A shitty or overprocessed one most likely, an old timey real processed jacket smells like Fahrenheit minus the herbals and patchouli, a real leather one smells like Knize Ten.
I find sad most people haven't sniffed real leather, they think a car seat cleaned with leather conditioner and some femenine florals is what a tanned piece of hide is all about.

To my Drakkar Noir bros, Dakar is really damn good but there's another alternative that i can vouch for: Belcam's Classic Match Drakar Replica, it's a bit more mossy than Dakar to the point it becomes camphourous, like really fancy menthol foot powder.
Costs around the same as Dakar but 75ml, as far as i know it's U.S. & Canada only. Good american dupe brand, only one that wasn't up to scratch was the Polo Blue one.

>Montblanc Starwalker, a woody take on Versace Eau Fraiche
I was going to poke fun at you but i will be serious about it: Why do you think so?
Eau Fraiche has only one thing going for it and it's the woods, it's one of the most woody freshies out there, literally smells like pencil shavings in the opening if not macerated enough. The drydown is pure woody freshness, how is Starwalker, a fruity freshie with herb undertones and a powdery woody drydown a woodsy take on it?
I get being a take of it, they are somewhat similar, Starwalker is too feminine leaning but it goes away after the hour to reveal the classy drydown, but i don't know man, Eau Fraiche is all base notes and shitty top notes that the arabs magically fixed, particularly Armaf with the Aura Fresh release.

in search of a vanilla scent, was recommended and able to sample tobacco vanille and eau des beaux. the sales assistant at the l'occitane shop didn't even suggest the latter when I asked for vanilla, and indeed it was not what I expected.
tobacco vanille on the other hand smells like pure vanilla to me. very nice, but probably not what I was going for. couldn't sample by the fireplace or divine vanilla.
got suggested pdm love don't be shy and althair, too. these also had a very prominent vanilla.
overall I guess I'm looking for something that is more like liquor, or something that has a warming aura to it. essentially without a citrus component
>>
Look, i know it's trendy to make fun of indians, however fragrance is actually essential for us so we dispel stereotypes. You on the other hand are an eternal consoomer, maybe if you didnt buy so much shit in your life your govts wont be forced to accept so many immigrants. Think about that

Best vanilla i've ever tried is from an american niche house called Sand + Fog, White Vanilla, pure lactonic vanilla with a very faint hint of orange candy.
>tobacco vanille on the other hand smells like pure vanilla to me
Smells like spiced vanilla powder of it, it's good but there's better vanillas out there.
>that is more like liquor
Dior perverted Fahrenheit in their Le Parfum version, rum with a heavy vanilla base note and some violet leaf to make it smell ozonic. It fucking sucks if you see it under the glass of the old classic but it might be interesting enough for you.

>>18317915
Not from a country that accepts immigrants and i have met actual pajeets in stores: They are rude, they stink, they do not know what they are selling, to make this on-topic they do not use perfume other than Axe which makes them smell like using a poorfag version of Kouros because they project a clean scent but you can also sniff their week-old sweaty pants and old piss, they do not assimilate to their context, they do not clean their work environment and they do not wash their hands.

I do believe they have the potential to be decent people but the fact is the ones who get out of India are ambitious but that same trait makes them insensitive towards people, almost like sociopaths if it wasn't for the fact they get mad when called out. I don't doubt for a second i can meet a bunch of cool guys from there one hour after getting out of the airport in Calcuta but the fact is they are scumbags outside. That's how it is buddy
>fragrance is actually essential for us
For the immigrants it isn't, their god is money with the minimum effort possible. Even the arabs who eat as much spices as them take a bath often and smell like Christmas, indians smell like a wet cat and if their fragrance was a cumin attar.

Bought during Covid, nothing more than $1/ml for vintage and $0.5/ml modern. All new in box. My collection since has expanded. But Guerlain vetiver and Caron pour un homme remain my favorites. Third favorite would probably be Fahrenheit. But I’ve been wearing a lot of eau de baux lately. Which is another good vanilla, since I remember reading another anon asking about vanilla frags.

