Making an anthology movie based on an anthology magazine is...I wanted to say genius, but honestly it's so blatantly fucking obvious that it's honestly more amazing they didn't go that route with the sequel and also probably why it failed

The problem is Paramount is ran by one of the worst kinds of CEOs you can have which current markets incentivize.
>GROWTH GROWTH GROWTH! MAXIMIZE SHAREHOLDER VALUE! LOOK AT HOW BIG I MADE THE COMPANY!
And the problem is that growth is always fueled by an unsustainable amount of debt that profit margins can't cover and the only thing they can do is to gut things and boil the frog hoping the crowd doesn't notice.

For a time, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi was Cartoon Network's biggest hit, being the next Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab in terms of how much of a craze it was, yet despite this, the craze stopped less than 2 years later. Just months after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day float, the two DVDs coming out, a toyline being released, and having a GBA game, the show was canned with 5 episodes unaired in the states. The last thing ever made for the show were costumes which were released in October 2006, but were being made months prior and by the time those were released, Cartoon Network stopped airing it period

I'd compare it to how CatDog was a craze with how it was everywhere back then along with Rugrats and yet, despite that, CatDog stopped at just 68 episodes, but atleast CatDog reran on Nick til like 2005, while Puffy was dropped less than 2 years after it came out

Oh, and how did Invader Zim not even get to the 52 episode minimum either? That show was huge back in the day. It had a huge fanbase and yet, it had half of the minimum amount for syndication. It never got to 52/65/78 episodes

To my knowledge they were pretty big, sort of "always on the scene but never totally dominated it" level of popularity.
This discussion needs to be framed to one thing. This was pre AKB48, that is important. Idols were just celebrities back then compared to the almost cultish followings they have now, but here's the thing

This is a 30 something revival take on a cover of a western anniversary song done by a Japanese idol who was basically pulled from semi-retirement to do it.
And it was a fucking hit even with younger Japanese crowds at the time
It is super easy to fuck up stardom in Japan but they will gladly keep you around as you age. It's one of their most weirdly consistent traits for people, IPs, technologies, whatever. They refuse to let things die. They were non-ceremonially wearing kimono and geta into the 70s and 80s.
So I wouldn't be surprised if those two are just living comfy lives on royalties and popping up when they feel like saying "hey" these days.
>>
>>152125800
Actually I take it back. I forgot they didn't keep traditional animation methods alive for the switch to digital in the late 90s. Hideaki Anno even said it was a bitch just getting the equipment for a scene in Rebirth of Evangelion which is insane when you remember these are the people who can preserve samurai swords for over half a millennia and went out of their way to preserve all the technological antiques from the meiji era
>>
I remember thinking the show decent but never one of my favorites. I don’t remember any of my friends ever talking about it, so I never thought it was one of the most popular cartoons. Maybe that’s because me and my friends were guys and didn’t want admit to watching a girly show.

Batman is meant to be a gritty noir detective and a dark, shadowy creature of the night, instilling fear into superstitious and cowardly criminals. NOTHING ABOUT HIM IS SUPPOSED TO BE "FUN", BOOMTARDS. You want "Fun Batman"? That's what Green Arrow is for.

>Alex: When your brother died and your Mother said, “How could he do this to me?” did she start leaning on you for more attention?

>Robert: No, she didn’t actually. She was so untogether, she just became a recluse in her house. I remember one time when I was visiting there, visiting her after my brother died, going through my brothers stuff and seeing what I wanted to take before it all went to the dump. They had piles and piles of books and some second-hand bookdealer came out and took all those. It was pretty morbid. Anyway, while I was there these Catholic do-gooders came over there. I guess they knew about her because she had been a Catholic. And they were being real solicitous and talking to her, and they wanted to help her, and this grey-haired distinguished older looking man took her by both hands and said, “You have to meet with Father so-and-so” I forget the name of the priest, “he’s such a nice man and he really wants to come over here and help you and he’s really a nice man.” And my mother kind of looked aside and said, “Yeah, that’s yet to be seen.” That’s how she was. She became more and more resistant to everybody.

>The last time I saw her at the Fair Acres Geriatrics Center, she was really afraid of dying. She told me they were trying to kill her in that place. She said, “Robert you’ve got to get me out, they are trying to kill me!” and I said, “I really don’t think they are trying to kill you.” But now I think maybe she was right. Maybe I’m getting more paranoid in my old age. But anyway, I said, when she started talking about being afraid of dying, I said, “Maybe you should think about God, maybe death isn’t the end. Think about God.” And she said to me, “Ah, I don’t want to hear that crap.” [laughs]

The movie left out A LOT, and these interviews dig down even deeper. The stuff with Crumb's dad and the supposed chinese curse is heartbreaking.

Anyone else find the single green squeeze toy alien from the first Toy Story to be an interesting character? On top of the fact that it was dark as fuck to see this innocent, naive toy who suffered delusions of grandeur much like Buzz only to have his faith and body destroyed in much more graphic detail than the space ranger did, my theory is that that there is an alternate timeline where he did, in fact, make it out of Sid's house to join Woody and Buzz.

>But his role was to be a red shirt to show off how much of a threat Scud was!
>But he would have been an awkward third wheel who would have gotten in the way of Woody and Buzz's development.
For the first argument, there is no reason he couldn't serve that role while also becoming a main character. Second, he could have easily gone in the opposite direction of Buzz where he doubles down in his belief that "the claw" is punishing or testing him which would have the effect of letting him fulfill the role his three replacements in 2 had (hell, there could have been only two of them instead of three to form the trio) AND it would have made his triumphant moment in 3 all the more powerful.
