You have lots of readings. Moritaka gets
Saiko that could be:
> Saik(y)o which could mean the "Best" or "Champion"
> Saiko as in "Psycho"
the one that Takagi gets it's clearly explained on the page.

>>272586332
Whenever I see the sketches from the writers of a writer-artist duo, I always want to see a version of the manga in that artstyle.
>>
>>272586332
Thanks for posting OP. I really love the moment between Saiko and his Dad/Grandpa, and how animated Bakugon feels in comparison to Death Note. I hope these threads get interaction. Shujin is based and redpilled, Azuya is very cute.
>do you have any goals
My friend wants to write a manga/comic with me. Currently trying to think of a story with an interesting plot that matches his artsyle.
>>
>>272585072
Thank you, OP. It's been a long while since I've read it, and I have a lot of thoughts on the series. Blogpost incoming.
>>272585694
Yeah, Saiko does tend not to think much of other people.
I really like Bakuman as a whole and especially the characters... But Saiko is the odd one out. He's got no major quirks and feels like an observer vast majority of time. Over time, even his internal monologue loses what little character it used to have. He only gets fired up when it comes to Miho and manga... sometimes. Eventually.
In fact, once comedy and gags become a larger part of the manga, Saiko is still the one who gets the least amount of jokes at his expense. And whenever he does, it's almost always as a part of Ashirogi Muto. Very jarring in retrospect, since Takagi and Miyoshi get to be called out on acting foolish all the time.
Obciously I'm not counting Azuki, since she's more of a plot convenience than a character.
>>
>>272585841
>>272585797
Was that really how the 00's was like for Japanese teenagers? Sounds like a sentiment from the Showa period.
>>
>>272591616
You do know this is just the opinion of one fictional character which the author wanted to emphasize that he thinks too much about stuff, right?
>>
>>272591799
>that happens to match the author's own insane misogyny on display in everything they write
Sure anon, I'll believe Ohba can be self-aware after fucking Platinum End.
>>
>>272592296
>that happens to [headcanon]
Nothing in Bakuman or Deathnote shows misogyny, other than people complaining that in a fucking shonen manga there are not more female main characters.
I haven't read Platinum End, thus I can't comment on that. But if the arguments are the same as people say for Bakuman, I won't take your word for it
The two protagonist from bakuman get constantly called out for their wrong perception about women. Character are allowed to have flaws, you know that, right?
>>
>>272586332
Thanks OP.
>Do you have goals anon?
My short term goal is to read this daily again tomorrow desu
>>
>>272585841
Takagi sounds ridiculous but it's worth remembering that these are two smartass teenagers who act like they have the world figured out and end up getting humbled constantly later. Still the thought lingers that Ohba either can't write women or simply doesn't care. Not that a writer is obligated to write complex female characters or romance if those aren't the focus but it does become a sticking point if someone keeps including them and fumbling. I wonder if this is something Ohba consciously worked on improving in Bakuman since characters like Azuki and Iwase get more development throughout like with Iwase becoming a manga writer rival to Takagi and Azuki dealing with the gravure offer, idol purity scandal, and va competition stuff. Some clumsy handling there too but at least it's a step up from "a woman must fly under the radar to be cute" and maybe ultimately the goals of this manga lie somewhere else.
>>
>>272593090
There is a difference between
>a woman must fly under the radar to be cute
and
>a woman shouldn't be an arrogant bitch like Iwase

Also since it has the artist though a different writer, one should look at Hikaru No Go for example. Because that manga has also been criticized for having shit female characters and the main protagonist being a misogynist(even though the co-protagonist tells him off immediately afterwards). Why I bring this up? The author is a woman

Point being, "The author simply hates women or looks down on them" is quite the accusation one shouldn't take lightly. Give people the benefit of the doubt and assume you have misunderstood something instead of thinking the worst of another person.

What a tough question. At the moment i would say Jojo (All parts) or Tetsugaku Letra or Blue Period.

Hard question, especially because many good manga fuck up the ending, and it's hard to compare finished series anyways.
Ongoing is easy to measure, whatever you look forward to the most every week/month.

Houseki no Kuni (Read 3 times)
Steel Ball Run (Read 5 times)

Hellboy's author has that approach too, first he draws the mute chapter and only at the end he thinks about the dialogues

nta, but without Celebi, the story would be really good for being what it is. I get that the ending can ruin it, and I do agree, but you know.

