TONIGHT ON A NOT SO SPOOKY CHRISTMAS STREAMChristmas brings calm and happy times to many. To others, it brings nonstop action, like the kinds we’ll see in tonight’s stream! First, a holiday cheese theft forces superheroine Word Girl into action, and then, Prep and Landing agents Lanny and Wayne return to stop a hacker from destroying the naughty and nice lists. Our first movie isn’t anything new, but it’s one of my favorite, favorite, FAVORITE movies to watch, both for Christmas, and with my friends, and so I find any excuse to stream it. You know the story, a skyscraper held hostage on Christmas Eve by petty and elaborate bandits, and only one man, a cop on vacation for his family, can stop it. The original, immortal, DIE HARD.Next, and perhaps this is an even bigger technicality, but who cares, I wanna watch it. Two detectives, one with the experience, and one with the edge, are forced to spend the holidays working together to investigate an increasingly dangerous case in the classic LETHAL WEAPON.To begin the late show, the legends have proven themselves to be true…RoboCop saves Christmas. Then, a trip into the Twilight Zone leads us to meet a group of very different people trapped in a strange imprisonment together…Lastly, to wind down for the night, allow me to more properly introduce REAL CHEERY pictures. In Spooktober, we saved the scariest or strangest movies of ours for midnight showings. This season, we’re doing the same thing, but for some of the oldest cinema classics of Christmas, including tonight’s musical event, WHITE CHRISTMAS!Stream Link: cy(delete this part)tu(DOT)be(slash)r(slash)SkeletalStreamer

>>151596945Friday morning I got a text message claiming a package I've been waiting for would come in that day (it didn't but at least I've found out that since getting recharged and re-installed, my Ring camera started catching local free-roaming cats strolling around), and my visit to a local mail depot this morning ended in disappointment because they closed down early due to staff shortage. But a few hours later I got the package after all - I guess since it was from overseas it took a bit longer to process, and the automatically-sent message didn't account for that. So that's squared off, at least.

Tonight I saw:>The Year Without a Santa ClausThe funniest of the main five Rankin-Bass specials, and so far better music and a better cast. I feel they handled Santa better here than in Rudolph, the Bells and the Misers are great. "I Believe in Santa Claus" may be the best song of the RB specials, it's so sweet and genuinely moving. Gonna be honest this is my least favorite of the five but that's only in the sense that it's the one that clicks least for me, it's still worth watching generally.>A Garfield ChristmasOh, BOY is this one a hyped one on the site, and I'm not surprised. It's comfykino. It's pretty funny when it wants to be. It's...surprisingly powerful? Yeah, a GARFIELD animation has emotional weight. There's a genuine pit to feel seeing the family truly appreciate the holiday in their celebration, as we look back on when our families did similarly. When the magic was there, not exactly lost, but more...y'know...THERE. And who can forget Grandma confiding in Garfield on her late husband in the night. I always fall silent during this scene. Pat Caroll's acting is amazing (RIP), you really feel that loss in her voice. Again, can't believe Garfield pulled some genuine spirit, but here we are.>Will Vinton's Claymation Christmas CelebrationTHE REAL KINO OF THE NIGHT. Saw this for the first time last year. Was stunned the whole way through, giddy as a schoolboy, and I had just as amazing a time this year as well. Such fluid stop-motion animation, simple but extremely effective humor, and some of the best takes on some Christmas classics. Grooving along to We Three Kings, sharing a cozy anticipation of the holidays with O Christmas Tree, marveling at the paint animation in Joy to the World, having ANOTHER groove with the California Raisins take on Rudolph. It's a glorious half hour waffl-er, wadd...wallow...WASSAIL! There we go!Actual 10/10 must watch, no joke.See ya next night.

