Joey Cavalieri is probably best known for co-creating Helena Bertinelli and being group editor for the Marvel 2099 line. He's got a PFA in Media Arts at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, which he's now a teacher at, so good on him for paying it forward.

Frank Springer got his big break as an art assistant to George Wunder on Terry and the Pirates after Milt Caniff left, then worked on a bunch of Dell Comics titles in the 60s, and would later go on to co-create the original Secret Six.

December 24th is here, Christmas Eve! And the day for all the Christmas Eve-related celebrations across the world. Also Libya's Independence Day.
As for the reading, it's a direct sequel to yesterday's (>>146868555), because once Zachary was allowed to speak again, he just wouldn't shut up. Of course, being filled with the Holy Spirit, he started prophesizing instead of just randomly rambling, announcing that the time of the coming of the Lord is nigh, and his own son will be the Prophet destined to make way for him.

If Wynaut pops in, your gift should arrive on Friday, please keep an eye out. Assuming the thread is still up, I'll update if Bezolandia gives one closer to the date.

If Santaseid pops in, your gift was left in a parcel locker on the 14th, so I assume you got it.

If Khantest pops by, your wrapped item "was left near the front door or porch" also on the 14th, so hopefully you got it.

I do think the tooth from that calendar might be my favorite overall item either of them have received from any calendar. The Brio calendar is the biggest disappointment because it should have easily been the best of the lot when it's barely any better than the doctor's kit.
>>
Quite literally just in time for Christmas, that David Revoy comic I keep mentioning.
I'll do my rambling on it all in here: This is from a comic advent calendar published this year by Le Lombard, the publishers of Tintin and The Smurfs. Basically, it's comic with the pages glued, and you're expected to cut them open in the days leading to Christmas. However it was only published in French, with Davids comic being the only one translated.

This has not been story-timed in a few years and I cleaned it up earlier this year, from a fresh scan just for these threads, so enjoy one of the earliest 'official mainline canon' DC holiday stories from the Golden Age in 1947's Adventure Comics.

This is going to be a very GA story, none of the wackiness of the silver ages and none of the simple slice of life of 1970s-1980s holiday stories.

The pencils were by John Sikela, in Ohio, one of the earliest ghosts for Joe in their assembly line "Superman" workshop.

CURRENTLY STREAMING: Inspector Gadget

https://vaughn.live/sheol_uk

Merry Christmas one and all. This'll be my final post. The stream will be running until the day after boxing day when it'll be taken down. If you've dropped in and chilled out, then I hope it's provided you a small measure of comfy in this rather crazy holiday season.

For me, I think it's safe to say my cheer has taken one hell of a beating. After shaking off whatever flying aids I, and the wife and kid caught, my hob decided to blow on me. Being that Christmas dinner was to be at ours, shit has kind of hit the fan.

That aside, I wish you all a very merry Christmas whatever you get up to, whoever you are or are not with. If your plans have gone awry like mine, take the time to make it how you want it. Catch up on a movie, eat junk, drink some, do that thing you've put off, go for a walk. Whatever you're up to, enjoy yourself.

This is the end of Life Story though. He also wrote the 'Jonah Finds Out' storyline which was great, and then when his run of Peter Parker; Spider-Man ended up needing one extra issue he wrote an award winning stand alone issue that was wholesome and heart wrenching as fuck. He can write good stuff. He has written a lot of good stuff. Just like how Slott wrote some of the best spider-man stuff before he ever got on the book full time (Check out the Spider-man/Human Torch mini he wrote). Comics writers are often bodied by deadlines and editors and other circumstances. He's doing decent stuff on Daredevil and his Public Domain series is really good too. Any jobbing artist has good days and bad I guess. I can't judge his bats stuff too harshly because it's honestly hardly anything when it comes to his body of work. If he had mostly put out stinkers maybe I'd agree. But so far most of his stuff has been above average with a few moments of greatness.

