>Who is /fat/ for?
For former feasters, working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

my metabolism is through the roof. earlier this summer i started working 1000 hours a week and found myself hungry as fuck all the time. i worried very much that the change would completely derail my weight loss progress and that i would stop meeting my weight loss goals.

that didn't happen. i'm still losing weight. this month i lost about 5lbs. that's slower than my old average of 1.5-2lbs a month but i am extremely close to my goal and getting too lean to lose weight that fast anyway.

the main difference, as i said, is that my metabolism is going crazy. i can eat more food during the week when i'm working and then eat very close to sedentary TDEE (minus 500) on the weekends, and i still lose the same amount of weight as i did when i cut a lot more calories. it seems like my metabolism stays high on the weekend and i burn more fat during that time. there's another difference though- the plateaus and water retention has gotten worse. it's more difficult to measure my exact weight now. just today i experienced one hell of a whoosh after a week of wondering why the number on the scale wasn't going down.

stay strong, fatties! you can achieve your goals too you just need to stick with it. i've been intentionally losing weight since february and i am down 44lbs since then. i'm just 6lbs from my goal weight.

So why don't you guys like keto? I have about 10kg to lose and I'm tempted to give it a try for three months or so to see if the mental clarity benefits are legit. Losing weight has given me ten times the energy but I'm still tired of the post-lunch energy crashes and feeling exhausted each night.
>>
>>76553014
People don't like keto because its associated with mentally ill freaks shitting up threads
Its a decent weightloss tool if it works for you as it helps reducing calorie intake through satiety and possibly helps by increasing fat metabolism
>>
>>76553014

>>
>>76553014
you're free to give it a try it's mostly that in the end no matter how you cut it it's all CICO.
That said everyone's metabolism reacts differently to different stuff. So it's a possibility that your body doesnt handle carbs well, but on the contrary maybe your body handles carbs well and keto isnt gonna do shit.
What people dont like is a single retard shitting threads up with bullshit allegations.

>350lb attempting to walk 200 miles in August.

Days 24, 25 & 26 complete. Currently sitting at 177 miles.

My average has dropped to <5 per day. Good thing to, my ankle is starting to stiffen at mile 5. I've booked a doctors appointment for next week to confirm nothing serious.

The T-Bone was so good. Made me feel human. I hit maintenance that day, but I am very happy that I did it. It gave me the motivation to make these last few days.

We are finishing this thing together at work as a team by taking a walk around a country park on Sunday, followed by a team meal that boss man is stumping for. I don't plan to eat that much (certainly still at a deficit), but I might get myself a decent meal/no dessert.

This has been a crazy month and now that I am nearing the end, I am so glad I did this. IAGMI.

its fine, i've read alot of scientific reports on keto lately where the participants have lost weight and felt less hungry, and they recommend 1400-1600 calories a day where less than 20% of the calories come from carbs.
this seems like the type of diet most of us follow anyway

this meme doesn’t work if the guy doing cico was only on a small deficit, didnt track things by weight, and only stuck to it for a month maximum.
cico works just fine, the only time it "doesn’t work" is when the person doing it, is simply doing it wrong.

eat 1 - 2 meals a day in a 6 hour interval, then fast for 18.
it will shrink your stomach, making each meal fell much more filling. it will also allow your body time to properly digest the food and restore your metabolism to balance. Obesity isn't cause by the volume of the food, but by the frequency of consumption

People who have 250 extra lbs to lose have mental issues that cause their disordered eating. Putting them on TV and having a bunch of producers do everything they can to make the person lose weight is not sustainable, they go back to their original way of life and that's why their CICO diet fails.

If there's no schizoids fighting, the thread hits bump limit ever 2 days or so.
Issue is we have multiple schizoids who think their unique approach to losing weight is gospel and can't shut the fuck up about it - the mere concept that someone else may do something else that may work for them is impossible for them.
Ketards, CICOcksleeves, ozempigs, sugarbaiters, anything and everything will be discussed, though arguably those 4 are the worst offenders.

Part of me hates them for being mentally ill and shitting up the thread, part of me thinks as long as they are debating they can't be eating.

i've plateaud and can't get below 16% bodyfat, this fucking sucks and I'm feeling like shit because I haven't made any progress in the last few weeks. Fasting doesn't work because I get so insanely hungry now and can't go beyond 30 hours, I did a 3 day psmf, felt hungry as shit the entire time, and lost like .4 pounds.
I know if I keep this up I'll lose the weight eventually, but it's incredibly depressing because I would still need to lose somewhere around 5-6 more pounds to get below 12%, and at this point it's impossible to tell what's actual weight loss or what's water weight since the rate of fat loss has slowed down so much and my weight fluctuates greatly throughout the day.
It was so much easier when I was at 20%+ and losing over a pound a week.

