Looked at the archives, saw nothing of the sort, might as well try it. Unfortunately, it turns out that there's only three scanlations available: a very old and bad one, a more recent one that's visually improved but only reaches 2 volumes, and a color scan that only reaches the first volume. Obviously I can just swap translations when we run out of them but I'd rather do things consistently. So while I prepare the first volume, I'll take a little time to let you guys pick between the short translation and the long translation.
I think there's no reason to use bad scans where better ones are available.
>>269122464The reason is that if I use the scans that are blatantly better, this is going to end really really fast because they're only 1-2 volumes in a series with 23. I don't like using this little but it's not like I can just grab a copy of the series released 20 years ago in English instead, because for once, it's one of those that weren't actually translated.
>>269122562I mean, isn't it still better to post 2 volumes of good scans and 21 volumes of bad scans than 23 volumes of bad scans?
>>269121570Really liked this manga back in the day. Between the detective storylines and the eccentric culprit designs it really felt like spiritually close to something like phoenix wright.
Well, I just know that I won't be happy with any of the translations enough to call them perfect, so screw it. We're doing this. Time to introduce the world's greatest detective and her perfectly normal assistant.
This page includes the single least realistic and canonical moment of the entire series. If you know, you know.
>>269121570Thank you OP, have a bump
Reason 1 why Matsui made this series: look at this guy. Just look at what he lets the artist do.
>>269123648I love when Neuro is nonchalant about horrible things sometimes.
Reason #2 why Matsui made this series.I don't really know if this is REALLY spoiler-worthy, but... ehh, might as well err in caution this time and you guys confirm to me later?
>>269123827There's nothing really spoiler-worthy in the series, you're good
>>269123746>says he doesn't want to attract attention to him>immediately pulls a Two Face stunt in a restaurant
Finally, something good
Aww, he's been a fan of her all along! How nice of him!
Good luck OP, I remember really enjoying this series back in the day.
I still remember how that fan opening with Ali Project was my first contact with this series. Thanks OP
>>269124051The mangaka did a good job at drawing all the deranged faces of Neuro
He must be a hit with the ladies.
Reason #3 why Matsui made this series: the 777 Demon World Tools/Abilities. As long as it's got a fitting Evil name and is meant to do SOMETHING, he can make whatever he wants.
This looks amazing.
>>269124459Rare quizzical Sasazuka
>>269124549That was before the author decided to actually give him the lowest blood pressure possible to contrast the highest blood pressure of the series.
Oh my god, thank you so much OP. I'm reading/watching Matsui's latest thing, and the creepy expressions from the pedo-priest and the bug-eyed reactions from Tokiyuki reminded me so strongly of Neuro and Yako that it had me feeling nostalgic. Still one of my favorite series to this day. EN release FUCKING NEVER.>>269124537>>269124136I remember thinking that the art in this series looked incredibly rough compared to his later work, and that's kind of true, but, damn, a lot of the more surreal imagery still holds up so well.
And here we have the start of another quirk that the culprits will share over the course of the series.
>>269123681What's wonderful about Neuro is that he had absolutely no fucking reason to do this other than to show off and freak out a high school girl.
>>269125008Replace 'this' with literally anything and we have the point of the series.
And I say the above in the most positive light possible.
>>269125098CHOMP
>>269125247>fuck your sob stories, I'm off to vore someone else
>>269125288kek
And we're done with chapter 1!Normally these seem to be going volume by volume but I don't know, while this is not going to be a massive hit in comparison to the big series, this is a long series and a daily thread might be worth it.Either way, I need to take a break for now, but will be back later to continue.
>>269125390Thanks, OP! Feels good to read this series again
>>269121570Wish i knew how to photoshop and put the old translations into the higher quality pages. SJ+ has so many old manga with much better scans
>>269125390Thank you for the thread, OP. This was such a throwback.
>>269125390...I remember hearing somewhere that Neuro and Yako actually share a birthday, but now I'm starting to wonder if that was a headcanon that gained too much traction, lol.
>>269124005Not even one chapter in and she's already deepthroating him.>>269124092>bring it onWhat a slut.
>>269121570I love Neuro, thank you
Consider that this ran in Shonen Jump in 2005, at the time currently running Naruto, Bleach, Eyeshield 21, Gintama, Death Note, and Hitman Reborn. Compared to those, how does this first chapter feel? Would you keep up with it or would it be too different from most of the magazine?
>>269125505How much of a faggot does it make me if I admit I used to and still do ship these two hardcore. Because I don't think I've ever seen that word used here, but this thread is making it all come back to me.
>>269125390Thanks. I wanted to read this for a while this is a good excuse.
>>269125620I would keep up with it and worry it'd be axed because that's really stiff competition
>>269125462The old translations are pretty bad in places though. At least in the first few volumes, but they do get better later on.
>>269125620>Would you keep up with itYes.>would it be too different from most of the magazine? It's the OG matsui style but it's still a shounen at heart. It fits right in with everything else
>>269125620I mean, I can speak as someone who got into it while it was still running; I initially picked it up *because* it was so different. I remember stumbling upon an episode of the anime (back when people just uploaded that shit on YouTube), and the imagery was so surreal and the premise so strange that it kind of had me hooked. It might've been that I just wanted to watch whatever "weird" anime I could find back then, but it definitely helped that I was really into mystery/detective series. And this one has a place in my heart in a way that all those other series don't.
>>269121570https://youtu.be/WzmCvb6PB4UHe was pretty cool in JUS
>>269125987JUS was my gateway drug into manga and Neuro was one of the first series I tried because the MC looked really cool.
>>269125987Playing this was my introduction to Neuro, just had to find out what this weird shit was from. And now I own the entire series.
>>269122562I read the super shitscans of the first several volumes of Kinnikuman. This is nothing in comparison.
>>269125641Super rare Neuro artwork. Not for the faint of heart
>>269126239The manga ended with their battle just getting started so it's not that scandalous.
>>269126216I hope you didn't mean these scans in particular, because they're the good ones.
>>269126270Not that guy, but Kinnikuman is a different manga, so he's talking about the poor quality of the original Neuro scans not being that bad.
>>269126270I meant the the old scans where the typesetters were allergic to punctuation marks and sometimes you'd see the black edge of the page where they folded it before they scanned it. They were still better than Kinnikuman's.
>>269123365I am nostalgic for Matsui's noodle legs
>>269126239Legendary art, the true canon epilogue end in my eyes. Don't talk to me about it being a wedding present Matsui made for someone I can't hear you.
>>269123870I'm assuming only Yako can see that
>>269125620I would have kept up if nothing more than for the weird visuals, and admittedly, the Yako abuse.
>>269125620I would've picked it up but I'm not sure if I would've stuck with it initially. I only gave it a second chance because I really loved AssClass and I'm glad I did.
>>269124415>literally throws her at peopleIn hindsight Yako was a fucking tank
>>269127052That throw would have vaporized Tien btw
>>269124537Neuro pointing with his middle finger really ties that panel together
>>269127143Matsui's characters are just built differently
>>269125390Thanks OP.Doing just a few chapters a day could be a good middle ground.
When I'm done with this, would anyone be interested in an Mx0 storytime, or another series from that time period?
>>269127404>Mx0It only intrigues me because it supposedly has an MC that tries to trick superpowered people into thinking he has powers and it has fans who are still assblasted over the ending.

