Alright, it is Saturday and I am gonna post the twenty-eighth volume of Inuyasha. Feel free to react or comment on any panel, though I appreciate if image replies are not used during the dump. Feel free to discuss anything Inuyasha related after the dump.

Previous thread: >>274748952

Despite the OP image, I am using the VizBig 3-in-1 localization which does not feature this cover exactly. Be aware that some of the larger images have been edited to be lower quality due to image size limits.
>>
Here's the inner illustration for Volume 27 in the 3-in-1. Kagome...

Also, I meant the 29th Volume. Sorry, guys.
>>
Original title is 妖気の渦 which my machine translation translated as 'Vortex of Demons' or 'Vortex of Bewitching Energy'.

September 4th, 2002. Author's note:
"Q: What is your favorite special move or attack?
A: Was it "High jump, Shrimp Throw, and Split Balls!" I remember those."
Furinkan's note: "These are all baseball pitches from the series Samurai Giants by Ikki Kajiwari and Ko Inoue. It ran in Shonen Jump from 1971 to 1974."

I wonder if there's a single person in this thread who has read that series.
>>
>>274849240
Last volume ended mid-Scar of the Wind. Naraku mentioned it'll end up tearing up Inuyasha's friends instead of him. Let's see what happens next.
>>
Ah I remember this volume, it's the one where the bees no longer appear and Naraku stops running away
>>
>>274849290
Oh no!
>>
>>274849351
It was just as he said!
>>
>>274849387
Is Shippo safe?
>>
>>274849481
Ah. There he is. Also, doesn't sound fun.
>>
>>274849525
I assume this is jaki but I guess it could also be youki (per the title of the chapter). You get it though.
>>
>>274849592
Furinkan notes that: "The term Kikyo uses to describe Kagura, one of Naraku's incarnations, is "bunshin" (分身). This can mean "other self" or "alter ego" or simply "another part of oneself". It is also used in Buddhism to refer to various incarnations of Buddha."

I've posted this note before, but it does seem like VIZ is going to the more direct 'incarnation' rather than 'shade'.
>>
>>274849657
Lippy bundle.
>>
>>274849719
You know, I don't normally think of Naraku as looking 'cool' but he seems to manage it in this panel.
>>
>>274849781
He does, yeah.
>>
>>274849837
Sic 'em, boy.
>>
>>274849996
Plan's in place.
>>
>>274850036
I like when Kagome dons the robe as like an armor hood. I sort of like hooded archers.
>>
>>274850079
Very precise shot.
>>
>>274850106
>>
>>274850127
End of chapter! Kikyo...?
>>
Original title is 真の目的. It translates to 'True Purpose' literally, but the 'His' is accurate given the context.

September 11th, 2002. Author's note:
"Q: With autumn here, please tell us what sort of food you'd like to eat at least once in your life?
A: Something delicious! Like 100,005 manju!!"
>>
>>274850271
>>
>>274850333
Oh, I should've noted that the 'miasma' that Miroku is mentioning is 'shouki', ie. poisonous vapors, not jaki (demonic aura). Pretty sure.
>>
>>274850388
Shippo balloon again. Cute small faces here. Sango put her mask on again for filtration.
>>
>>274850475
Not good.
>>
>>274850496
Kagome was correct.
>>
>>274850536
Lot of sound effects on this page.
>>
>>274850579
I wonder if lines like this are to remind people where exactly we are since you might lose track reading weekly. Otherwise, it seems pretty pointless.
>>
>>274850637
Hey again.
>>
>>274850720
Not that he's been counting.
>>
>>274850754
>>
>>274850794
Incoming.
>>
>>274850864
Furinkan notes that: "When Inuyasha and Koga arrive safely the official Viz English translation has Kagome saying, "You're okay! Thank God!" In the original Japanese she does not invoke God, instead she says, "Good, you're safe..." or "What a relief, you're all in one piece..." (よかった無事で.../yokatta, buji de...). The meaning is more or less the same, but there is no religiousity in Kagome's utterance."