>Guerlain vetiver and Caron pour un homme remain my favorites
I cannot find Caron, let alone vintage, but Vetiver i found several and honestly vintage is excellent, current formulations smell identical at first but they drydown differently despite having the same notes. Have a 2008 i think (gray box), will look into buying other tall bottles from the era but i keep grabbing vintage YSL and other stuff. My goal is vintage Cool Water.
I also recommend L'Homme Ideal Intense, one of the best cardamoms out there.
>Fahrenheit
That's my second choice but it's tough to find vintage ones for decent prices, i rely on dupes but arabs aren't very good cloning ozonic notes or violet leaf in general. Aqua is probably my most favorite and i think i rate it higher than EDT, shame it was discontinued so soon and all its dupes too like Zegna. Current formulation of EDT i think is very good but very patchouli-heavy rather than leather or tea, from 2011 to 2019 it was piss poor to make people buy the flankers.

>>
>>18318023
Calone, notorious for smelling differently depending on the person, Bvlgari smells sulfurous to some, i think it's funky but not eggy like Profondo or Eau de Parfum are.
>>18318025
>profondo is just slightly blue acqua di gio
Profondo is a different thing altogether in my opinion, not just "slightly", the lime got replaced with full-on bergamot, much more woody and the calone is ramped up, also moss got erased too but same can be said about modern reformulations of AdG.
Light Blue Intense i cannot smell the egg but it sure doesn't last very long, sadly.
>>
>>18317800

I have yatagan. I like that one too. Aramis I’ve tried but my collection is large and it wasn’t enough for me to want it. Another frag in a similar realm is polo green, the vintage formulation uses lots of natural essential oils. It’s great during Christmas.
>>18317989
Caron use to be very easy to find for very cheap on eBay. I haven’t checked it in a while. The very old one like pic related is something special. The other vintage is also a step up from the current formulation, but the current formulation is great too. I have a 750ml bottle I use for curtains and linens. The ideal line from Guerlain is probably the only masculine I don’t have. I tried the original but it wasn’t a need for me. And it was already at the time my collection was growing too large. I have tried any of the Fahrenheit flankers but would like to if given the chance. My Fahrenheit is a vintage formulation. It is better than what is available today. But with all these fragrances that I have vintage formulations of, eben though they’re better, the current formulations are better than most fragrances made today.

1) Initio Rehab for a high quality, overpriced ,designer-style niche, warm smooth bright vanilla. Easy to wear in any situation
2) Guerlain Bosca Vanilla Forta is a lesser known excellent frag of woods, vanilla, and mandarie-esque citrus up top. It's really amazing actually because Guerlain does amazing vanilla; speaking of which..
3) Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille is from their art and material line so it's gonna be fucking expensive, but it's the cleanest vanilla scent you can get on planet earth at this point (leans feminine.)
4) PdM Pegasus is a metallic almond with a heavy vanilla backings (again overpriced so only at discounters)
5) Pour un homme de Caron - Lavender Vanilla blast to the face. I have the parfum which dials down the coriander note. Vanilla blast.

Problem is performance and nuances, the latter is for the user but the former is an epidemic. Vintage is great but i only reserve their use in special occasions, for daily i use arab dupes and oils because current shit doesn't do it.
Some exceptions, i found Bentley stuff to be very good for the price.

NTA but i think it does away with the booze aspect, i suspect because of arabs, also seems too sweet.
The closest i've smelled is something called Fire Your Desire by dupe brand Paris Corner, which is a subset of a bigger brand but i don't recall which one, Lattafa already has Maison Alhambra so i don't think it's that one.
I think it's that one, there's a shitload of Angel's Share dupes i forget which is which, perhaps Angel by Kismet was the winner but i don't remember, it's a lady's fragrance hence why i somewhat ignored it.

