I don't understand this market. Usually when gold and silver go up this much, you'd think it's because of fear in the market and institutions rebalancing their holdings and moving money out of more risky equities. But in this market PMs and tech growth stocks are all pumping at the same time and the S&P500 keeps going up. Where does the money come from for such a massive rally to take place in PMs, without any money flowing out of the stock market?

I mean, I do agree that the market is due for a correction, but every time someone mentions Berkshire's cash position it's always blown out of proportions and without the actual context. Buffett officially retired last week. He even stated himself a while back that leading up to his retirement, his goal was to leave the new CEO with enough cash to make his own investment decisions for the future of Berkshire, without making some big buys in his last year that would overshadow whatever the new leadership has planned.

I'm thinking about shorting with leverage. Maybe Samsung? The money I'd lose is not important, I just need to show that I can do a 20% with a single try.

What stock do I short? Samsung? Alphabet?

Yes, I'm sure the venezuelans who have suffered for years under Maduro as he turned their country into a communist hellhole and devalued their money to the point where it was worth less than Runescape gold, who imprisoned his political opponents and just recently stole a democratic election must be really sad that he's gone now.

EVERYONE is celebrating his capture, except for a handful of completely retarded, brainwashed western communists. Those same people that were really busy last week defending Somali immigrants defrauding Minnessota for billions of $. You people are either retarded or brainwashed, but one thing is for sure, you are increasingly losing any and all support of the general public. All around the world.

>Yes, I'm sure the venezuelans who have suffered for years under Maduro as he turned their country into a communist hellhole and devalued their money to the point where it was worth less than Runescape gold, who imprisoned his political opponents and just recently stole a democratic election must be really sad that he's gone now.

No one cares about interventionism if it leads to a better outcome for both parties involved and is done swiftly and successfully. Interventionism is only bad when it's something like what America did in the middle east, where they fuck around for decades, wasting billions of $ and thousands of human lives, without any result and then they fuck off without anything to show for it.

This mission has freed the venezuelan people from an incompetent, communist dictator, severed China's and Iran's control over the area, gave the US a strategic victory over the oil reserves, showed an impressive force of strength, which tells China not to try anything in Taiwan anytime soon. No one can possibly frame any of this as a bad thing unless they are rooting against western interests.

In the short term, it helps.. Not because we will see any immediate material benefits from this, not because we captured a tyrant, not even because this checks Chinese and Russian influence in this hemisphere.
This helps because it removes a question: will US attack Venezuela or not. The market hates uncertainty more than any actual results. It hates not knowing. Above all it hates the "unknown unknowns." How can the market convince itself it can assess risk if it don't even know where to look?
It takes effort to understand and analyze events. It takes no effort to be anxious.

well, we'd be pretty upset if china did something like this in korea or japan or the phillipines. and it is provocative and escalatory on the cold war 2 game. if it delays or denies a taiwan invasion then it certainly was a good thing. but if it provokes one because we miscalculated it's not. there's something to be said for stability and respecting a nation's sovereignty too. it looks like a win for now but it's a little early to judge how good a move it was. and i'm not sure but you might be penelope too. i'm sorry but i want to cover all my bases today, make sure i tell her good morning and that i love her.

No. Let's not be dramatic. They have a short term cash flow problem in the interim of their massive AI spending but thats no different than any other current tech company. Right, that was my first thought about the oil companies as well. Why would they invest billions when oil is already in the dumps? Why would they invest billions in a country that already nationalized the oil infrastructure once? They'd need really serious security guarantees (as in a permanent US base on Venezuelan soil) before doing so. It would take years of effort, well beyond Trump's presidency (or lifespan at this point).

There are a lot of Venezuelans in my country, I know a few of them personally.
I gave my congratulations to one who is a friend of mine and he told me "You can't imagine how happy are we Venezuelans right now".
I don't know why would anyone find that suprising because the state of the country is so catastrophic, even for Latin American standards, that a whole 20+% of the population left in the last decade. The equivalent in the US would be as if in the span of 10 years the whole population of Texas and California left the country.

Still a completely different situation. the middle east needs dictators or monarchies, it's the only political structure that can prevent islamists from taking over. So removing dictators in those regions is a mistake because the power vacuum that creates only leads to far worse people taking over. Venezuela on the other hand has the potential to be a prosperous, democratic nation when given the chance. Unlike the middle east, people in latin american countries are capable of upholding democracies when they aren't being subverted by the CIA, cartels or communists. The people in Afghanistan or Iraq didn't want the US to intervene, the people of Venezuela absolutely wanted Maduro gone and are celebrating his removal.

The oil pump is based on hype that we're going to occupy Venezuela, which isn't going to happen. If there was a legitimate chance of anything happening, the VP would have stayed in Russia.
If you're investing in OXY because you like boomer companies, that's fair. However, don't delude yourself that the Venezuela news is going to help it at all. Options are a waste when you can just buy cheap shares for the dividend if you like that.

By a small margin. More notable was that their decline was smaller than that of distant competitors like Rivian. Add to that the rollback, if not outright shuttering of EV programs at traditional carmakers like Ford, and expected interest rate declines, means Tesla may have a much smoother year in 2026. That doesn't even take into account Robotaxis, or the growth in their energy business, which is more difficult for analysts to predict.
>Tesla gets overtaken by BYD
BYD's cars are heavily subsidized, and sell at a lower price and margin. But BYD's success in Europe and Asia is actually bullish for Tesla, along with Xiaomi and Xpeng. It's a tide that will lift all boats, at least those that are competent.

I started buying in the low $6 range, and have kept buying as recently as the dip on Friday. I just find it really easy to buy. I would make big purchases of something else, and then throw whatever is left over into Sofi. Somehow it became my 4th biggest holding.
We're heading into a lower interest rate environment, and not much else needs to be said. It will do well this year.

I read a tweet that said Iran is ending some kind of currency peg which will immediately increase prices on goods by about 20-30%, but to compensate they are giving out a monthly stipend to the entire population which is equivalent to $7 (seven dollars).

I thought this is surely a joke so I looked into it. It's real.

Fair point. I have used them and I like the product. Im not sure how the stable coin will add value to them as it will be pinned with cash, but I guess they have the balance to back it up. I guess ill wait for a dip after earnings and start picking up a little bit.

I read the most recent Howard Marks memo earlier today.
It's from December but I thought it's very interesting. It is about AI and has nothing to do with Venezuela.

https://www.oaktreecapital.com/insights/memo/is-it-a-bubble

He more or less calls it a bubble, but also a technology that has the capacity to transform the world. In these cases, bubbles are good for everyone except those left holding the bag.

the only reason buffet is holding large amounts of cash is because berkshire hathaway has way too much cash to invest in the stocks he actually likes, and he doesn't see anything else IN ADDITION that is attractive, so he waits. Berkshire already has over 300 billion in the stock market, if he had small capital like everyone here he would be all in. He is not trying to time the market retards.