I admittedly don't think I would have read this line and thought 'what god does she mean?'
>>
>>274850946
Almost got him to do it. Ah well.
>>
>>274850988
Furinkan mentions that: ""My eyes are not just holes in my head." - This is a translation of a Japanese idiom. In the original Japanese Kikyo states, "私の目は節穴ではない" (Watashi no me wa fushiana de wa nai). This means "my eyes are not just knot holes"."

Like in wood. Other people translate it as 'I am not blind' or 'You can't pull the wool over my eyes' in other situations.
>>
>>274851180
She doesn't seem impressed with the costume change.
>>
>>274851234
Hm...?
>>
>>274851271
End of chapter!!
>>
September 18th, 2002. Author's note:
"Q: What is something you cut corners on in your everyday life?
A: Swimming."
>>
>>274851348
Quite the gash. You can see she is brittle, despite her lifelike appearance otherwise. I half wonder what she's like to the touch.
>>
>>274851419
She also had a shield of gravesoil, in case you don't remember.
>>
>>274851465
Hm...
>>
>>274851304
>I will steal Kagome's almost completed shikon jewel
>I'll give it to naraku
>I'll be the one to kill him
>>
>>274851497
Leaking.
>>
>>274851545
I assume this one is shouki, since they earlier translated that as miasma and it is all bubbly and whatnot.
>>
>>274851614
Three impalements.
>>
>>274851664
Her thoughts lie with him.
>>
>>274851759
Kind of a big fuss.
>>
>>274851807
In case you didn't catch it through localization, Furinkan notes that: ""H-How dare he address Lord Sesshomaru so familiarly!" - Naraku does not address Sesshomaru as "Lord Sesshomaru/Sesshomaru-sama" has he had done in the past. Naraku obviously feels his new body places him on equal footing with Sesshomaru."
>>
>>274851871
>>
>>274851419
All I see are tits
>>
>>274851953
Man, imagine if this was how all this ended.
>>
>>274851988
The ball full of parts is a cool image, even though him looking so smug despite being shredded does make him seem a bit goofy.
>>
>>274852071
>>
>>274852107
>>
>>274852225
Off he goes.
>>
>>274852271
Not in time.
>>
>>274852338
End of chapter! Seems pleased.
>>
September 25th, 2002. Author's note:
"Q: Napoleon said "the word impossible is not in my dictionary," what word is not in your dictionary?
A: 10 hours of sleep."
>>
>>274852533
>>
>>274852559
Hm...
>>
>>274852589
We don't really know when Sessh arrived to the scene.
>>
>>274852681
Sesshomaru spoke for himself here, but Jaken still gets to yes man.
>>
>>274852748
>>
>>274852775
I still don't know how to interpret this moon phase. I feel you could make an argument for Waning Crescent or Waning Gibbous. Either way, it isn't New Moon.
>>
>>274852881
Remember him? He went by Muso for a bit.
>>
>>274852926
I jumped the gun. Sorry.
>>
>>274852961
...
>>
>>274849040
Are we free of the band of seven namek yet?!
>>
>>274853027
Furinkan notes that: "When Koga looks Kagome in the face and holds her hand the Japanese onomatopoeia "jiii" (じー). This is the "sound" of staring at someone."

Hence "STARE".
>>
>>274853076
Her bones!?