This is a good thing, unironically, only fags care about someone smelling your brand. But yeah you are right, good stuff is condemned to one of your points. The worst is out of production and with no clones around.

I never tried, I should get a sample. Is the bottle really as good looking as in the images?

SOTD: used a sample of Bohoboco Magic Mushroom, a very strange mossy aquatic herbal thing. I kinda love it. Would be a fun signature scent, it is strange but wearable and pleasant. I'm worried that people might smell the cannabis note, I'm not a cannabis guy, but I barely notice it myself and would have noticed it if it wasn't pointed out to me. I'm getting a full bottle of this.

I'm not a girl, I still wear Black Orchid. I feel it is very unisex despite being advertised for women. It is a bit dark and sexy, so it requires a man who is able to carry himself with those kinds of suggestions. If you want a female flanker then Velvet Orchid is more feminine. Black Orchid is my go-to party and event scent. I never tried Yuqawam Femme. I keep buying bottle after bottle, it is one of my favourites. I bit too much for the office though, but I have worn it to the office as well.
>>

Not really but okay buddy
>dark and sexy, a man who is able to carry himself with those kinds of suggestions

You gay bro? but still i can say Yaqawam Homme was decent and i made a mistake, i meant Tuscan Leather rather than Tobacco Vanilla, there's a tobacco one which is good but it wasn't it.
Tried those two (and Hawas, Daarei) but the one i keep searching, Ambergris Showers, is elusive. Supposedly a take on Anthracite/Narciso Rodriguez.
>>
>>18318335
I'm not gay. But I guess it can be a little flamboyant which I like and don't mind. I also like Joop Homme which is even more flamboyant. I'm a flashy guy, but not a faggot. I like tobacco vanilla and vanilla fatale. I feel they are harder to wear though than Black Orchid.

So yaqawam have a range of fragnances that are Tom Ford clones or just happen to be a house that has fragnances in a similar vein? I don't think I tried anything from them.

>just happen to be a house that has fragnances in a similar vein?
It's a line from Rasasi, so arab dupes. It did look like Tom Ford specific, according to Fragrantica it's: Homme (TF Tuscan Leather), Femme (TF Black Orchid), Jasmine Wisp (Terenzi Kirke), Ambergris Showers (Meme Paris Irish Leather), Tobacco Blaze (SHL777 Soleil de Jeddah) and Orchid Prairie (Mugler Alien Oud)
Surprised to see Anthracite was released after Ambergris Showers, didn't expect that but Narciso was 2007 IIRC. Rasasi supposedly makes the best Creed dupes so probably they are good, i recall Homme being pretty close but the amber notes weren't very close.

Literally all of the above, although to varying degrees which ones and why.

For example, L’Oréal is notorious for releasing fragrances and (if) they become a bit hit, letting them accumulate a good following for ~a year~ and then stripping them down to bare minimum oils so they’re recognizable but perform like shit.

There are also the occasional reformulations due to ingredient bans/limitations/sourcing issues, but these are less common in recent years because the bans/limits are more infrequent, and the ‘hard to source’ things have already been replaced and aren’t being put in new fragrances. The only two that I can think of immediately are LADDM by Tauer and Synthetic Jungle by Malle, due to the ban on… lillial, I believe. LADDM lost a little bit of performance, and Synthetic Jungle was hit so hard they literally changed the name of the fragrance to Synthetic Nature. This is/was obviously a much bigger thing for older fragrances from the 60s-80’s because of more widespread bans and more natural materials being used in the past which are now scarce.

Changing with the times does occur, but is easily the least common because there has been a long lasting stagnation in the fragrance world for the past… 20-25 years. The hardcore, loud, particularly animalic fragrances of the 70s/80’s saw gradual reformulations as time progressed towards the clean/aquatic/blue 90’s and onwards, but again, it’s a minor thing, generally speaking a fragrance just gets discontinued if it’s not selling well, they don’t bother tweaking an existing one. Besides, why tweak something old when you can just release a “new flanker” of it and slap an Eau Intense or EdT -> EdP label on it and sell twice as many products.
>>

Knowing your tastes i do not dare to throw you into the rodeo of cheap frags and oils but if you insist there's Afnan Tribute Blue, a dupe on vintage Cacharel supposedly. Haven't smelled the old juice but the new one gets dusted in the ground by the dupe, hard. Spicy, long lasting, warm and woody.

