She wouldn't let Mei go to the concert because she's unreasonably afraid of her daughter's emerging sexuality and just how she's growing up in general (and of course she's not going to tell Mei this), so they needed to get money from somewhere else. You WERE supposed to guffaw at Mei going "my body my choice" not because she's wrong, but because her saying that is an unintended overreaction to her mom's actions but she has no other way to express her frustration.>The mother who locked away her panda , was she denying or her culture or was she sexually repressed?Like I said above, the panda is kind of whatever you see it as. Remember the mom basically eloped with the dad who her family didn't like. So for her specifically I'd say the panda represented "imperfection" and the mom being afraid of it. Which tracks because she was actually from and grew up in China, while Mei grew up in Canada.

And the character designs are all uniform with every character being the same but instantly recognizable. They easily translate into merch. Meanwhile MW characters all look like they could be from a different show. Usually in shows like these you add a human main character that people can relate to, but instead Zeurel chose a lanky tentacle monster as his frontman. And that’s the tragic part. Zeurel is thinking like an artist (which is good) but he also needs to think like a salesman.