>>269126461Don't know if there was anything else to it but just found this page in my Neuro folder. Very in-character too.
Sweet a Neuro thread. I loved the manga during its initial run, so much so that I helped provide raws for some of the later chapters all those years ago. I would love an actual English release, but good luck even with the popularity of Ass Class.
>>269128769As an AssClass newfag, I respect your efforts
>>269128769AssClass' popularity was weird. It seemed really popular and not that popular at the same time.
>>269129147>#2 in toc behind one piece>3 one shots for epilogue>avgerage'd around 600k per volumeIt was VERY popular
>>269129147In Japan it was very popularHere, not so much until there was enough interest for a different scan group to pick the manga up, just in time for THAT moment to happen. Then as it neared the end/S2 neared its end it got more notableNowadays it's looked at as a casual favorite (which is fine)
>>269127404Eyeshield 21
Neuro fucking rocks. Terrible "mystery" but everything else about it is incredible and they just the mystery aspect for action anyway.
>>269129447I read an interview where Matsui said that he doesn't give a shit about mystery solving and finds the motives of the culprit more fascinating. It really shows in Neuro well because he always speedruns through the crimes so he can draw the murderers as demented freaks from hell.
>>269123910Garmonbozia [pain and suffering]
Back. Since we're dealing with hundreds of chapters and I admit I don't want to deal with doing this one for too long past a month, sure, we're expediting things now. Time for chapter 2!