>>274853046
They're dead, Jim.
>>
>>274852421
Smug little bastard
>>
>>274853148
I wonder if she could've fled. It seems unlikely.
>>
>>274853208
>>
>>274853265
>>
>>274853300
She waited for him while others slept.
>>
>>274853328
>>
>>274853300
I mean, she technically already was
>>
>>274853349
End of chapter. Furinkan notes that "In this chapter the official English translation from Viz has Kagome say "oh God" at the end of the chapter. In the original Japanese she simply repeats "what should I do?" (どうしょう/doushou)." I guess localization felt it was a bit more dramatic this way.
>>
October 2nd, 2002. Author's note:
"Q: There are only three months left in the year, what would you like to do before the end of the year?
A: I want to meet the person I want to meet."
>>
>>274853526
Been a while since we've gotten a chapter opening like this. No points for guessing what happens to these men.
>>
>>274853148
>They're dead, Jim.
Yeah, but still we had them nameking lmao
>>
>>274853562
At least they didn't suffer long, I guess.
>>
>>274853679
Furinkan notes that: "The demons that travel in groups like swarms are often referred to as "small fry" or "insignificant" demons (zako yokai/雑魚妖怪)."

Not really that insignificant if this is the third village skeletonized though.
>>
>>274853756
Disastrous.
>>
>>274853779
A bit grim when you think about Kikyo's death being "worst of all" when it comes to this situation, given the mass graves you guys are digging, but that's the kind of story this is.
>>
>>274853858
?!
>>
>>274853903
>>
>>274853562
>I only hope nothing worse comes of this!
>*disintegrated by demon tsunami next page*
>>
>>274853925
Sigh...

>>274853953
I thought of mentioning that as being particularly funny last words, but his actual last words were 'oh no...' with the other villager which I imagine are a lot of people's last words.
>>
>>274854005
Kind of nice to see Sango in her casual clothes again.
>>
>>274854034
Not going in for a fight immediately.
>>
>>274854069
Bit of a misunderstanding on Shippo's part. Also, we have a note about this man by Furinkan:
"[O]ne of the ... prisoners is wearing a black hat and puffy balls on his outfit. This uniform marks him as practioner of a particular religious group- the shugendo."

I don't know anything about it, honestly.
>>
>>274854166
Gruesome.
>>
>>274854224
>>
>>274854253
Too bad that Shippo and Kirara get disintegrated here.
>>
>>274854281
...?
>>
>>274854308
A lie he couldn't help but pursue.
>>
>>274854342
End of chapter...!
>>
Three pages were originally in full color in this chapter.

October 9th, 2002. Author's note:
"Q: What catch copy stands out in your mind from a television commercial?
A: Hama no hito."
Furinkan's note: "Catch copy is text that is designed to grab your attention in advertising."

Furinkan would usually tell me what ad she's referencing, but given that they didn't, I assume it is impossible to figure out. It means 'People of Hama'. And there was an exhibition with that name back in 2018, but that was in 2018. And this was in 2002.
>>
>>274854516
Furinkan mentions that this is number 8, since the hair creature wasn't actually one. This includes the one that lasted about a page and Muso.
>>
>>274854572
You know, I assumed the ability to sense them wouldn't be in the eyes themselves.
>>
>>274854600
Skipped an art spacer.
>>
>>274854615
I wonder if her kimono always has that. Or does she just wear her jumpsuit under it? I don't actually know what Sango's weapon situation is like. She can shoot stuff out of kneepads and whatnot, so it clearly is loose.
>>
>>274854698
Getting your weapon snatched like that is probably pretty demoralizing.
>>
>>274854778
Rescuing more than just themselves. Also, some joy of battle.
>>
>>274854867
Sort of spelling it out in case it isn't obvious what the hold up is.
>>
>>274854516
The darkness in the heart
NOMURAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>
>>274854902
Can you blame her?
>>
I remember being a kid and my PC desk faced away from my TV and hearing inuyasha on adult swim
>INUYASHAAAAAAAA
>KAGOMEEEEEE
>INUYASHAAAAAA
>KAGOMEEEEEEE
>>
>>274854937
Not a nice hug.
>>
>>274854986
Sigh...