If you like a cheap, somewhat plain woody clove monster from the 70's there's Al Rehab Superman, despite the silly name and branding it's a dupe on the school of old timey Jacomo and Cartier, not quite like those but it's dry fresh spicy and full of clover.

Almost everything european got reformulated in the pandemic due to IFRA 49 and 51 rulings, even stuff released not that long ago like the Wanted line of Azzaro.
>it’s a minor thing
Oakmoss and many natural base ingredients got hit so bad in post-recession (2007-2008) that it created an entire niche in perfumery which is vintage hunting, there was a time when buying old bottles was cheaper than newer ones.
Also arabs are becoming known to reformulate when a particular frag is a hit, Rasasi Hawas has been reformulated at least thrice in 9 years for example.
>>

My recommendation is to get samples of what you find interesting and not blind buy frags because the notes look good or familiar. >he's respected
He's pretty good, can craft a classic manly frag and can also do the most faggot, cocksucking cloying sweet juice around with ease, the guy has some hidden gems in his career too, you can check his early 00's stuff and he was quite original at times. While his famous hits are overrated they aren't bad at all, OG Le Shemale is for fags but is a very cool DNA for tomboys, Baccarat Rouge is an ambergris masterpiece that somehow men think is ok to wear.
So far Dior has been really wasting his talent but i do believe he's also distracted or burned out because his interviews make him seem like the most pretentious guy there is. I've seen old shit from him and he seemed much more upbeat and down to the ground. Still waiting for a Fahrenheit flanker, his violet leaf creations are often great.

Eau des Baux update. This stuff is divine, I am so thankful that it’s not obnoxiously strong because this scent profile when done with nuclear strength like it’s usually done is almost nauseating. I love the bitter-sweet medicinal vibe and subtle smoky soapiness. I just wore a few sprays before my workout and it’s not distracting like many so called “sport” fragrances end up. Definitely a top pick for this winter its a real winner.

kek, dupes are never like the original. don't fall for the dupe meme where you end up buying so many dissatisfying dupes that you could have spent the same money on the original
>>
>>18319707
Club de nuit urban elixir is identical to sauvage
>>
>>18319707
It's hit or miss with dupes. They dont have natural ingredients and are usually badly blended. I like to imagine them as a badly blended flanker of the original, not as actual 1-1 clones. Especially with niches that use natural ingredients.

But there really are some quality ones out there that capture the original so well. I got a LNDL dupe and its drydown mogs so much of my collection. Got it in Dubai for super cheap too.
>>
>>18319707
>>18319713
We have to determine why you're wearing Sauvage in the first place. Are you trying to impress women? They won't know the difference between a dupe, but you will. Assuming you've worn the real thing before.
>>
>>18319732
I had a bottle when it came out and enjoyed the smell. It made me nostalgic for the shower gel and locker room scents of the late 90s and early 2000s. I now have club de nuit urban elixir and it scratches that craving for a fraction of the price. I understand that frags like Aqua Quorum or Polo Sport are more authentic frags with that vibe. I also do not care what women think of the scents I wear. I have lately been wearing incense/resinous frags. I just personally enjoy the low brow sauvage vibe too.

I have New Look. It's the only one of the Dior Private line that I own. I went to the store to smell all of them and this is the only one that stood out as interesting. It's got a completely conceptual (as opposed to naturalistic) smell. It smells like burnt gunpowder in space. It's frankincense and vanilla. It's crazy but it works. Oddly enough I think the closest thing i've smelled is Kalan from PdM, but even that's very different because New Look doesn't have any juicy aspect at all. this is 100% NOT a blind buy. extremely experimental.

