for the things they cut like this, I guess it's just because they wanted the 3 seasons to all be a uniform 25 episodes each and Shizuka just doesn't fit
>>
>>275333105
Shizuka's just completely disconnected from the rest of the cast, like off the top of my head the only time where he's ever even remotely relevant to anyone else is when True Human gets serialized over KTM.

>>275332990
Yeah, I’ve been thinking the same thing since the beginning. Some chapters aren’t so bad, but a lot of them are like this one.
>>
>>275335304
They're published in the same mag but that doesn't change chain of command. Why assign an editor to someone if any editor is considered okay to just support any artist? Focus on what's on your plate and trust others around you to get done with what's on theirs. It's kinda egotistical to go behind another editor's back to support another artist as if you have a better idea of what they need.

>>
>>275327727
It's likely those two.
If you think about it, Naruto was about a year or so into airing shippuden when this chapter was being published. One piece has always been near the top, while of the 'big three' bleach was already dropping off since it got axed around two years after Bakuman finished.

>>275340190
considering his editor, probably bribes he's given him.
>>
>>275335304
>Like why? Aren't they all from the same magazine.
From what I can gather from reading Bakuman, is that Shonen Jump itself works on a competition basis. Not just for the authors, but editors as well. If you're all working together, you get lazy, but if you feel like you can get fired for not being as good as your coworkers, you will be motivated
>>

On a re-read Miura's approach here sticks out more. He's focused on getting a stable series that has a lock on a target niche audience. While there are some differences, it makes me think this overlaps with Ashirogi Muto's preference for targeting a non-mainstream niche. Being an analytical kind of guy Shujin wasn't against gag manga eventually but as we're seeing even he has his limits and strengths that a pure data approach can't make up for. And the duo are realizing they won't be satisfied with the kind of low key success Miura is pushing for.

>>275359167
Ashirogi Muto bros it's over for us...
>>
>>275358535
>it started to go bad when we added humor to it
You mean, it started to go bad when you were upset because you couldn't fucking communicate with your editor and weren't passionate about what you were making. Kenichi was clearly always meant to be a humorous story with the "297M yen remaining" bit as well.
>>
>>275359130
he's being a retard, you can't force a hit it has to happen naturally.
>>
>>275359167
I don't think they should have gave up on Tanto, kids like it. They should have had 2 mangas going on at the same time. Tanto's art style is easy enough to do as well
>>
>>275358956
>19
>still a kid

>>
>>275364577
The issue is they still refuse to settle on a goal. They claim to only want an anime. There's 2 paths there: make a wild breakout hit or make a stable long term manga. The 2nd one's easier and it's what they've been drifting towards, but they keep complaining about artistic expression while their goal is entirely commercial. I think it's reasonable given they're young and dumb and provides a nice clash between romanticism and realism in the industry, but I wish Mashiro would question his silly promise more and Miura would discuss the core issue in planning a series instead of letting them run in circles.
>>
>>275359409
yea it's a problem with this manga
>>
>>275364475
when talking about it they said it would be funny him trying out different jobs and failing at some right? Who would want to read a serious manga about entrepreneurship?
>>
>>275364620
Miura isn't wrong at all even though they try to make him out to be. A stable gag manga for kids is perfectly fine
>>
>>275364904
But we don't want to be [beloved classic children's series]!
We want to be [smash megahit superstar]!
Treating Jump as a competition might've been one of the top 5 mistakes of this series. The rivalry is fun and all but chasing the top before anything else really does make it seem like they just care about placement and not about telling a story they care about. It's pretty cynical and to an extent is true to some authors, but the authors with actual visions are usually treated as having more personality defects than the ones we just followed through the Dramabowl.
>>
>>275364683
It also wouldn't surprise me if Takahama hit a wall with coming up with scenarios after a while even though he said he could just do internet research. It reminds me that once he starts the Ace Attorney knockoff manga we often see him spending a lot of time observing in person at courtrooms and his workplace is absolutely covered in books.

And of course there was Nakai there from the start of BB Kenichi messing with the work environment.

I can see maybe if he went wrong with making the gags too retarded.