TONIGHT ON THE ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS STREAM

The party isn’t over yet. Now, the grand finale of Christmas Eve begins with two back to back classics. First, the yearly visit of Rankin/Bass’ Frosty the Snowman, and then Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang ponder the true meaning of Christmas.
Our first main show is short, but sweet, a certified Christmas Cheer classic, about a dog who doesn’t act very much like a dog. In fact, she may very well be a reindeer, and if that’s the case, she is Santa’s best hope of saving Christmas. She is OLIVE, THE OTHER REINDEER.
Next, the Muppets take center stage with one of the definitive adaptations of Charles Dickens’ classic. Learn the true spirit of Christmas through the eyes of the stingy Ebenezer Scrooge, portrayed this time by the remarkable Michael Caine, as he is forced to learn the hard way by a trio of ethereal Muppet ghosts in THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL!
In our late show, the sinister Grinch returns, this time in the original Chuck Jones cartoon classic, and then the stream closes with the ethereal and beautiful flight of Raymond Briggs’ Snowman.
Oh wait, did I say the stream would end there? WRONG. Following this, a special encore featuring my favorite Christmas special, a little ditty featuring Opus and Bill of the comic strip Bloom County, followed by the animated king of both Spooktober and Christmas Cheer, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

So this person believes that Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Silence of the Lambs, The Hills Have Eyes, and Scream aren't horror movies. What a weird take.

Hey Everyone. Merry Christmas to all /co/mrades!
The trip the coast to see my side of the family was cut short because my father-in-law had some emergency surgery while we were out. This caused us to leave 4 days early and make the 15 hour drive all in 1 day to make it to the hospital asap as possible. Her dad is not doing well, but her siblings were happy to see us. My family up north understands, and we were surprising them up there anyway, so they werent even expecting us.
Overall a very strange and unfortunate Christmas for my crew. Don't know what the in-laws will decide to do with their dad, but I am here to support them. Sometimes being an adult isn't fun, and other times it's just dreadful. Been on the road for longer than we were even able to visit with family due tot he about-face we took back home. Gonna catch up with the thread and read some comics and try to make the best of things.
also i'm not sure if a package has been delivered by Ms Marvel or not, since ive been away from home since Friday. Not sure if she is still posting in these threads or not

Yeah, several of them, in my native language. I could tell something was wrong though, Pratchett's writing is so loaded with puns, or plays on words, that the best translator wouldn't be able to do it justice.
Not to mention we don't actually have a distinction between monkeys and apes (closest would be "monkey" and "manlike monkey").

The Awaited Day is finally here (and it actually might be already over in places hugging the International Date Line): December 25th, Christmas Day. Hopefully despite all that has happened to anons and namefriends alike in this past month both on this board and in real life (some of it recently), you can still find it within yourself to cheer.
Today's reading is the very start of the Gospel of John. Obviously, given the day, it's about the birth of Christ, but knowing Johnny Boy's talent for obfuscation, you can bet it's not a straight-forward depiction. No manger, no Bethlehem, no shepherds or little drummer boys, certainly no wise men (those only show up at Matt's)... Just the Word (once again) given flesh and dwelling among us. And John the Baptist hyping Him up, as was his destiny.

So this is how my poppyseed rolls ended up. The glaze also ended up concentrating in the ass-cracks, but other than barely resembling a swirl like they ought to, the inside doesn't look bad at all. Doesn't taste bad, either.
And for those wondering, the one on the left uses white poppyseed paste for the filling. Which has a "milder" taste than the black/blue poppyseed you might be familiar with, but it also tastes like the producer pumped it full of vanilla extract.

I am debating going to go see that, which means going to the Netflix theater, which is not a good location to go on a Holiday since my friends will be lame and won't give me a ride back home (as it's 'in the opposite direction') and Flow is right there, as are a few other options. We had all agreed on Kravan but almost all the showings are like 9/10 pm.
Boy did it really bomb to end up with one showing a night.

I'm not sure I'm in the mood for Flow, though.

He was a great guy. His family loves him a ton. He worked super hard to try to give his senpai a good life, and after retirement was always trying to live it up. Bringing grandkids on cruises and taking his wife to concerts. Heck, he even met up with my wife a few years ago to see My Chemical Romance. Fun loving guy who was kooky in some of the best ways. I remember when I first started dating my wife, he was grilling her about me. "I didn't know people still read Archies! I thought they stopped making those back in the 80s!" We often exchanged zingers back and forth and I know he appreciated the corny puns I would come up with, even if they were met with eye-rolls and facepalms
Thank you for the well wishes everyone. Going to try to get some reading in while my wife takes a nap. We might have some more in-laws over later today to be together and eat chinese food.

