illusions let us see a different reality to some small extent by fucking with and crossing the fundamental wires in our brain temporarily. I why has no one tried using illusions to gain some kind of esoteric (even if material) knowledge. A way to consistently evoke a microcosmic version of the things you can see/feel with drugs or mediation.
The motion aftereffect illusion is an example of this.
With even some illusions (if you can call them that) letting you see new colors