Like he tries to start a delivery service, and the gags naturally come from hijinks making them late on deliveries or such. But then Mirua suggests something retarded like what if they train dogs to do the deliveries for them instead and the business fails because the dogs ended up eating the deliveries.
>>
>>275365248
>It's over. I don't remember it going so quickly.
really? felt like the Tanto arc dragged on forever. How many chapters did they even do so far?
>>
>>275365875
>How many chapters did they even do so far?
If +Natural has published chapter 7 that means Tanto chapter 6 just ran alongside it and Niizuma is working on chapter 10 of +Natural. The man really did give it the 3 episode test.
>>
>>275365958
barely 10 chapters and they're throwing a fit over it? At least get to 30 chapters
>>
>>275364791
I think other than wanting to beat Eiji and Iwase, the reason they also gave up on Tanto was because Takagi couldn't write any more gags and was on the point of collapse, it would've got cancelled anyway
>>
>>275366599

Repetitive gags at least do keep the series formula locked in for young viewers. A lot of zoomers probably know the story beats of a typical Phineas and Ferb episode by now
>>
>>275358436
>parents in real estate
capitalist pigs
>>
>>275368385
It also provides the framework for multiple gags, since subverting it becomes a potential as well. Kids tend to like a lot of commenting-on-the-obvious jokes (much much moreso in Japan, I've found) so baking in gag formats into characters is actually very solid advice.
>>
>>275358535
I feel like it'd be hard to transition away from gag with the MC's lame ass design

>>275358436

>>275364683
The 297M yen remaining bit sounds to me like a serious setting.
He can do good or bad, and it keeps track of how much money he has currently. Probably down the line he'd make a huge blunder and you'd have a 1m yen remaining or something where he'd build back up from.
>>
>>275360699

>>
>>275358535
>BB Kenichi wasn't a gag manga
I'm still struggling to understand what exactly it was, if not a gag manga.
Was Takahama actually trying to publish a serious story about a young entrepreneur in WSJ?
>>
>>275361165
To be fair, that's not an inaccurate depiction of teenagers.
>>
>>275364837
That's the main thing that's frustrated me about them for a while.
They have two goals, and those goals are somewhat conflicting, but not only do they utterly fail to see that, but none of the adults around them whose job it is to make manga sell see it either.
If they were either purely passionate or purely pragmatic about the pursuit of manga, it wouldn't bug me so much.
>>
>>275368385
With Phineas and Ferb, it being repetitive was part of the joke.
But does that kind of self-aware meta humor appeal to Japs the way it does to westoids?
>>
>>275370412
They could probably give him a makeover if needed. Hell the inventor angle makes a kamen rider tech based transformation more reasonable. Though the stupid heart hair being one of the defining features seems like a big constraint.
>>
>>275364791
Tanto's art might have been easy, but they make a point of how hard writing it was for Takagi, for whom comedy doesn't come naturally.
>>
>>275359130
>You should give the characters catchphrases. Like, for example, the grandpa could say "wubba lubba dub dub".
>>
>>275374695
To be fair, they've never been very clear with Miura what their actual goals are. They just whine about rankings and self-deprecate in a lot of their conversations, then walk away blaming Miura for most of their problems.

>>
>>275358535
Honestly BB Kenichi was basically the same kind of humor they go with for PCP.
It's kind of interesting when you think of it like that, Takahama is basically a non-edgy Ashirogi in terms of the kind of manga he writes. Both his series are non-mainstream and neither are battle-manga in the traditional sense of having actual fights. He was convinced Kenichi wasn't a comedy and his Ace Attorny parody later would be the same kind of humor.
I just think Kenichi was a very middling concept of a story and it was inevitable axebait and that's the reason it flopped not that "Shitty Miura ruined it by making it too gag-focused!" like they all push. At this point of the plot they really want to blame Miura for everything, even though he didn't exactly do anything wrong. Honestly the only thing you can actually fault Miura for is insist on them doing a comedy as a new story when they don't want to and it's not like they actually fail at it they just are stubborn and want a big hit.

>rather than aiming for a series 10/10 might vote for
>aim for a series that 2/10 absolutely will vote for
Wasn't that even a quote straight out of godsavior Hattori's mouth? Aim for niche's?
Miura's absolutely not wrong in his approach. Ashirogi is just utterly shit at communicating what they want, because they don't fucking know what they want.

It's not a bad advice, but still not something Mashiro and Takagi want, as they want to compete with Eiji for the #1 spot and at the end of the day, no matter the cult status, will not get #1 during its runtime.
Deathnote wasn't a hit because it hit that 2/10, but because it showed mainstream teenagers that there are stories they might like that are not simple battle manga. It's like marketing in advertising "Customers don't know what they want"

I'd also point out that they panicked when Trap was struggling but sticking to their guns eventually showed audiences there was a good detective manga in Jump. The niche targeting approach was crucial at the start to get them started and build experience around their strengths and Hattori made it clear they couldn't compete with Nizuma with a mainstream battle shonen at their level.

I like how Takahama ends up being a strong successor to Ashirogi Muto. Makes sense with how long he's worked with them.

Depends on the series. Jump has at least one meta humor manga in the mag at all times. For the last few years, that one was Roboco. Previous gens had Isobee or Gintama

Just a more shounen Trillion Game

>And what if we incorporated an overarching plot, but were openly butthurt about the fact that our fans are invested in the plot haha.