TONIGHT, ON THE FINAL CHRISTMAS STREAM
It’s Christmas Day! And now that most of us are finished celebrating with family, we have one last treat for you all. First, today is also the first night of Hanukkah, so we can begin by celebrating this occasion the Rugrats way. A baby’s gotta do what a baby’s gotta do. Next…well, I can’t exactly talk about this one, but it was demanded of me to stream it, so fuck it.
Our main show is a new tradition I started last year, a two-part motion picture epic adapted from the incredible Discworld of Terry Pratchett’s works. The HOGFATHER, a figure akin to our own Santa Claus, has gone missing, and Death himself must take up the mantle in order to protect the world, while his granddaughter, Susan Sto Helit, investigates the sinister forces behind vanishing.
To conclude our time together, first is a recent, but deeply cherished favorite of mine, a tale from Jim Henson and the Muppet performers about the living toys that secretly watch as Christmas Eve brings forth new toys and challenges. And finally, why not squeeze in one last adaptation of Dickens’ Christmas Carol? This time, it’s the short, but sweet adventure of Ebeneezer Scrooge and Bob Cratchit, performed by Scrooge McDuck and Mickey Mouse.
Merry Christmas to all, and I hope you enjoy!

To all of you my most heartfelt condolences. I sincerely hope that these dates will unite you even more in these moments of mourning and that it'll be transitory, to give way to the warmth that this holiday means.
>>
>>146880219
It's really hard for me to believe that we are already at Christmas; And it's not a complaint or a desire to be grumpy, but I didn't even sense the feeling of the season to be in tune, in addition to pending things that I wanted to finish before said date to be with more freedom to joinin' the joy and decorate at time... But as they have said out there : "There is no better gift than the present..."

I can only symathize with the sentiment of condolences, is never great to have times like these that are "supposedly" jolly and be reminded of a loss, in the cases things like that have happened to me I try to stay merry not trying to replace those that have gone further than us, but to remember them in joy not in sorrow, hope times dont get much more dire and hugs all around for those close to him and to you.

>>146896096

I gifted them a while back and mostly want to know if they received the gift since it has been over a week now, I think, that it arrived? There's three people I am waiting on and Wynaut is getting something late - it still says "Friday" but also says it isn't out for delivery so I assume it won't get updated till tomorrow.

I would suspect possibly porch pirates in your case, in which hopefully Khantest can ask for a refund and regift you? I know I did that for someone who hadn't bothered to update their address.

You know if you have moved, even if you have received stuff from Crapazom, they expect you to manually go and ALSO update the address on a WISHLIST. Seems like a stupid thing their engineers and coders could easily fix, but what can you do.

IIRC, you weren't a contest winner, Khantest just randomly gifted you when they dropped by that same day? Or as a Riddler match?

Really appreciate the streams man. I usually end up missing the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day streams because of irl stuff, but I got to watch a bit more of them than normal this year at least. Some of those bumpers you add in get me kinda sentimental too, like that one with the lights on the bridge in Japan, and the finale good night one with that somber music. It sucks the holiday has to come to an end so soon, but the streams and these threads really do help make the season brighter for me.

From the bottom of my heart, Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you all! Godspeed to you guys in this coming year, and I hope to see everyone next year!

I believe it's available on the BBC iPlayer if you want to watch it legally.
Although I'm not sure how that works outside the UK.
>>
>>146899303
You cannot watch iPlayer outside the BCC territory. I always want to watch the Glastonbury (and other concerts) and you gotta wait for someone to port it to a bootleg site or YT.

I saw Paddington in Panama on a stream site but it had these weird built-in captions that were effing annoying annoying and then, on a different site, I saw that these were cam rips.