>>274854964
You miss out on that in the manga a bit. Not because they say it less, but because you're less likely to scream it out in your head while reading.
>>
>>274855039
Someone in a Ranma 1/2 thread the other day really hated Kagome for this. Frustrating.
>>
>>274855091
I feel the baby's horror aspect hits.
>>
>>274855091
I can't imagine why
>>
>>274855119
The wild goose chase appears to have concluded.
>>
>>274855151
Good news. Shippo isn't all bones.
>>
>>274855171
I love this gag with the usual acorns. What a waste though. He better gather more later.

Anyway, Kirara is safe too.
>>
>>274855201
Fighting nonlethally is making things tough.
>>
>>274855240
Bad baby!
>>
>>274855263
End of chapter! Kagome!
>>
>>274849525
>Hiraikotsu can block the wind scar
Bullshit.
>>
October 16th, 2002. Author's note:
"Q: What was the first record you bought?
A: An LP of Italian film music."
>>
>>274855326
Rooftop traversal. Not as much as in Ranma, since there are a lot fewer roofs.

>>274855297
Well, it was strengthened last time, right? Or maybe you can say it lost a bit of strength being spun around in the vortex, even if it wasn't dissipating, it maybe was being split up.
>>
>>274855417
>>
>>274855437
I wish his punching attack had an over the top name too.
>>
>>274855482
>>
>>274855533
Probably going to stain the tatami.
>>
>>274855594
Been happening a lot lately...
>>
>>274855612
Furinkan notes that: "The mountain temple that Kagome is taken to after she is captured has three decapitated Buddhist sculptures inside. Though it is difficult to make identifications of the figures, the largest one, is sitting on a lotus flower, a common part of Buddhist iconography."

Yeah, they had another typo. I might email them about all these, but I would need to organize it.
>>
>>274855662
Would he like pretend to be a normal baby or like hide in a cave somewhere?
>>
>>274855612
Now that's a scenic evil lair
>>
Random thought: give Naraku's origin, I'm surprised no other Naraku-like demon has emerged from an evil heart offering itself to a hoard of demons.
>>
>>274855729
I assume she's thinking of putting it in the forehead? I assume anywhere works.
>>
>>274855758
Hm.

>>274855740
Yeah, evil from a mundane source does mean that it seems unlikely it couldn't happen more but I guess it never gets to be this powerful without a lot of factors lining up. I imagine some exist as oddball half-demons elsewhere.
>>
>>274855833
...

>>274855737
I agree. Especially with the statues.
>>
>>274855853
This method is not unlike what happened with Hakushin, now that I think of it.
>>
>>274855908
Oh yeah, it was the forehead.
>>
This time I was late

Welcome and thank you OP
>>
>>274855927
Not exactly subtle, but I don't mind. Dramas like this often overblow emotions, not just in the ways they make us feel, but also in the ways they reflect upon us. But people are allowed to feel bad things without being bad.
>>
>>274856028
He made it in time since the suggestion failed. Adds a bit to what could've been a more typical rescue scene.

>>274855981
Don't worry! I've been so late lately.
>>
>>274856028
Wow, Kagome employing some dialectical behavioral therapy techniques here. No feelings are wrong feelings, girl!
>>
>>274856131
>>
>>274856155
End of chapter. I appreciate VIZ translating 'bitch' more accurately now. I wonder why they didn't do it from the get-go. Also, I just noticed it is the baby saying that.
>>
Original title is 捨てた心 which appears to translate to 'The Abandoned Heart' or 'The Heart that was Given Up'. Discarded is also obviously accurate. I just figured I'd throw it out in case there's some nuance.