>his recent output is incredibly boring
Eau Forte is not boring at all, it's a trainwreck, it's so puzzling it's endearing. His other stuff no idea but it seems all white florals and aldehydes with amber so nothing we haven't smelled from 80's lady frags, might as well have taken Estee Lauder's top job.
His last stuff that isn't a remake of some of his earlier stuff seems to be from 2021, his Aqua Forte series and a orange chocolate leather chypre called Empyreal.
But honestly all it takes is one good frag to make it and then churn out 2 or 3 flankers, problem is Demachy ended up making fucking Sauvage and loads of great flankers although many discontinued, it will be pretty hard to match him.

>>18319560

Back in them days fragrances meant attars.
Also Islam contradicts itself often due to Imams pulling narratives out from their butts.
>>18320140
>they most definitely can
They can't, even if it is permitted they don't use it so culturally speaking it is haram, if you spray it on skin your body is technically consuming it too as part of the alcohol gets absorbed.
There's a reason they sell shitloads of oils, they don't risk it and use the extrait itself.

Whatever dude. 90% of Islamic rulings are just some desert monkey stating his opinion and people blindly following. What your claiming is in the minority, unless you can specifically state which school adheres to this bullshit.
>>
>>18320160
>Whatever dude
Yet you replied
>What your claiming is in the minority
Perhaps, truth is the most liberal of muslims are also adhering to the oil thing, it is not a minority, fact is Afnan, Al Rehab, Swiss Arabian, even some lines of Lattafa are full of oil presentations and their websites state many of those are the most sold so there must be something to it.
Culturally they prefer oils but maybe it's not a religious thing? it is very plausible, they sell shitloads of them locally, that's the truth, and as it is sometimes cheaper there might that factor too. Many muslims don't touch alcohol perhaps for not knowing scripture, after all arabs were known in many western countries to kill dogs because reasons even when Mohammed himself liked dogs and was more than ok with them, same with zoroastrians.
It's like christians, most of them do not know scripture that well and the priest class is not that well-read or benevolent either in many cases.
>>
>>18320175
The oils are traditionally used, and by virtue of it lasting much longer in the Arabian heat. EDT concentrations are not native to the region and are a modern invention. Despite this I wager if you walk into any Muslim person's wardrobe in the gulf you will find EDT fragrances. It's not a religious thing, it's a climate thing.
>>
>>18320203
Yeah you and they might be onto something, doesn't change the fact some of them are distracted and claim no alcohol.
Problem with attars is that you have to be close to project and they are a mess with clothes, need dark stuff if you get the smears.
Also i think they rub a bit in their hair or beard, mix it with argan or some other stuff and project a bit better.

Muslims use it all the time, if alcohol gets absorbed through your skin then you have some unusual medical skin disease. And it is eating and drinking alcohol that isn't allowed. They use it in fragnances all the time. Very common to use perfume before going to the mosque. There isn't any Islamic scholar who says it is not allowed, everything is allowed if it isn't forbidden in scripture somewhere.
>>
>>18319985

Cuba Prestige Legacy is identical to Gucci Guilty pour Homme, same shit performance even although Cuba lasts marginally longer in paper.
Perry Ellis 360 Red is ridiculously similar to Acqua de Gio is silly, except AdG has been reformulated so much that it now smells like a watered down 360 Red. But for two decades they were the same thing.
Montale Amber Musk is the same dung as Juliette Has A Gun, and redundant as fuck for it.
Now dupes don't have to be 100% the same, these are very, very nearly the same but shit that is 95% or less are going to be the same on air, people smell the projection and that is like 3/4 of the original thing at most. Arabs usually just care about that 3/4 or a bit more and add their own twist, sometimes changing top notes or adding spices into the base which i don't think most people like.
>>
>>18320234
>everything is allowed if it isn't forbidden in scripture somewhere.