>>
>>272608380
not just the studio, they get lucky in life a LOT
Saiko grew up studying under a mangaka, and while the mangaka wasn't a good artist he still learned a lot of technical stuff. Plus he was born with an innate talent in drawing, where even stopping for a years he was already pro level at 15.
Shujin might have shit parents, but by just being pressured he was able to become the best student in his school where everyone hailed him as a genius and he was able to remain a good student despite working constantly on manga.

Both of them also had hot girls lusting after them without even trying, meaning they didn't had to worry about that either.
"Gamble manga" my ass, they got everything handed to them and only had to worry about WHEN they will get serialized, not if
>>
>>272610947
you got that slightly wrong, it was
The last chapter of PCP
The first chapter of PCP-Middleschool(like Naruto Shipuuden)
The first chapter of Reversi
>>
>>272616542
Some artists really liked it because it allowed them more freedom, some disliked it. The big problem a lot of artists had with it was that they weren't compensated properly since the artist did the heavy lifting but not getting any writing credits or paid for it. ComicTropes on youtube did a video on it with examples and such, i would recommend it.
>>
>>272609193
>What's your favorite manga?
I really liked Morris the horned cat.
>>
>>272622234
Sure Saiko had talent but he did draw/practice all the time so i wouldn't call that luck. Takagi is smart but just this chapter he said that he did research so his knowledge isn't from nowhere. They will obviously practice and work much, MUCH more so they aren't just handed the reward. I agree that they would eventually get serialized but that's the thing, to reach their goals, the time limit they set for themselves is just as important.
>>
>>272608782
I just realized Saiko is doing the final Joe pose.
>>
>>272624268
Haha it really is.
>>
>>272608511
>they left the page he was partway through drawing in the exact same spot after he died
Haunting...
>>
>>272609558
Apparently, the original author of Wonder Woman would give his artists ridiculously specific instructions for how to draw the bondage she'd end up in.
I'm not sure if artists would prefer or be annoyed by such an autistically detailed amount of instruction from the writer.
>>
>>272609598
Read any josei ever.
Women are fucked up.
>>
>>272608892
>>272609417
I don't really like calling Oda a one hit wonder despite how objectively true it is because it comes with the connotation of the wonder's success being a fluke and him being unable to recreate it.
But Oda started One Piece at 22 and he'll likely be nearly 60 by the time he finishes. And every single one of his one-shots were just prototype One Pieces. He's a one hit wonder because he only ever tried to make one thing in his entire life and he succeeded. I don't think he'll have any interest in making another manga once One Piece is done.
>>
>>272585072
I have many fond memories of this manga, undiluted kino. Thanks anon.
>>
>>272624159
>Sure Saiko had talent but he did draw/practice all the time
so does everyone else, both in reallife and in this very manga. Same with the dog femboy who is so talented, despite never learning proper mangaka art, he still outclassed the other two who spend years trying to become actual mangaka
>the time limit they set for themselves is just as important.
shows how privileged they are, that they can allow themselves to set a time line as crazy as "anime by 18 years old" even if it didn't work out.
>>
>>272625082
>I don't think he'll have any interest in making another manga once One Piece is done.
he once did say he wanted to do a sci-fi story after one piece, but that was over 20 years ago. He probably included all the stories he wanted to do all into One Piece, so he can leave the industry with a successful franchise and no unfinished business left
>>
>>272625297
I do agree they are "handed a lot of things" but not everything. They do have to push through many obstacles and they do sacrifice things during their career.
>>
>>272625442
I never said they got everything handed to them, I said a LOT, especially compared to everyone else both in reallife and in the manga.
To avoid spoilers, let's just take his uncle for example. He also worked himself to literally death, and yet he was just a one-hit wonder. He had to pay his own studio, he had to learn everything himself, he had to somehow be able to draw a commercial product with no talent in art and only somewhat good sense in comedy.
All I wanted to point out that the two protagonist were never gambling as they anticipated they would have to do, they simply had to be patient as they already won the lottery before the series begun.
>>
>>272609193
Thank you OP.
That's a good start. They have all the material needed to fulfill their dreams.
We're going to see if they have the necessary talent.
>What's your favorite manga?
I don't really have one but my greatest reads were the first manga I read when I was a teen. Namely Tokyo Ghoul, Death Note, Doctor Slump, Dragon Ball and lesser known manga like Eden no Ori...
>>
>>272625523
Oh yeah i do agree with that.
>>
>>272622234
Serialization was never the end goal. It's making something popular enough for an anime.
You can see this with all the axebait. Yeah, they got into the magazine. And what do they really have to show for it?

