Red interests him in that regard. The only thing I think is missing is a real end goal aside from fulfilling his warped need for violence but what we know of him he's completely broken and self serving serving so alot of what he says ultimately just suits his needs like sacrificing his men but not himself. He's kind of a war monger but just for the sake of war.
Bumping a dead thread, but someone in the previous threads wondered about any symbolization to the window-pane motif. This is my first time reading this and here's my immediate thought. In my injun culture, someone looking at you through a window or opening is generally a sign of bad luck, or that you are soon going to be the recipient of bad news. Worse so if it's a bird looking at you through an opening, which was generally seen as a sign of impending death in the home. I don't think the author knows this and it's just for artistic means. Plus I am not a plains injun, but a east-woodland one.

>>268349052Yes. That's an Iroquois legend though, can't say if it's the same for the other east-woodland tribes. Despite being only a couple hours' drive from here, the stories I hear from the Algonquin, Cree, Ojibwe, Nishnaabe, etc. are so different.

I also like how the notion of getting a title was included in the 1st volume, how one had the courage of a bear. Now I guess we have the clan system to do this. I can't speak for the depiction of the Sioux and plains tribes in this case, but I can't imagine how wild some culture's history out west was with the gold rushes, cowboys, mexicans, etc., so I can't be too nitpicky. Still enjoyable though.