>>269125390Thx for the dump
They really dealt with this case by chapter 2/3? What the hell was the anime thinking lol
>>269130430Yako could’ve solo’d him
>>269131444I never watched the anime, though I heard it wasn't a great adaptation. What happened?
>>269131504They made this case the main plot of the second half and did a bunch of anime original BS to it

>>269131739Ugh, it posted faster than planned. But yeah. Do you guys want some time to discuss the current chapter or skip to chapter 3?
>>269131770I'm fine with skipping to chapter 3, might as well
>>269131770Keep posting. People will comment at their own pace.

If Neuro were released this year, would it be a hit, exist, or a U19?
Chapter 3 over! [And so will be the uploads for now; will continue tomorrow.]What do you guys think of the mystery? Was it a good idea to set this specific one so soon, or would it have been a good idea to leave it to be solved later? It's not like there couldn't have been excuses or more valid reasons for Neuro to take his time on this one.
>>269132601>amelioratedThat's not a word you see too often
>>269132746The surreal art and Yako bullying could carry it for a while until the first major story line began. It would probably average around 10 in the weekly rankings.
>>269129447It was never a detective manga like Conan or Kindaichi. I respect Matsui for doing a detective manga that feels different.
Gotta remember that it would likely also be set in 2024 or so,meaning that Matsui would get to use newer technology in many ways and probably have even more excuses for wacky stuff, especially for later arcs.
>>269132881I can't tell if that would make the HAL Arc more or less relevant
>>269132746Exist. Samon proved that there's a market for demon guys bullying cute girls.
>>269132750>What do you guys think of the mystery? Was it a good idea to set this specific one so soon, or would it have been a good idea to leave it to be solved later?I actually liked that it was solved so soon because this is usually the type of thing that would be set as an overarching plotline throughout the seriesIt shows that Neuro himself is kind of the "skip" button of the series here
>>269132750Thank you for posting.
>>269131013>Sasazuka and Takeda twig legsI get that he's going for perspective here but they're too top heavy
Go up.
When I first read this I thought Neuro's abuse was just unnerving, but now I realize he's basically a shoujo love interest.
>>269123162Matsui used to get a lot of flack for being a "bad" artist but I like how strong and ambitious his compositions have always been
Wow, this Yako girl is an incredible detective! No wonder that assistant of hers respects her so much.
>>269131770Holy shit anon just dump the chapters, is this your first dump thread ever? For fuck's sake.
>>269125987Fuck this game is really greatI found out about neuro, gintama and many other manga because of thisThe chaotic and demonic imagery is what make me really like neuro more than other matsui manga, his stiff anatomy and rough art only make it better for me
>>269136659He unironically considered making Neuro a romance manga
>>269131444>>269131504>>269131569Anime is almost entirely anime original with really trashy cases where they just stand around in one place for no reason. Who knows what the fuck were they thinking. The final arc being set in South America is complete nonsense. Animation is piss poor too. Anime is bad in almost every regard, it's almost like a hit against the series.
>>269136659>>269141711Yeah, Matsui considered to turn it into reverse harem romcom with many more demons entering the fray, but decided that Neuro alone has strong enough character.>>269132881>>269133242There's a chapter about generative AI in Elusive Samurai.

>>269143548That's probably what Neuro likes about humanity second to their ability to do evil [which is the whole point of his mysteries]. Even though humans are certainly awful people, there's a degree of 'screw you' that strong people have and display even in the face of danger. Not ironically, he tends to bully those the most.