to get into Shounen Jump. When you think of Jump you're not going to immediately think about sex or rape, or anything involving things girls like or go through. You'll probably see more lowbrow stuff like gag manga and Punchy Punchy series (and sports, but that's on again off again)

Which chapter has the incel rant from Takagi?
>>

Boy wait until Haikyuu and Kuroko come out. Plus are they forgetting Slam Dunk came out and became Jump's big ticket series? Maybe sports wasn't as prominent because everyone was too afraid of living up to being "the next slam dunk"

>>272585841
Unfathomably based
>>
>>272608892
>what's the best manga drawn by a non-genius?
You literally just said DBZ was your favorite.
>>
>>272609116
So your father is a loser.
>>
>>272634699
Yes you can
Author of Crow, which is based on popular manga like One Piece and Naruto, has become a millionaire(as in dollars, not yen) in just a few years of serialization

In shonen jump, if you make it big, you make it REALLY big, but if you don't, you're lucky if you can pay rent
It's a high risk high reward magazine
>>
>>272634798
Toriyama is a genius, a lazy one at that.
The best manga drawn by a non-genius will either be Kinnikuman or Hokuto no Ken (both with an artist/writer duo).
>>
>>272634939
Plagueofgripes said that Toriyama was a moron whose expertise was in comedy.
>>
>>272635045
literally who
>>
>>272635100
The guy who said the Cell Saga sucked.
>>
>>272630505
But that was slam dunk. It was quite literally the only reason anyone read jump before dragon ball came along in the drought after it ended
>>
>>272635157
????
Dragon Ball came out in 1984 and ended in 1995.
Slam Dunk came out in 1990 and ended in 1996.
>>
>>272630505
>WSJslop
You tell me what manga exists that's superior to Dragonball Z.
>>
>>272635224
How the hell did I get that jumbled in my head
>>
>>272635275
The manga is called Dragon Ball. Only the anime covering the second half of the manga goes by Dragon Ball Z.
You don't call the manga Naruto, Naruto: Shippuden.
>>
>>272635145
I'm sure lots of people have said that, anon.
>>
>>272635463
Dragonball Z is a special case. You know that, and you know why that is.
>>
>>272622234
>all this complaining
Anon there are literally children of billionaires, Presidents and Hollywood actors that get everything handed to them on a silver platter and yet are unable to come even close to their parents’ success. There are countless examples IRL.
Sure the duo had some luck , but we have other characters in this manga that do it the hard way to achieve success.
>>
I didn't like the second half of the manga, some characters just became too unlikeable and started getting repetitive.
>>
>>272593090
Nah the author isn't that self aware, usually when characters go on these long tirades they are just the mouthpiece of the writer. If someone either next panel or next chapter started contradicting him I would buy it but this is supposed to be 100% straight.

Ohba 100% hates women, just accept it and move on.
>>
>>272585072
Isn't Bakuman one of those rare cases where the anime is one the same level or even better than the manga?
>>
>>272635834
Only the first 2 seasons.
Season 3 rushed like half the manga.
>>
>>272635797
But I also hate women and believe they should be exterminated and replaced with synthetic wombs.
>>
>>272635638
I was just correcting, not complaining.
The original comment said they had a headstart with the studio, even though it was far more than "just" a studio
The characters in the story are saying they are gambling, even though they have won the gamble before they even started.
All the text I wrote was just the explanation for why I say this, to give context to my corrections.
>>
>>272635797
>If someone either next panel or next chapter started contradicting him I would buy it but this is supposed to be 100% straight.
which happens constantly in this manga? You know this whole "There are dreams men have women can't understand" bit that is constantly being quoted from this manga to prove how misogynistic it is? A few chapters later a woman calls the protagonist off and says she does understand those dreams.
>>
>>272635834
not even close
It's "fine" for an anime, as there is no need for big movements and it's mostly just talking, but it's still a very cheaply made anime.
>>
>>272635045
And yet, what he made is still the most important series worldwide, while barely putting in effort.
Not because of the comedy, either.
>>
>>272635045
Toriyama isn't dumb he just doesn't give a shit, his paneling and movement is god like, he probably gives it a lot of thought while drawing.

