There's a couple things that align I think. It's set up as a simple fantasy show (boy who goes on adventures with a talking dog, there's a princess too) but it also appeals to adults.Because it started in 2008 and lasted 10 years, there's a gradual liberalisation as the 2010s of millennial writing / 'kidadults' kicks in. You get the gradual deconstruction of a SWM protagonist, then all the lgbtlmnop messaging. Because the fandom is autistic women and millennials, that messaging collects into a sump over time, and you end up with something like Fionna and Cake. It's hard to explain but it's a kind of entropy or inertia that worsens as those kinds of people get in one place and start writing shows. That rot is similar to MLP but maybe worse because it never had that Tumblr lib audience. I think Adventure Time sort of encapsulates that millennialcore attitude of the 2010s, just getting more cynical and bogged down in certain cultural messaging. So you end up with a 30-something woman-child who's aimless and wasted 1/3 of her life on irrelevant fandom bullshit. The ukelele seals it as a 'millennial anthem' in a sense.I think the simpler, happy animation also means that more insane people latch onto it. This harkens back to creepypasta where a media series with cutesy animation can mask real pain and dashed dreams.This sounds like a hot take but I don't think bronies were as bad in some ways. MLP had autism but it was never as bad with the 'gender people' despite lasting till the entire 2010s until '19. It feels like an anomaly in that sense.

There is one artist that draws Spider-man in a very realistic artstyle, with a proper costume parts segregation and webshooters being visible. The fabric twists and shifts, so sometimes his torso is a bit exposed, sometimes the belt becomes visible. And it looks like coolest shit ever, the only problem are the eyes - I think they're a bit too small and are too far apart. I wish someone would try to adapt this kind of costume, instead of a fully body costume.
