How are milsup boots ?Buying deadstock army boots looks like too good of a deal. Not particularly looking into combat boots but more into service boots
>>18274932Depends.If you want something more dressy the best thing I could think of would be the US ripple sole combat boots that were issued between the 60s and 80s. They are tall but full leather and soles are low profile, so they can look a lot better in service boot sorts of roles. Also the last is really roomy if you don't like squished toes. Genesco and Ro-Search are some of the contractors.

I am thinking about trying engineer boots, but I am on the fence for a couple of choices. What would you choose for the following options?>Black or brown leather>Round toe or flat toe>If black for the leather, black edging or brown edging Black seems like the classic choice but I am not sure how well it will work with my current fits. I already have brown boots though, not sure I want another one.

>>18275690What is so special about engineer boots? I don't get it, they don't even look all that nice
>>18275417Thanks for the concise reply. The socks actually werre kind of an issue, I took my extra thick winter wool socks to prevent chafing initially, which is why they got dirty so fast as well ( its far too warm to waer those wherre Im at currently). After switching to normal socks and lacing the shoes less tightly, they are not really uncomfortable, just a bit more snug than I'd like. Even went back to the store and they offered me a to stretch the boot out for free, but other than the snugness I really like those boots so I decided against it for now. Also got my feet measured again, and it turns out my brannock is actually a lot smaller than I thought, seems Ive been wearing too large shoes for a long time ( which is why my old Chelseas go a tiny bit into clown shoe territorry apparentlly). These shoes are half a size down from my Brannock, so nothing too crazy. Also confirmed that the shoe apparently fits as it should, flex point is where it should be, theres room for my toes and I can wriggle them around freely, also the spot where its tight is outside the celastic cap and will definitely stretch. Ill see how it turns out , but I think I will definitely go true to size on my eventual next ones. As is I can wear the boot all day without any real problems, just some discomfort after a full workday of being in them but no actual pain.
Shopping around and most places don’t offer wide widths. Why? I’m convinced there isn’t a grown adult male that isn’t at least an E width.
>>18275129If it's causing pain just take it to a cobbler and get it stretched, it may fix it, it may ruin it. Best option will be to take it back to the store say you bought this and was measured there and they don't fit and you'd like a wider with.

>>18279132i don't knowjust buy a whites semi-dress
>>18279132I dunno if there's GYW boots worth a shit for $200. I think Meermin is the cheapest alright GYW boot but they're like $260.
>>18279132Maybe look for second hand at that price.
>>18279217>second handYeah, don't do this. This is how you get foot AIDS.
>>18279132>behave like a boot long enough for you to decide if boots are for youThat's what I did. Saw a guy wearing a pair of heritage boots and liked the look, decided I wanted to give them a try but wasn't sure if I'd like wearing them them or not. Went to Red Wing so I could get a pair of Blacksmiths I knew were the right fit. I wore those for 4 months before going all in and grabbing a pair of CXL Vibergs. I still use the Blacksmiths as beaters.
>>18278981It's unfortunate, but the userbase of this site has really deteriorated. There are so many people here now who are bitter about being too poor for nice things, too incompetent to do anything for themselves, and too brainwashed to appreciate anything outside of the most basic normie slop. We must push back against the tide.

What's with the Thursday hate?
>>18279617well they are < $200 boots. they don't look deformed. if they last 1-2 years at that price and don't harm people's feet I'd say they lived long enough to give their owner an idea of what the boot experience is like

Any recommendations for womens GYW chelseas for my GF (female)Black, supple leather, sleek, preferably not super polished but i can always throw some wax on to bring the shine down, mini commando lug sole or at least something rubber.I'm trying to find some that don't have dogshit half assed fashion boot build quality

Who makes boots worth buying anymore?>whites fucks up every second pair>viberg is mostly shitite, the rare pair worth buying is sold out before they are posted >bakers customs are whites, every second pair is fucked up >Frank’s customs are only good if Frank himself comes to your town (military base and you have to pretend to be a wildfire fighter)>yurotrash is yurotrashIt’s over
>>18279747>>whites fucks up every second pairproof?
>>18279749All the returns on bakers and whites websites. Those in the “final few” section are custom fuck ups and they just send you a new pair now if they fuck up and “send you to the top of the list” which is why custom orders are now more than eight months. And my own experience with the baker guy.
>>18279629They stole those boots from a bronze statue.
>>18279629I really like the look of them, anyone make boots out of other metallic looking leathers? Are metallic leathers even a thing?
>>18279753i looked through the final few sections and its all cosmetic so its literally all redditors crying and returning
>>18279753There’s more and more custom returns at bakers. I suspect the worn boots that are on there are employees trading in their shit
>>18279765>people who get the wrong boot or a shit boot should just roll over and take itlollmao even No. Get it right, wagie.
>>18279765You are a cuck, the fuck is the matter with you that you’ll take a wrong order?

