was surprised. They’re big and cheap

>>38855345Arguing about peoples false perceptions of what I've said is about half of what I've done in this very thread, and this is pretty low stakes shit at the end of the day. Can an artist ever thrive whilst taking such feedback from their audience? Not everyone has the time or energy to waste defending their public facing work, and doing so might just be a fruitless endeavor. I suppose, all in all, it's just another brick in the wall. The wall between artist and audience, between the individual and the greater world's perception of, and reception to, them. Oh wait, should I reference that album? Or am I going to be put on trial for Roger Waters slow descent into dementia as well? I mean, pink floyd is kinda overrated, dontcha' think? The Wall? More like, the dumb overrated british band for faggot poopy-dick fucks that I don't like. Wow, what a pseudointellectual queer I would have been if I made that reference. But - and this is just my retarded faggot opinion - there does exist a compromise between mutism and hysterics. Though, *finding* what necessitates a response, to maintain the aforementioned compromise, is just as difficult as formulating the response itself.>Can an artist ever thrive whilst taking such feedback from their audience? Not all feedback is the same; much is low-value, but the dialogue initiated by a constructive remark is often priceless. Not everyone wants to tear you down - sincerely.
>>38854888I wouldn't say he's the smartest. A wise man doesn't randomly target others with their pent up rage and frustration. They share their wisdom instead. Honestly, if horror host anon wants to give it a shot they should. It's literally just filming yourself in a costume for 30 minutes, cutting it into a public domain film then uploading it. Worst case scenario scenario? Something cringy nobody watches that he can laugh at later. But guess what? He did more with his time than the guy raging at others on the internet.
>>38856377Learn to filter. Ignore obvious trolls. Negative feedback is more common as the algorithm is a literal hate machine as hate and rage drive more engagement. That said, sometimes asshole has a point , so look for points if presented. "You suck" is useless. "Too slow, boring trash" could mean you need to sharpen your editing and/or timing.

>>38857288There's a big difference between smarts and wisdom. Wisdom is more about having good judgment than anything, and I fully admit I often fail in that department. I never meant to put across that horror host Anon should listen to my word as gospel, I was only offering my opinion, and I don't think I've put out that much rage toward people who didn't meet me with their own first. Clearly my initial reply was too filled with negativity for people to read into it that he shouldn't necessarily quit based on my personal take. My sentiments resonated with him on some level, but possibly for the wrong reasons.>>38851568I hope my ultimately useless argumentation with people in this thread serves as an example of what not to do for horror host Anon, if nothing else. Don't waste your time trying to explain yourself to people, unless you sincerely believe they have what's best for you in mind. Don't try too hard to be understood. Take feedback with a grain of salt, because if you don't? At best they bring you down to earth with their advice, but at worst they tie you down in a mire of personal doubts and insecurities.
>>38859734I won't let others steer me wrong, rest assured. I do appreciate it.
>>38857262>>38857320I appreciate these responses. I think I've gotten too used to playing verbal wack-a-mole with people for "fun", when it's not accomplishing much. It's more frustrating when people criticize me based on misinterpretations than when people are just straight up trolling. I can deal with that, for most part. But when it seems like the person's one reply away from understanding what I meant? Drives me mad.>>38859752That's good to hear.