I need to stretch the definition of "national celebration" again for December 7th, which is Memorial Day in Timor-Leste (also Spitak Remembrance Day in Armenia, but out of the two, I think the day of mourning for people lost in a cataclysmic earthquake is even less of a good idea to use as a segue into talking about Christmas celebrations).Unfortunately, there's not much I've found about Christmas in East Timor, partially because it's still a young and struggling country. In recent years, their government jumped in to help out the citizenry with Christmas-themed events - a contest for the best Nativity scene (with separate categories for kids and adults), as well as "Natal ba Povu", "Christmas of the People", where the president brings gifts to the most affected in the community - widows, orphans and people with special needs.Families and friends gather on Christmas Eve, sometime in the afternoon, for some chilling and decorating (apparently some suburbs pick a single house to be the hub of the celebration, although I've only found one Facebook post mentioning it), then, around 9PM, everybody goes to the Christmas Mass, in their best clothes. The mass can last up to three hours, filled not only with reading of scripture and hymns, but also plays about Jesus, and people will line up to kiss a statue of Baby J.Afterwards it's time to go back home for the feast and opening of presents. The feast itself is a mix of influences from both their larger "neighbors" and countries that used to occupy the island. There's Tukir - a goat (or lamb) stew made in bamboo - katupa (rice cakes stuffed in woven banana-leaf pouch and cooked in coconut milk, pic related), sweet and sour eggplant, satay and grilled fish. And since it's another tropical country, a lot of people go to the beach on Christmas Day.
https://archive.org/details/claymationchristmas480pSkeletal, do NOT use this. I made a mistake. The idea of seeing the original airing sounds interesting, but the quality of the video is not very good, and I say this having tested it out ON A 4:3 TV! Some scenes are even missing.Sorry about that.

TONIGHT ON A NOT SO SPOOKY CHRISTMAS STREAMAfter such a lengthy stream last night, it’s time to wind down with something easier, but no less joyful and amusing. First, from the Claymation works of Will Vinton, a simple, but beautiful Christmas shared between a boy and an elderly woman. Then, Jake Long, desperate to avoid his family’s “lame” traditions, spends the holidays trying to rescue a baby sasquatch. Our sole movie tonight involves a botched heist on Christmas Eve, in which a master thief is forced to take two hostages in order to make his getaway. Of course, he had to pick the two biggest pains in the ass in town, a bickering couple who are soon to be joined by their even more horrid relatives. If this crook has any chance of getting a clean escape, he has no choice but to take up the role of THE REF.In the late show, we start with a forgotten Christmas special that is, quite ironically, about a Christmas that a group of puppet pals are slowly being forced to forget. Then, we conclude with the newest installment of Prep and Landing, in which Lanny and Wayne what may be their biggest blunders yet.Stream Link: cy(delete this part)tu(DOT)be(slash)r(slash)SkeletalStreamer

Tonight, I saw:>A Christmas GiftWill Vinton with another win up here. A smaller one, but a win regardless. It's short and very simple, but still very sweet. I like how Will does humans, it stands out more. It's interesting seeing pre-Noid Vinton compared to after. Such different vibes despite being the same guy.Two modern specials next, and two that prove that the 2020s still provide good animation.>Prep and Landing: The Snowball ProtocolWorthy sequel to the great original. Very funny, good animation, and a good message at the heart of it just like the first one. I'll admit though I wish they did more spy stuff like the original. I think this honestly has better writing so combined with the action of the original this really could've went somewhere. That said, it still hits.>Mog's ChristmasSaw this in 2023 when it first came out and had a ball! It's so sweet and comfy and fun. The Thomas family has such a good relationship with one another and they're written so genuinely and real. I love the art and animation in this one, it feels like a grand evolution of the 80s and 90s when many picture books got short films and most had that picture book style. Honestly I'd watch a full Mog series. I recommend you check this out, even people who think Halloween mogs Christmas will love Mog's Christmas.See ya next night!
>>151616177Had the exact same idea. Here's my input:>The Christmas Tree>Star Wars Holiday Special>A Wobots Christmas>Mee Christmas>Sentimental Journeys: My Christmas AdventureThose last three were featured on a Xmas edition of Vinny's Wheel of the Weird. The first and third one are more campy than bad, but Mee Christmas is an actual trainwreck that you have to see to believe.

