/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - TRUMAN EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

Yes, but if the boot is somewhat new it's worth exchanging for one width size up.

Also a cobbler would do it not a boot maker.
Either way try to exchange if you bought them used then take it to a cobbler as a last resort.

What kind of squeak is it? My vibergs developed a squeak on the right boot when I walk and hasn’t gone away. My nigs make squeaky noises when I pivot standing still on tile floors but don’t squeak when walking.

Thoughts on all nail construction boots? No more debates over whether goodyear or stitch down is the best construction method.
>>
>>18274862
It's cool, and a shame that you can't get it from Wesco or Viberg anymore.
Idk if I am wrong but I think I remember hearing Viberg used to do it too.
Wesco did a run of boots with it for an anniversary.
Idk if it's better or worse, there wasn't anyone really doing reviews back then.

Depends.
If you want something more dressy the best thing I could think of would be the US ripple sole combat boots that were issued between the 60s and 80s. They are tall but full leather and soles are low profile, so they can look a lot better in service boot sorts of roles. Also the last is really roomy if you don't like squished toes. Genesco and Ro-Search are some of the contractors.

picture related, its my foot imprints in my red wings Ive worn for a week. These are my first real boots, I got measured in the store and trusted the salesman (stupid in hindsight).

Do these look to small for the pinky toes? Already seething at the prospect of having pissed away 400 bucks due to not doing my research tbqh

These are store bought, brand new so Id really hate to sell them at a loss.

>>
>>18275129
it doesn't look that tragic and if they sold you this in person it's probably not unwearably painfull
it will get better in a couple of months of wear, so just keep wearing them without pushing yourself too hard, not a good idea to wear them all day long initially
you can get it stretched in that spot by a local cobbler to have the process be faster
generally by the end you won't feel noticably too cramped, but the fit is never going to be ideal, no matter what you do

that is why getting a good fit from the start is important
sometimes the last just doesn't work with your foot shape and sizing is just a compromise between getting the least worst size

this is classic a RW sizing dilemma for practically everyone
RW employees are taught to size down people as long as they are still able to put the boot on
going true to size with red wing, as long as you can still lace them tight and the facing don't touch, is a better move
you can just wear thick socks, put in kilties and if you need to an insole

also wear clean socks bro

I like barefoot shoes, with a natural shape and thinner outsole. I used to wear combat boots all the time and I want some work boots, but now I'm used to the wider fit of my vivos and hate shoving my feet back into skinny surplus. Where can I find a good boot with a natural fit (wider than most shoes) so I don't get smashed basketball player chinese penguin toes like everyone around me?

I am thinking about trying engineer boots, but I am on the fence for a couple of choices. What would you choose for the following options?
>Black or brown leather
>Round toe or flat toe
>If black for the leather, black edging or brown edging
Black seems like the classic choice but I am not sure how well it will work with my current fits. I already have brown boots though, not sure I want another one.

What is so special about engineer boots? I don't get it, they don't even look all that nice
>>
>>18275417
Thanks for the concise reply.

The socks actually werre kind of an issue, I took my extra thick winter wool socks to prevent chafing initially, which is why they got dirty so fast as well ( its far too warm to waer those wherre Im at currently).
After switching to normal socks and lacing the shoes less tightly, they are not really uncomfortable, just a bit more snug than I'd like.
Even went back to the store and they offered me a to stretch the boot out for free, but other than the snugness I really like those boots so I decided against it for now.
Also got my feet measured again, and it turns out my brannock is actually a lot smaller than I thought, seems Ive been wearing too large shoes for a long time ( which is why my old Chelseas go a tiny bit into clown shoe territorry apparentlly). These shoes are half a size down from my Brannock, so nothing too crazy. Also confirmed that the shoe apparently fits as it should, flex point is where it should be, theres room for my toes and I can wriggle them around freely, also the spot where its tight is outside the celastic cap and will definitely stretch.

Ill see how it turns out , but I think I will definitely go true to size on my eventual next ones. As is I can wear the boot all day without any real problems, just some discomfort after a full workday of being in them but no actual pain.
>>
Shopping around and most places don’t offer wide widths. Why? I’m convinced there isn’t a grown adult male that isn’t at least an E width.
>>
>>18275129
If it's causing pain just take it to a cobbler and get it stretched, it may fix it, it may ruin it.
Best option will be to take it back to the store say you bought this and was measured there and they don't fit and you'd like a wider with.

turdsdays has a history of poor pattern making likely due to being a relatively new player and basically putting no money into developing their patterns

looks wise it looks bad. structurally is less of a concern cause they build the boots with such trash that everything else will fail before structural concerns becoming an issue

>>
>>18277110
the thursday has a taller heelbase and no toe spring, it looks tilted forward and unbalanced
the facings on the thursday end extremely high and short on the vamp
on the other boots the top line of the heel counter and the top of the arching stitch line that connects quarter/vamp create a straight line that points to the tip of the toe
on thursdays it doesn't, the heel counter is too high and the quarter stitch line runs parallel to the ground

>decides to pay for a complete relast of the boot, have the shaft taken in at the back and a celastic delete
>the new clinch copy last is a lot shorter than original

How does that work? How can you break in a boot improperly? Isn't it just wearing them and uhh walking?

My guess is tgat he manually flexed the boots until "broken in". Some youtubers recomend flexing the boot a few times when they're new to siften them up before wearing. My guess, considering all the shit he did to the boots, is that he flexed the boots by hand until they developed creases.
Also I'd bet money that he spend ten times more doing stupid shit to his boots than actually wearing them.

lel never heard of that before. So much for wearing your boots until they le fit like a glove. Maybe they start pulling at and stretching the fingers of their newly bought gloves too.

Nevermind I found him, his kilties are too nice for my purposes. I wanted just a green pair for my brown Patriots and a red pair for my shadowbisonsuperdutys, and it would be silly to get kilties out of a nicer leather than the boots themselves kEK

Is it really best to get boot trees? In other words should i buy some for my iron rangers?
>>
>>18282362
no, just get regular shoe trees
boot trees do nothing but restricting air flow and make it harder for the boot to dry faster