December 26th, Boxing Day is the Second Day of Christmas (the Two Turtledoves kind), but it's also Saint Stephen Day.
Steve being one of the first deacons of Christianity and holding the dubious honor of being the very first Christian martyr, stoned to death by Israelites for his teachings - and also talking shit doing his trial. As presented by the rare reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
Which synergizes "nicely" with the reading from the Gospel, where Jesus warns his followers they'll be hated by everyone.
And here's a bit of continuity, one of the people present at the execution was Saul of Tarsus, who would later convert and become Saint Paul, who wrote most of the Epistles. The conversion, by the way, would be completely unrelated to Steve's death, so I can't even say he got fridged.
And to add even more insult to injury, stones are one of Stephen's attributes as a saint and he's commonly depicted with a handful of rocks in iconography. It's like if all of Christianity in general used a cross as their symb... oh.

>>146904176
So wait........ is that your work?
>>
>>146903467
The new 15 minute clock and other crap they have changed is also doing some other crap when you story-time (at least to me) that if you link or do too many bulk replies (e.g. come back after being gone all day and write a long post replying to say 5 or more other posts), you start getting these "you have to wait a while before doing this again." I'm also sometimes being asked to "prove I'm human" if my laptop goes to sleep.

And no, I don't take it as an attack, doing this is an older form of story-timing, not everyone does it, but it's sometimes I've always done. Also, doing the page numbering so people know how many images, which is good for folks who want to post an image to know how much longer to wait, etc. Again, it's just an older convention of mine, not too many other people do that.

i flipped through my town's several christmas stations for multiple hours of listening over the past month, and i didnt hear a single one of them play
>grandma got run over by a reindeer
>good king wenceslas
>baby it's cold outside
>little drummer boy by david bowie and bing crosby

but on the bright side, i didnt hear any of them play 'hallelujah' as covered by the pentatonix. that shit was getting a ton of play last year and it aint even a christmas song
also good news to not hear 'christmas wrapping' by the waitresses. that song sucks ass, yet in the past it seemed like a favorite for some local dj

and as for songs i heard this year but hadnt heard before, there was
>one little christmas tree by stevie wonder
>hey santa! by carnie and wendy wilson
>white christmas by meghan trainor and seth macfarlane

December 27th, the Third Day of Christmas (or Three French Hen Day) is also the Feast of John the Apostle. Which is perfect for today's reading (from John, appropriately), which jumps straight to the end of the Gospels, to the morning of Easter Sunday. And even more specifically, that time when - informed by Mary Magdalene that the body of Christ disappeared from the tomb - Saint Peter and The One Jesus Loved™ ran there to check themselves. And John made sure to point out that this Unnamed Apostle That Jesus Loved And Who Seems Like A Pretty Cool Guy Overall, And Handsome Too managed to outrun Pete to the tomb. Or rather "sepulchre". At least Pete was the one who had the balls to actually look inside to find the empty shroud.

The 6th is a good end date since the 5th is the last day of Christmas. You'd be surprised how few people know that despite the ubiquity of the song. Hell, like I've said before, Christmas isn't long enough, really. People really start to lose it around February. It's because you took down all the lights, forgot to keep having seasonal treats, and stopped nursing tidings of comfort and joy to keep the cold and the dark at bay while it's still graying and browning the world.

I guess that's why I'm kinda sorta leaning to the Biblical interpretation - like I said, I'm not super-religious (I literally haven't stepped in a church in years) but part of me does see the appeal in "Jesus will stop all the bullshit and take me and my pals away so we can all vibe with his pals"

At the very least, I have enough of an ego that I think all of my good deeds will outweigh my sins and all of that shit.

I have a few pointers for you, anon:
>aside from Were Rabbit and MAYBE the newest one, all W&G material was made in 25fps, so you are better off seeking UK Bluray releases that are 50i (25p is sometimes not recognized by players even in Europe so it's almost never used, and 50i trick is used instead)
>one of the original shorts is cropped to be widescreen on all Bluray releases, so I recommend seeking the UK/AU PAL DVDs of the first 3 (PAL has a higher resolution than NTSC plus it was made in 25fps anyway)
>there is some music replacement for copyright BS over the years, so I am twice recommending you to get the UK/AU PAL DVDs of the first 3 shorts
>basically get the "complete" Bluray from 2009 or so, from the UK, and the earlier PAL DVD for the original short trilogy, also from the UK or Australia
Might be a letdown to get a BD and DVD that are region B and region 2 respectfully, but if you want the best and least censored versions of EVERYTHING, that is the best option.