October 23rd, 2002. Author's note:
"Q: What's the first thing you do to take a break when you finish working?
A: Sleep."
>>
>>274856346
Kanna brought the shard. I wonder if she'll do anything else this scene.
>>
>>274856393
Furinkan has a long note here:

""What in the eight hells are you?" - Inuyasha says this upon seeing the Infant in the Viz English translation. In the original Japanese he simply says, "You... what the hell are you?" (てめえ。。。いったいなんなんだ。)
Despite this term not being in the original Japanese, it is an accurate term. In Pureland Buddhism the eight hells are:
Toukatsu Jigoku – The Reviving Hell
Kokujou Jigoku – The Hell of Black Rope
Shugou Jigoku – The Crushing Hell
Kyoukan Jigoku – The Screaming Hell
Daikyoukan Jigoku – The Hell of Great Screaming
Jounetsu Jigoku – The Burning Hell
Daijounetsu Jigoku – The Great Burning Hell
Mugen Jigoku – The Hell of Unending Suffering"

Uh, the newer translation went with seven? I don't know why. I don't know where the expression comes from.
>>
>>274856522
After a volume or so of the anime attack names and Sango being a demon slayer, she's back to being an exterminator.

>>
>>274856763
?
>>
>>274856789
I don't really know what to make of this.
>>
>>274856812
>>
>>274856812
I see, so the sea of babies is a physical metaphor for how much baby batter he wanted to pump into Kikyo
>>
>>274856940
I'm a little upset that Red Tessaiga's whole schtick was breaking barriers and yet it can't break any of them after Naraku powered up. Like, I'm fine if Naraku's power up outclasses the power up granted by Red Tessaiga but at least make Naraku no longer use the same ball shields. Especially since they focus more on the deflection and absorption, you could do something like the vortex, without the shield imagery.
>>
>>274857108
>>
>>274857152
Like, the idea that 'oh it isn't actually just a shield, it reflects so Red Tessaiga's power isn't useful against it' sort of comes across, but the imagery and everyone calling it a shield makes the whole Red Tessaiga thing feel real pointless.

Sorry, a bit rambly.
>>
>>274857234
Kanna, in fact, did not do anything else this scene other than provide the tainted shard.
>>
>>274857234
She should've made it mirror themed or something
>>
>>274857272
I imagine the double meaning of 'take advantage of' does not exist in Japanese, but I can't be certain.
>>
>>274857304
The baby almost sounds like he's trying to get Kagome and Inuyasha together.
>>
>>274857341
Baby got another expression.
>>
>>274857390
>>
>>274857424
He's a bit overwhelmed with emotion.
>>
>>274857465
End of chapter. But she's had enough drama. Cute stuff.
>>
Original title is 耳千里 and it is a name, hence why it was translated in the original VIZ localization but not translated here. The kanji here translate to 'Thousand-Mile Ears' per Furinkan and machine translation.

October 30th, 2002. Author's note:
"Q: What was your first part-time job
A: Handing out leaflets at department stores."
>>
>>274857670
Furinkan notes that: "Kaede has rebuilt the small shrine that contained Kikyo's ashes. This is called a "hokora" (祠). Technically hokora are associated with Shintoism, however in modern Japan they often have markings more connected with Buddhism. Ashes are not typically placed inside a hokora."
>>
>>274857696
>>
>>274857721
Kikyo really is such an unusual character. She is dead and stories about characters like this usually draw very clear lines about the 'natural order of things'. But Inuyasha, as a series, sort of plays with that. After all, Kikyo herself wanted to live. She may not have been who she was in life, but she was still her in part and not just an abomination mimicking her.

But we still know that one must move on. After all, this Kikyo may have abandoned the idea of dragging Inuyasha to hell, her thoughts were still solely on revenge and dying with Inuyasha.

Sorry, getting a bit rambly again.
>>
>>274857856
Furinkan notes they're at WacDonald's again. They seem to always get the same seat.
>>
>>274857874
Does Kagome's third friend only show up sporadically or am I crazy?
>>
>>274857903
Well, he could chase rumors like other people and demons do, I guess.
>>
>>274857920
Heard it through the water too.
>>
>>274857903
>Did something happen?
>Yeah... The zombie of my half-demon boyfriend's ex got killed and I nearly got possessed by an evil baby because I was kinda jealous about it. Just a lot to process, you know?
>>
>>274857951
Furinkan notes that: "Both Naraku and Mimisenrei refer to one another with the pronoun "kisama" (貴様) which is quite derogatory. It makes it clear neither of them like the other very much."