Air Gear author is a total idiot, you can 100% make a successful manga while being brain dead.
>>
>>272635834
I'd say that, in a story where 90% of the time they're talking on a chair, the manga-book format is better than anime
>>
>>272636083
Women can't understand men. If they could, there wouldn't be women in the workplace.
>>
>>272636379
Oh Great! might not be the brightest writer, but his art is on another level. I would say his artistic skill puts him on the genius level.
>>
>>272634939
>Kinnikuman
I don't want to downplay its importance in jump history but this might be the answer. It might have been the very first gag -> battle manga switch (or at least an early one) but it feels more like a lucky break than a calculated detour from the humour oriented start.
>>
>>272636985
>non sequitur
what did he mean by this
>>
>>272585072
Op, are you the guy that dumped Death Note?
>>
>>272637967
No I'm not, but the Death Note daily did inspire me to storytime this
>>
Speaking of which, I'm back from work, so let's get started

Chapter 4: Parent and Child
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnFgsQUqugI
>>
Look at these two
>>
>>
>>272639893
>I have no intention of creating gag manga.
Heh
>>
Devastating
>>
>>
>>
>>272639953
These early chapters really did revolve a lot around the relationship stuff. I wonder if it becoming more of a shonen battle manga(with manga) was always the intention, something that happened naturally, or they changed their plans because of reader feedback?
>>
What a tweest!
>>
>>272640157
I don't remember much from last time I read, but I think it would be a natural progression towards "battle" manga
>>
>>
>>
Obligatory self reference of course
>>
>>272640222
that is what one would assume, but based on what this manga is telling in a later chapter, it supposedly happens a lot that a manga changes genre when it lowers in the rankings
>>
>>272640222
There's some kind of DNA joke about souls that goes here.
>>
>>
>>272640324
>Gevanni
Are you going to plagiarize an entire manga overnight?
>>
42-year-olds look so young these days!
>>
>>
>>272640419
>No wife of mine will curl her hair like that!
Thanks Mashiro, I agree.
>>
>>
>>272640469
I'm sorry anon, you might have bad taste, just like Mashiro
>>
>>272640469
>neither you nor mashiro want ojou ringlets
For shame
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>272640537
I simply don't think they're a good fit for them in particular.
>>
>>
>>
And that's it for today, hope you have a nice day

