I think you would probably want to move closer to a total conversion mod that can support that kind of thing while keeping DD combat. Most of the work in the mod is creating the assets anyway so I think that can probably be done later or for a future game. In general probably have a look at ST Hot Dog King's work to see what is possible without creating a custom animation for every combination of player characters and debuffs. E.g. Para Ark 2 displays a generic-ish animation for every attack and only has some minor variation between participants. And there's a new exit8-style game he's making atm where he's experimenting with a physics engine that allows you to incorporate any size asset into a scene. There's a lot you could improve, but I get that the current state of LLE is probably due to limitations of what is easy and what is hard within the constraints of DD vs a custom engine.