One of those things that is hard to localize. You can't really just make both of them say 'you bastard' every time without it sounding silly.
>>
>>274858322
You know, when I mentioned the chasing rumors thing, I hadn't read ahead and seen that he literally does just do that.
>>
>>274858355
>>
I fail to understand the difference between Muso and the baby, as far as their relationship to Naraku goes.
>>
>>274858384
My guess is that Muso was heart+feelings so if he died Naraku would've died too, while the baby is just the heart?
>>
>>274858383
All accounted for. Except for the one that ends up in Kagome's time. Don't think about that too hard. Rumiko basically said 'yeah, that was a mistake and that's why I didn't do that anymore since it raised too many questions'. Which is sad because yokai story in the modern day was cool!
>>
>>274858384
I think Muso was a more whole version of Onigumo, while the baby is presumably just the part of Onigumo that's vital to Naraku. All the other babies were the useless bits of Onigumo shed off in the process and discarded.
>>
>>274858505
Blush feh.

>>274858384
>>274858436
I'll be honest, I assumed it was something more related to the process and the remnants being left in the mountain than anything else. But that is just an assumption. I don't remember the details well enough.
>>
>>274858585
The usual plan.
>>
>>274858635
Didn't even get a full page of wistfulness.
>>
>>274858661
Visual contact with Buyo.
>>
>>274858383
>>274858505
So is the final one Naraku's looking for not one of the three Inuyasha et al know about?
>>
>>274858690
Oh no, he lost his cool factor with Sota. This is what happens when you don't save him from modern day yokai.
>>
>>274858732

Original title is 鬼女の集落. Which translates to 'The Village of Oni Women'. Ogre being the typical translation of oni, of course. Not sure why they went with colony. Maybe it is just more accurate in context.

Furinkan notes that the "wall scroll painting features an image of Kannon (Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit). Kannon is a "bosatsu" (Bodhisattva). The mudra (hand gestures) performed by Kannon in the painting are common iconography. This particular mudra is called "Raigo-in" (来迎印) or "Vitarka" in the original Sanskrit. In English it is known as the "Reasoning Mudra"."

I don't know why they would (aside from Twitter users being subhuman of course). Most Naraku-type half demons probably revel too much in their newfound power and get swiftly exterminated, which seems to be hinted at by how quickly so many of Naraku's incarnations go off the handle and draw attention to themselves. Naraku has only lasted this long because the mind behind the demon aggregate adamantly refuses to engage in conflict unless it has heavily stacked the deck in its favor.

Other anon is right, it’s non-canon shit and Yashahime is nothing but a fanfiction. Rumiko confirmed it herself when she said in an interview that for HER Sesshomaru was always meant to be Rin’s Hogosha, aka her legal parental figure.

Even Shiina came out and admitted on his Twitter that Yashahime is just a what-if spinoff AU.
>>
>>274849040
based
>>
>>274890724
This is exactly why Inuyasha will always be the weakest of Rumiko’s 4 biggest works. That repetitive structure might work for an episodic romcom with no real plot like UY or Ranma, but it’s suicide for a battle adventure shonen that depends on its plot making meaningful progress.

Let’s not even talk about Miroku and the Bees…

>>274902687
>>274903023
I really don't give a shit about Treekyo meeting InuKag. I don't get why fans are flipping out over it when the Yashahime manga shows Inuyasha actually being loving towards Kagome compared to the anime which still kept milking the Sit shit. And I like InuKag
>>
>>274905740
They also hate that Kagome praises Sessrin and says she envies them and wishes she and Inuyasha were like that, they say that’s extremely OOC for her to say and think.