>>18279778because the rampant printing of dollars for covid relief has decreased your purchasing power>>18279774>>18279777ok redditors
>>18279778Because retards buy from bakers instead of Frank because the only way to get good customs from Frank is to go to a military base to get measured.
>>18279782>got a custom last from Frank for only 750 and horsebutt I did go to the army reserve base, though, and it was all state wildfire fighters there.
>>18279782>>18279747Just take a flight to Spokane and go to Frank's shop, he's always there except on Saturdays and have him measure your foot.
>>18279695That’s why I don’t like the grant stone diesel. They look great but the ass crack ruins them.
>>18279749I own two pairs and one is flawless, one has a crooked tongue and sloppy stitching 1/2 for me
>>18279765Fuck this You pay for a product to be a certain way, they should deliver. Why accept less than what you're paying (extra) for? Fix it wagie
>>18279828the ONLY reason I don't own GS is because of the ass crack
>>18279847Does their Garrison have the butt crack?I like how it's a 270 degree GYW not 360 so that's what I would have gotten anyway.
>>18279849Yup
>>18279852It's so ogre, they're such great boots otherwise, what a shame.
>>18279846i know your kind only wears boots to the office but the boots will get dinged up more the moment you wear them to actual work
Are vintage made in the USA Timberlands a good find or were they shitty back then too?
>>18279863Depends how old they are.Their waterproofing is probably gone.
>>18279765Wow glad I bought two pairs last year on sale for $500 each.
>>18279866They say late 90s early 00s, and that's fine waterproofing can always be re applied right?.
>>18279869When do they go on sale?
>>18279866>>18279871Seller just told me they bought them in 1999 and never wore em
>>18279874I got them last Black Friday I think it was 30% off. $553 for hand stitch $460 for the regular one. Semi dress and 350 I bought
>>18279882That's pretty sweet, and black friday is just around the corner; I appreciate the heads up Anon
>>18279828desu the asscrack doesn't really matter and the brass and edward dont have it
>>18279877The quality is probably the same as they are today. Boot quality went down in the 70s when synthetics started being used.
>>18279891Gotcha, looks like I'll be holding off on that one then. The only benefit would be their discontinued colorway (navy &grey), but I'm not wanting a pair of Timberlands that bad.
>>18279861That's not the point retard If I pay for a product I am paying for it to be perfect. If it's not perfect make it cheaper or refund me
>>18279903ok redditor
>>18279891That doesn’t sound right to me.
>>18279909What do you want me to say? They weren't using oak tanned leather midsoles or insoles, it was made with polyurethane and lasting board.
>>18279911Did Timberland ever even make them that way?
>>18279944Probably not, I'm just using that construction method as an example. If you look at boots made in the 60s most of them were made that way with things changing at that point over to rubber midsoles.
>>18279946I gotcha; thanks for helping me talk myself out of buying trash, especially when black fridays coming up and I'll be able to get some actual great quality boots on sale for just a bit more than I would have spent on that.
>>18279907>wanting what you pay for is "reddit"Cringe
>>18279960I'm with you Anon but a lot of these guy's aren't poor enough to really care about that shit and some of them see minor cosmetic defects as a good thing that makes boots more unique
>>18279132The answer is Thursdays but your logic is all wrong. Don't spend $200 "to see if you like boots." Decide if you fucking want them or not and pay $150 extra, at least, for something not shit. Red Wings are the cheapest boots you want to buy.
>>18279626They are complete shit? Horrible quality control and leather so thin they don't look good after a year. Oh and the insole is foam and will be very uncomfortable over time. They're just not real boots.
>>18279699Skolyx is a swedish company, it's their own brand of shoes that are made in Spain. Skolyx is generally pretty good for the price and the brands they carry are good, especially TLB Mallorca.
>>18279288Rubbish. Use disinfectant if you're a wimp. eBay is full of shoes worn once or twice.
probably the most ruthlessly mangled color 8 cordovan pair that ever existeddude really put in a lot of effort to get them this fucked in just 2 years
>>18280963did he overcondition or something
>>18280966eventually yes>he bought too large to compensate for an E wide foot, even though alden makes E widths all the time>didn't break them in properly and bent the vamp as much as possible, so the cordovan didn't develop rolls, but straight up creases>decided he doesn't like them anymore, because rose anvil did the whole anti-alden crusade at the time>said fuck it and ruined the color by sun fading, basicly stuck the boot in a greenhouse for 6 months>the leather shrunk and dried out, the creases became deeper, all the scratches on the leather became permament>overconditions them>he is now in love with the color>decides to pay for a complete relast of the boot, have the shaft taken in at the back and a celastic delete>the new clinch copy last is a lot shorter than original>the boot gets a completely new break point on the vamp and because the leather is completely ruined the boot gets a new set of creases on top of the old creases>after all the cobbler work the facing still touchthis is now the result
>>18280990>>said fuck it and ruined the color by sun fading, basicly stuck the boot in a greenhouse for 6 months
>>18279887It took until spring before I got them. So there’s that too. But worth the wait for a long term investment. I don’t plan on buying another pair of boots in my lifetime.

>>18281065It's like arts&crafts for people with no talent nor skill>>18281150I think you hit the nail on the head with that post. I mean, I like patina and fades as much as the next guy, but it's more about the process than the end result. Patina for boots and fades for jeans are the result of the garment molding to you trough use. Speedrunning the process always resukts in shit not fitting right.
>>18280990>didn't break them in properlyHow does that work? How can you break in a boot improperly? Isn't it just wearing them and uhh walking?
>>18281162My guess is tgat he manually flexed the boots until "broken in". Some youtubers recomend flexing the boot a few times when they're new to siften them up before wearing. My guess, considering all the shit he did to the boots, is that he flexed the boots by hand until they developed creases. Also I'd bet money that he spend ten times more doing stupid shit to his boots than actually wearing them.
>>18281162basicly doing toe squats with a boot right out of the box
>>18281171>Some youtubers recomend flexing the boot a few times when they're new to siften them up before wearing. My guess, considering all the shit he did to the boots, is that he flexed the boots by hand until they developed creases.lel never heard of that before. So much for wearing your boots until they le fit like a glove. Maybe they start pulling at and stretching the fingers of their newly bought gloves too.