Temperature here got to 11 degrees Celsius, and the sun came out. So no way am I seeing any snow in the foreseeable future, but after the last few days of rain and grey the grass is vibrant (as are whatever leaves are still left on trees and shrubs) and Vitamin D is flowing, so I take it as a win.
>>151621358Someone argued that we are shitting up the catalog because those threads don't sage/leave, and that we should NOT be posting reaction and similar images over there because folks won't be able to show what came, when we do hit a bump limit. They also pointed out that if Mister Enigma shows up in a few days, that also requires a lot of images, since he requires proof posting.>>151621368>WHY.pngThat is the questionShould we go to Thread Two?No clue what the image limit but feels like it's only 150 or so. Here’s my Christmas display.
December 8th is Romanian Constitution Day, celebrating the country's shift to modern democracy in 1991, after the fall of communism. Same goes for Uzbekistan, although it's one year later in their case. But we're staying with Romanians.Interestingly, despite the vast majority of the country being Orthodox, they follow the Gregorian calendar, so they celebrate Christmas on the same day Catholic and Protestant countries do. Before that though, they go hardcore on the Advent, not just going for four Sundays - it starts November 14th, lasts 40 days and requires abstinence from animal-sourced foods. That's right, they go full vegan (also no oil) for more than a month before Christmas, although there are a few days when the fast is relaxed: St. Andrew Day, for one, partially because he's Romania's patron saint (just like Scotland's), partially because there has to be a party to keep the evil spirits away. Another is St. Nicholas Day, when the kiddies get some sweets from Old Man Nick. And then there's December 20th, St. Ingatius Day or Ignat Day, when traditionally a pig gets slaughtered for the Christmas feast, and a dish called "Pomana Porcului" ("Pig's charity") is prepared out of bits and pieces of pork.So obviously the Christmas Eve feast is pork-focused. Steaks, chops, cutlets, sausages, stuffed cabbage, bits in jello, you name it. A bit surprising that there's none in the desserts (unless they have gelatin): Lamaita, Albinita, Krantz (different from the Jewish one), they even have cake named after Greta Garbo.I don't talk much about carolers, since they're all over the world, really. But in Romania, especially in some regions, there's also Dubasi, groups of unmarried men going around caroling with drums. And they're also often accompanied by people dressed in goat (Capra) or bear (Ursul) costumes, dancing to welcome spring and good fortune. They go around dancing until New Year, too.Incidentally, the director of "It's a Wonderful Life" was named Franz Capra.

I've bought the anon other things but two are small LEGO 3+1s - insects that will go with his other tastes for model kits, plus more, so he should have no complaints. December 9th is Russia's Fatherland Defenders Day, a recent tradition, only 18 years old, but it is a tradition nonetheless. Also supposed to be a new version of an old, Tsarist Russia holiday of similar nature. But we're not talking about that, nor National Heroes Day on Antigua and Barbuda, but rather Independence Day in Tanzania - specifically the Independence of Tanganyika in 1961, which formed the country we now know after merging with Zanzibar in 1964.Funny thing is, there doesn't seem to be much about their Christmas traditions on the Internet - one article compiling African traditions even claimed they celebrate Kwanzaa (hint: they don't). Just goes to show you how widespread hallucinating LLMs have become. What I *have* found out is mostly about specifically preparing for Christmas - families will oftentimes buy a cow - or a goat - all the way back in January just to fatten it up ad butcher it for the Christmas feast (assumedly in the rural parts). They also brew they own beer, commonly from bananas, so it can flow freely during the holiday. The Christian majority attends church - in new clothes if possible - in the morning on Christmas Day (although I've seen mention of Midnight Mass as well), which is followed by the feast. Outside of the aforementioned farm animal, a common sight on the Christmas dinner table are ugali maize porridge, pilau rice and chapati flatbread, maybe kashanta and vitumbua for dessert. Other than that, the spread depends on the region - apparently, in coastal communities it's heavier on seafood, while inland and highlands prefer meat.Christmas is, obviously, a communal affair - and people traveling to see their families are a common sight. No wonder though - celebrations last from Christmas Day all the way until New Year's, with parties, dances, soccer matches etc. spread all over the week. There's even a lot of weddings taking place.

