Why are old comics so charming?
>>152149799No, it's just marketing.
>>152144886The radio Hornet was written for a slightly older listenership, about a third of whom were adults. The 8 to 12 set was listening to stuff like Nila Mack's "Let's Pretend."
>>152144886>20th century entertainment for 8-12 year old boys was written at a higher level than modern entertainment that’s ostensibly for adults. This doesn't apply to comic books.
>>152153636Well yes, but they were *professionals* and regardless of the pap they worked on they did it with a sense of dignity and doing the best with what they were handed.
>>152160036By being pretentious.
I don't get why The Hub died. >>152158069Wasn't it because they were renting a Discovery channel, and Discovery noticed there was money to be had there? >>152158450I think he's talking about the early EARLY days in 2010, when only Pensivepine had been uploading on day one.Either way, the whole thing about piracy is probably bait if he knows that much. Soon the Hub had it for free to watch on their website the next monday, and we had a guy who ripped and converted to avi.>>152158264>Pic related: what Hasbro thought would happen when they came up with the term "Bellybros"I'm not sure that was Hasbro.
I remember playing WoW until early hours of the morning and having Jem and the Holigrams, Fraggle Rock, and Transforms OG playing in the background. It was a surreal time like I had been transported back into the 80s
>>152159550>Deltora QuestAnime based on a popular Australian children's adventure book. It went under so many people's radar that not even /a/ or Ausfags knew about the anime. I don't think anyone even subbed it either. Never read the book myself so I can't compare or tell you if it was a decent adaption but from what little I watched, it was a pretty nice well grounded adventure fantasy. It wasn't flashy or fight focused like modern anime but just a simple adventure fantasy closer to Dragon Quest(the games) or the Trails of Skies series, more so on the later. The dub wasn't bad either. I only saw bits and pieces of the show but it was pretty comfy for what little I saw. I'd probably download it one day if I ever get the chance.>KaijudoSome strange western pokemon knockoff. There were a lot of those springing up at the time. Even nicktoons had a few.

>DC is giving fans a brand-new look at one of its strangest icons with Bizarro: Year None, a newly announced four-issue limited series that digs into the origins of Superman’s famously backward counterpart.>Coming from writers Kevin Smith (Green Arrow) and Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), with art and main cover by Nick Pitarra (The Manhattan Projects), the series promises what the creators are calling the “definitive, indefinitive” take on Bizarro’s beginnings—leaning fully into the character’s off-kilter charm and contradictions.>“Me am NOT excited for new comic!” said Bizarro. “Bizarro: Year None am worst thing to happen!”>The story follows Jimmy Olsen and Perry White as they leave the familiar halls of the Daily Planet behind for a strange journey into outer space. Their adventure takes them to a bizarre dimension that looks uncannily like Metropolis—right down to its reverence for a legendary newspaper treated almost like sacred scripture. As Jimmy and Perry dig deeper, they begin to uncover the truth behind this warped world and the mysterious figure at its center. Is he simply a misguided fan of Superman? A force of pure chaos? Or something else entirely?>Smith and Carrasco aim to balance comedy, emotion, and big sci-fi ideas in a story that embraces everything fans love about Bizarro’s upside-down logic. Meanwhile, Pitarra’s bold, highly detailed art brings a grounded intensity to the surreal setting, creating a version of Bizarro’s world that feels at once familiar—and deeply unsettling.>With Bizarro: Year None, DC is turning the funhouse mirror back on Superman’s strangest double, delivering a fresh origin tale that’s equal parts ridiculous, heartfelt, and gloriously weird.
>>152152076>>152152071>Kevin SmithNo.
>>152152071Keven Smith is working on a Bizzaro 4-ish? I think it sounds good. There's always more potential to be tapped in Bizarro. Keven Smith is the sort of writer to come up with new stuff for Bizarro, whether it's sci-fi, adventure, or philosophy. If Superman can speak, say, Chinese, and some un-Super humans can speak several languages, why wouldn't Bizarro learn to speak Normal? What's stopping him?
>>152154849That would actually be fun and inventive, so you know it's not going to happen. It's probably going to be like Bizarro's story in the old Adventure Comics 80-Page Giant, stretched out to 4 issues and packed to the brim with ever one of Smith's worst writing habits.
>Kevin SmithI don't want any of this.>>152152923He hasn't made a decent movie in over 20 years
>>152155732>Nick PitarraI forgot about him, after the manhattan projects.