Did you exchange letters/texted/talked with your crush?
I did
>>
>>272640880
>Did you exchange letters/texted/talked with your crush?
2D technology wasn't there yet.
>>
>>272640757
>>272640796
>>272640839
Well, even our main duo acknowledge that they are in fact blessed. Now they only have to capitalize on this!
>>272640880
Thank you OP!
>Did you exchange letters/texted/talked with your crush?
Lol no. I'm still chickenshit.
>>
>>272641003
I believe in you anon!
>>
>>272640880
ey OP thank you, this is a long series and daily chapters will take half year to complete, so best wishes, hope you could make a habit of it.
>Question
i recived a letter once but i was scared i guess, so i didn't reply
>>
>>272641016
Thank you!
>>272641216
>>
>>272640619
I really like how he uses the tones here for Mashiro's hair. I think that only Sinohara does something similar currently with Witch Watch.
>>
>>272640880
Cellphones were just starting to become a thing when I was a teenager, and since that time I only had one girlfriend for like 2 months. We didn't text, but we did call each other a few times. She was a golddigger and I broke up with her. Come 20 years later and I'm still a virgin.
>>
>>272640685
>Takagi gets his comeuppance because he shit-talked smart girls
I hope the anon that was complaining about it doesn't miss this page.
>>
>>272640880
>Did you exchange letters/texted/talked with your crush?
Yeah to all of them, however the exchange letter was something that was forced on us during elementary school.
>>
>>272640721
mom is a cute
>>
>>272640222
Monarchist.
>>
>>272640324
Man I didn't even remember how often the mangaka self-reference.
Also LOL that they're referencing a support character whose main purpose was to take up chapter count by stalking Mikami for way too long and treating that like a positive memory.
>>
>>272640419
What was the reason Misha in Cripplefuck had drill hair? Was it like that in Raita's reference material?
>>
>>272643428
>Also LOL that they're referencing a support character whose main purpose was to take up chapter count by stalking Mikami for way too long and treating that like a positive memory.
Sometimes you get attached to characters that bail you out when you really need it.
I think that's the reason why Toriyama was so fond of Freezer and Majin Buu.
>>
>>272640462
>coughed up evidence
You're not writing a thriller anymore, Ohba. Calm down.
>>
>>272640486
But she's not blushing.
>>
>>272640619
More like "Romanticizing Abuse Man".
There's nothing sweet or gushy about wage slaving for an ideal you've pushed out of your grasp. You're just taking stoic samurai machismo and claiming it's love.
>>
>>272640880
I really like ohba's doodly art
>>
>>272642137
That's not comeuppance. That's Mrs. Azuki saying smart-alecks like Takagi aren't her type.
>>
>>272640757
You're using "romantic" in the wrong context. You're using the term in the "adventurous spirit" sense while talking about pursuing courtship with a woman.
>>
>>272643482
What's Frieza got to do with this? I at least understand Buu as being characterized in a way that lets him go in any direction Toriyama wants, at least until he becomes Super Buu.
>>
>>272644426
Some guy was saying that the author was using Takagi as his own voice to call smart girls undesirable, the same applies now that he used Azuki's mom to call smart boys undesirable too.
>>272644570
Toriyama wanted to finish Dragon Ball with Namek but the Editor didn't want to kill the Golden Cow so soon, so he convinced Toriyama to keep stretching the fight and Toriyama decided that Frieza will have several forms to keep the fight going. Supposedly, he was only going to have the 1st and Final form so he managed to squeeze the other 2 out of him.
Also, he used Frieza surviving to hype up Trunks and his cells (heh) to hype up Cell.
>>
OP HERE WE'RE GETTING ANOTHER CHAPTER RIGHT NOW (I'll be super busy tomorrow) let's go
Chapter 5: Time and key
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rK8Xr7wyRIg&list=RDrK8Xr7wyRIg&start_radio=1
>>
>>
>>
>>
I wonder how much input Obata had in the story
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
That's so stupid
>>
>>272646450
They're both right.
Modern Jump will accept literal scribbles after all.
>>
>>
>>272646349
Let's GO!
>>
haha yea
>>
>>
>>
>>272646717
It is stupid, but I've always found their relationship weirdly endearing.
>>
>>
>>
Who might this mysterious Nizuma be?
>>
And that's a wrap, no chapter tomorrow, so see you all on Friday, probably later than earlier

What's one qualification on being a man?
Don't say having a dick
>>
>>272647036
Thank you OP!
>What's one qualification on being a man?
Trying to achieve your goals no matter what. And also having a dick.
>>
>>272646946
Man, all the faces on this page are golden. Saiko squinting and Takagi being all smug just looks really funny
>>
>>272646997
>ODA ENTEEEERS
I didn't remember it was so early.
>>
>>272647036
>What's one qualification on being a man?
Living in a way you can be proud of. And also having a dick.
>>
>>272588834
You're just a smooth brain
>>
>>272647036
>What's one qualification on being a man?
Keeping your inner fire of enjoyment eternally burning whether a task is easy, hard, mundane or rare.
>>
>>272646997
>ten thousand nip dollars for coming 2nd place in a oneshot contest
>>
>>272647466
Japanese is not a human language. Anything that relies on so much vaguery should be rounded up and shot.
>>
>>272585072
>>
>>272647036
Thank you for posting.
>>
>>272646857
It's so sweet that it's almost insufferable, but i like it as well. It also helps that Shujin does tease Saiko about it.
>>
>>272652695
not just teasing
both him and his girlfriend constantly berate him and Azuki for being stubborn and weirdos for taking the promise that far, it's considered a flaw at that point, not being romantic
>>
>>272650199
I agree, anon.
>>
>>272654434
True. I like the group dynamic they have. It also feels nice when a character gets called out for their stupidity.
>>
>>272640169
Azuki is the spitting image of mommy at the same age. Color me surprised. I like the braided megane.
>>272640419
Look at this mommy here...
>>
>>272640169
What a twist. What a motivation buff.
Not only MC will have to draw the manga his uncle couldn't but he'll also have to conquer the bloodline his uncle couldn't.