December 10th, we're in double digits now! Sweden celebrates Alfred Nobel Day (not his birthday, just the day of the Nobel Prize ceremony), but more importantly, it's Constitution Day in Thailand."Unfortunately", much like their neighbor Laos (see December 2nd, >>151532741), the vast majority of the population is Buddhist, with only about 1.5-2% (depending on sources) Christian, so Christmas isn't really big. Sure, they'll throw out some festive decorations for the tourists, but the day isn't even a holiday. But at least the largest Christian congregation in Tha Rae has their Christmas Star Parade. And assumedly the about quarter million Hmong people share the traditions of their Laotian brethren. There's one important holiday in December though: King Rama IX's birthday (as off-handedly mentioned here: >>151575259), even now, nine years after his death, since his 70-year-long reign has been a constant in many Thais lives. Also he might've been well-liked, although it's hard to say because of the "can't complain" rule regarding royalty. It's a national holiday, free of work. You'll find religious ceremonies around the country, alms-giving and teachings, as well as activities at the Rama IX Golden Jubilee Temple in Bangkok, teaching about the late king's life and achievements. And since he's been thought of as a father to the country, December 5th is also Father's Day. Model fathers are recognized with official plaques (as do mothers on August 12th), and dads with children can use Bangkok's public transport for free.Thai also celebrate New Year on January 1st (alongside Chinese New Year and their own Songkran in April. They just like to party). Featuring the release of khom loy lanterns and visits to Buddhist temples to gain merit by touching the sai sin - freshly woven white thread connected to the Buddha statue (they haven't gone wireless yet).>>151639257Sup, Eddie. >>151652148So he seems fine but theyre keeping him there to keep an eye in him.Hopefully things are fine. Also if they're here I hope the anon who lost his father in law on christmas day had a better year.
>>151653111Barks always had this amazing sense of scale in his art
>>151652148>>151653290Hope it goes okay, Anon. And don't worry about venting, you're in a shitty situation.
Somebody mentioned the cartoon that adapted this graphic novel, so I thought it'd be fun to post it
Some clever person decided to go through my you know what list and mark everything there as "purchased somewhere else"I double-checked the pastebin and there's at least two other empty ones - possibly more?
>>151653290Worst case scenario is he winds up in here one Christmas in the future.

>>151652828Didn't we already storytime this?
>>151654470Whoops! Turns out somebody posted it back in the weekend before December started. My bad.
>>151644670Poor things..>>151650045Pic for you.
>>151654106Double-checked all the dot com's only - none relatives of Kim, we hope - and it was only three with problems and if people go check either the first or the new companion thread, you can see if it's you. Every other dot com list has SOMETHING on it but that doesn't mean it wasn't partially Effed with - up to you if you want to check.I don't have time today to check the nine foreign ones and won't be able to until late tonight or maybe even tomorrow. I've got a hard deadline staring me in the face right now. >>151650358Also, something is weird with another, Bezolandia claims 404/file not found - I referenced you over there and when I have time, if y'all haven't resolved (so please reply there/here if y'all do so I don't waste time), I'll try to see if it can be readily cleared up. I think someone made a mistake when transposing numbers manually from Place A to Place B. And it must have happened on Monday or Tuesday while I was dead to the world and not elusive-checking things.
I'mma post this, because Madman fucking rocks.
Don't worry, this'll get more Christmassy soon enough
>>151654830There we go. It really is the little things sometimes.
New thread!>>151656315