What makes this show so appealing? What qualities make a show this good
>>152159932Jthm maybe not, but SQUEE certainly does. As far as I know, it was the reason he was hired by Nickelodeon. It's just uncensored Zim, with much of the same characters and plotlines. Jhonen even repeated the muffin episode of Zim in Fillerbunny 4. Just with pegging and rape, instead of muffins.
>>152159932>it really doesn't hold up that wellwhat makes you say that? i still have my old ass jthm copy. haven't read it in a long time, though
>>152160007I don't really know how to explain itit just feels dated with its style and humor in a bad way, if that makes sense? almost like it was one of the things chasing the post-Zim lolsorandom edgy hype instead of something that came before itlike, it gives me vibes of being a knockoff of the style it practically created
>>152155926What made Invader Zim appealing was how much it was able to stand out both visually and comedically. And that's due in part to having it be a children's cartoon written by edgier artists needing to get creative to push the envelope of a TV-Y7 rating WITHOUT upsetting the censors too much. You get some of the most inspired ideas with restrictions like that
The settingThe artstyleThe writingThe charactersIt all comes togethor to create this amazing piece of media I coubt will be ever replciated in our lifetime without extremely lucky bunch of coincidenses.
ITT: Characters that the show insists you should love but you hateThis is the main example
>>152150258I could never hate a gilf
>>152150065I do enjoy randy being an idiot, I just want more of the kids being idiots too.
>>152152305>unfunnySeriously are you retarded or joke deficient? He hard carries with his stupidity, if anything I'd argue Nicole has less punchlines and it's overall just a plot element in the background, I think only Anais has it worse with screentime to joke ratio.
>>152150228Best option for him? I would merge him with his Tim and Jason and call it a day
>>152150065>>152150297If you wanna go about it, all the characters in these shows sucks, and really the whole shows sucks>>152150394Her and Casey, honestly her character in general is pretty boring, other than she’s a smart black girl, which is weird cause wouldn’t she be giving herself superpowers and shit?
Just ripped this off Wikipedia. I'm struggling to understand how at ANY stage ANY of this is the king's fault?>King Magnifico and his wife, Queen Amaya, establish the kingdom of Rosas on an island in the Mediterranean Sea. Having studied sorcery, Magnifico is able to grant the greatest desires of his subjects, but they have to give up the memory of their wishes to be sealed away and protected by the king until he can grant them. Once a month, at a ceremonial event, Magnifico chooses one wish to be granted.>Years later, 17-year-old Asha prepares to interview for the job of Magnifico's apprentice on the day of her grandfather Sabino's 100th birthday, hoping that Magnifico will grant Sabino's wish to inspire the next generation. The interview goes well until Asha requests for Sabino's wish to be granted; which Magnifico, rendered paranoid by the destruction of his old kingdom, declines, citing the wish's vagueness. Asha realizes Magnifico never intends to return the ungranted wishes to their owners, and when she questions his methods, Magnifico refuses to accept her apprenticeship.
(cont'd)>Asha tries but fails to convince Sabino and her mother Sakina of the flaws in Magnifico's system. Distraught, she makes her own wish on a star, and to her surprise, the star descends from the sky in the form of an anthropomorphic star of light, which Asha names Star. Star's magic gives the forest animals, including Asha's pet goat Valentino, the ability to talk, and they tell her that all life is made of stardust. Encouraged, Asha enlists Star's help in retrieving her family's wishes. Everyone in the kingdom senses Star's presence, and Magnifico interprets it as a threat. Despite Amaya's pleas, he turns to a book of forbidden dark magic, which corrupts anyone that touches it, as his subjects begin to question the wishing system.>Asha retrieves Sabino's wish and he is overjoyed to be able to remember it, but Magnifico arrives to arrest them, having been informed that Asha was responsible for Star's summoning. Possessed by the dark magic, Magnifico intends to use Star's magic and Rosas's wishes to increase his own power, forcing Sabino and Sakina to flee to a nearby island while Asha, Star, and Valentino stay behind to free the citizens' wishes. One of Asha's friends, Simon, is revealed to be the one who sold her out to Magnifico, in hopes that his wish to become a knight would be granted. Magnifico grants the wish, but additionally bewitches Simon into being his henchman.