Which to be fair it is, even putting aside the Sessrin debate, can you even try to imagine King of Autism Lord Sesshomaru ever being ROMANTIC?

See this is why people call Yashahime a glorified fanfiction and can’t believe it’s canon.

I mean, the way he behaves in Yashahime is about the closest he ever gets. Constantly dropping off expensive gifts for Rin is by far the nicest thing Sesshomaru has done for...well, anyone.
>>
>>274890724

I don't get how it's OOC. Inuyasha obviously loves and cares for Kagome but he may not exactly know everything there is about what a girl desires due to being ostracized for most of his life. And Kagome wasn't even angry or upset at him

I wasn’t so much implying it’s OOC for InuKag, more so that it’s OOC for SESSHOMARU to be romantic (with Rin yet) and it’s also OOC for Kagome to approve of and praise the relationship considering how grossed out she got when she found out about Miroku hitting on an 11 year old Koharu.
>>

>>
>>274916123
>more so that it’s OOC for SESSHOMARU to be romantic (with Rin yet)
He's romantic in the sense he's basically just showing up and giving her highly expensive and luxurious gifts before fucking off again. It's essentially every shoujo manga fan's dream of what a relationship with a prince or king would be like.

>and it’s also OOC for Kagome to approve of and praise the relationship considering how grossed out she got when she found out about Miroku hitting on an 11 year old Koharu.
For one, this is the feudal era. And for another, UNLIKE Miroku, Sesshomaru actually waited until Rin was an adult before courting her.
>>
>>274918245
>Sesshomaru actually waited until Rin was an adult before courting her.
That’s still fucking grooming and Kagome should know that.

My 2010 self thought that Inuyasha's unique enough to justify having relationships with two different women without it being considered cheating, double timing or whatever Miroku and Sango call it, and I still hold that position today.
>>
>>274950583
Obviously, but it is about the initial presentation and description of the power up, not the means by which is was achieved.
>>
>>274950583
Most people viciously skim Inuyasha instead of actually applying context to the shit they read.

>>274950680
Yes. That is the entire fucking point of why Naraku went there + getting rid of Onigumo's heart.
>>
>>274955444
He didn't actually mention the shield aspect during his plans.
>>
>>274951163
Not really. Miroku opened it once then Naraku sent the bees and after that Miroku's focus was on fighting the Naraku puppet.

Do you really think coming up with a plausible, in-universe lore explanation is the most important part of writing? The point is that whole plotline feels like it accomplished nothing because the situation reverted to the status quo.

yes, they are back where they started. must be frustrating for Kagome and the gang.
but at least they don't throw in the towel

Exact opposite actually. Kagome broke free from the baby's control by accepting that she has those feelings.

Rumiko wasted a perfectly good arc here, she should’ve done more with the concept of Naraku and the Baby attempting to manipulate Kagome and turn her to their side, like there should’ve been a Dark Kagome arc like the Tsubaki arc or first movie except Kagome’s MIND is actually being controlled rather than just her body and it would be up to Inuyasha to bring her back to her senses (paralleling how Kagome always brings him back when he goes full demon mode, could be a nice showcase of character development for him where he’s putting into action all he’s learned from Kagome and now it’s his turn to be her emotional support)

The Baby in general was just huge wasted potential. A unique dark character whose gimmick has a lot of potential to create interesting story and character moments that could've been utilized much more.
>>
>>274977196
Alternatively, have a dark Kagome arc but instead of hanyo dick have it be Kikyo who brings her back to the light side. You know, to cement the fact that she has let go of her own darkness and resentment from earlier on and have her go through a true moment of altruism overcoming her own insecurities and jealousies. And maybe, just maybe have an anime original comedic arc where everyone pressures her to pretend to be Kagome in the modern world. Show her suffering the wrath of modern Japanese and Algebra

I think it was a very powerful moment. The anime even showed the Baby seething with rage when Kagome broke free.