(fin)>Asha rallies her other friends Dahlia, Gabo, Hal, Bazeema, Safi, and Dario to put an end to Magnifico's reign. Amaya also joins them, having discovered Magnifico's corruption. While her friends infiltrate Magnifico's study and open up the ceiling to free the wishes, Asha tries to distract Magnifico, only to be tricked by a disguised Simon, whom she defeats with the animals' help. Magnifico ascends the castle's tower, absorbing the power of every wish and trapping Star. Asha attempts to stop him but is easily overpowered as Magnifico blocks out the sky and immobilizes the citizens, preventing them from wishing on stars.>Unwilling to give up, Asha remembers the animals' message from before and encourages the citizens to make a wish about changing Rosas's future. The strength of their collective desire overpowers Magnifico, releasing the wishes from him and freeing Star. Magnifico's magic turns against him and traps him inside his staff's mirror, while the citizens regain their sealed wishes with a newfound appreciation of pursuing them.>Amaya becomes the sole ruler of Rosas, helping the citizens make their wishes come true on their own. A regretful Simon is forgiven by Asha and her friends. Star gifts Asha with a magic wand so that she can inspire people to keep dreaming before returning to the sky among the other stars. So to be clear, the King had a nation where everything operated correctly; then the 'protagonist' did not directly benefit from the system that had functioned for decades so she tried to upend it, prompting the paranoid king to touch a book that turned him into a maniac? And then his wife takes over without any hesitation?!
>>152160784they portrayed it badly, because in the movie it seems like he refuses to grant really assinine and bornig wishes, when you are supposed to understand all those wishes he kepts would have make people question his authority and control or something. Once again it's badly shown how all the people are actually dependent on his magic because we focus on a circus of wacky people who can perfectly work independently since the plot requires it.Also realistically speaking, the King should have a whole army of magically competent knights and underlings, not just one for the last act.
>>152160837But surely keeping dissident or morally reprehensible wishes secret and ungranted is the duty of a wish-granting monarch?
This good?I liked Batman Dark Patterns.
Took the promising concept of Azrael and actually made something entirely satisfying with him for the first time since his original mini.
>>152158432It's okayJust remember that if you're not reading the TPB edition that you read the one-shot that comes before it
>>152158432If you liked Azrael try pre-flashpoint runs.
>>152160983There's only two runs and the latter of them with Michael Lane is shit despite the kino cover art.
>>152161012His costume is way cooler, too.
I wish there were more surreal comics.

How would (You) fix Spawn as a concept?
>>152155597Go full horror with a thin superhero veneer. His hellskin/symbiote looks like that because he grew up on superhero stuff and the costume mutated into that look and feeds into his hero ideology pushing him to become more and more monsterous corrupting him till he becomes a real hellspawn. He's fighting a losing battle and the suit dangles "eating evil people to give himself more life and time on earth" in front of him. Al Simmons is not a good man. Not on any level but the idea of being good despite being objectively a bad person is a failing that many evil people have. But he does play into the ego trip of being a hero and falls hard many places. Make it so that the costume messes with his memories so he doesn't fully realize who he was and that he's not some hero who was betrayed by dark forces.
>>152156096I don't like Al being a cop instead of a soldier. The analog of him being in soldier in life and being so recognized makes him a good candidate for a soldier in hell's army works too well. A cop just isn't the same, maybe swat is close. Plus him using weapons instead of his powers because he's ultimately still a jarhead and naturally handles ammo better than magic is a cool angle. Especially if his powers are limited or traceable with his I think it was the Spawn cartoon where at one point it's recognized that Spawn is using Al's tactics and it's a cool bit of storytelling.
>>152155597>How would (You) fix Spawn as a concept? "Fix"?
Spawn's concept is just something "cool" for Todd to make toys of

>>152157674His art makes me feel... itchy
Euhghh who the hell would draw themselves like that? Draw yourself normal or way better. Leave the ugliness in the past. Having a bad self image, even if its honest or some other delusional bullshit, is proven to fill you with deadly poison.
>>152160904>or way betterThat's way worse.
Marvel editors push back on shit getting swept under the rug. Meanwhile DC's constant reboots and shitty editorial mean nobody ever pays for their crimes.>Green Arrow has murdered a couple people over the years, sometimes in cold blood, and is still a Justice League member.>Red Hood murdered hundreds of people, but is welcome to lunch with the batfamily>Cheshire nuked a middle-eastern terrorist state to set up a ransom demand. She was tried for crimes against humanity, but now she's allowed to chill with the heroes.>Deathstroke and the Brotherhood of Evil nuked an AMERICAN city to ash. Nobody cares. They're just allowed to exist in the world.>Black Adam murdered millions of people across dozens of countries, then joined the Justice League, somehow. Why is DC so shit with this?
>>152158898Zero Hour, Infinite, & Final Crisis aren't reboots. That's my point. Crisis on Infinite Earths & Flashpoint are the actual reboots. It's that simple.