Skipped breakfast, for lunch I snacked on a tiny portion of spicy popcorn chicken while walking around walmart and then stopped at mcdonalds on the way home and got 3 double cheeseburgers.
It wasn't a super filling meal but I felt content. When I got home I ate one of the pistachio muffins I had bought out of a 4 pack. I thought I wouldn't eat again and was doing ok.

Then I got super hungry in the evening and ended up making sloppy joes with a can of manwich and a pound of ground sausage. I remember thinking to myself that I would just make two and save the other half for tomorrow.
Somehow I ended up eating the whole thing. 4 burgers all of them with two slices of pepper jack cheese. Each one was probably 800 calories minimum. After that I ate the other three muffins from earlier.

30 minutes later I was sitting on the toilet shitting my guts out. I don't often think about calories but I had time to kill and was casually adding up what I ate. I was really shocking, I never felt terribly full, I've eaten way worse before and felt worse but I honestly feel like I could eat more but somehow in less than 30 total minutes today I ate between 7 and 8 thousand calories.

Then it really fucked me up when I had the thought that to make up for those 30 minutes I would have to fast for 3 whole days. 3 days of misery just to counter out 30 minutes of eating. Not even losing anything just to break even. I know I am a horrible addict but man it just doesn't feel fair, a tiny fuck up and I'm buried in a mountain just to climb back to the starting line. I'm not looking for sympathy or anything, I know I'm a fuck up. Just sharing my misfortune so maybe it can motivate someone else not to make the same mistake.
>>
>>76554546
>fucking hell why am I like this
Because you're eating carbs and restricting calories.

You would have better results if you just stopped eating carbs and ate unlimited calories.

Pic related.
>>
>>76554571
>Then I got super hungry in the evening
Correction, I never actually felt hungry. My brain just wouldn't stop negging me that I wanted to eat. The intrusive thoughts never stop, from wake to sleep food is on my brain. I barely feel hunger most of the time, but I'm inhuman if I don't feel full.
I have no mental illnesses but I feel like I am more mentally ill than the real crazy people. I've been this way as long as I can remember even as a kid. My mom used to wrap a chain around the fridge to stop me from raiding it 24/7.

There's an overlap between rapid weight loss and loose skin.
It's not really clear if that's due to speed, or diet. People who lose weight quick tend to be at nutrient deficiencies from having a low calorie diet. And nobody knows if a highly nutritious low calorie diet, which causes fast weight loss has the same amount of chance to develop loose skin.

next time you get the urge to eat krispy creme donuts, just eat an entire watermelon instead.
>>
>>76554571
here's what you do-
1. make the burgers yourself instead of buying them from mcdicks, use those little thin buns instead of a regular bun, use mustard instead of mayo and ketchup, and then load that fucker up with onions, lettuce, tomato, and pickles (hardmode: no cheese)
2. sloppy joes are fine, but use lean ground turkey instead of sausage and just use one piece of regular white bread instead of a giant hamburger bun
3. no muffins! if you want something sweet eat an entire watermelon. now compare the calories in an entire watermelon with how many you ate from just those four muffins.
4. very important- you don't have to 'make up' for those calories by fasting for three days. don't do that. just get back on the horse and do a better job next time. i'll tell you a secret- your body probably wasn't able to absorb all of those calories. in all likelihood you will just shit out a bunch of them without ever storing them as fat. this is particularly true with meats for some reason.

work on your food choice. instead of starving yourself- eat a whole bunch of something that is satisfying AND low calorie- like roasted chicken or tuna.

I think we just need to establish what we mean by "Lean", because as you said "Lean" is a relative term. it can mean different things for different people depending on their goals. You need some fat in your diet, usually its not advisable to go under 35~50g a day to keep your hormones in check so I'd say lean is anything that can get you to your protein goals while staying under that limit, but your definition may vary.

If you're trying to get 150g of protein you can go the pure whey powder route and get there in about 10g of fat, that's about as "Lean" as it gets.
Boneless skinless chicken breast will get you to 150g of protein with about 20g of fat, double the powder's rate but still definitely "Lean" by my reckoning.
Skinless chicken thighs will get you to 150g in about 40g of fat, which is roughly double again ,but for me is still falls in the "Lean" range.
Double that again and we're at Beef Sirloin which will get you to 150g in about 80g of fat, and no longer what I'd consider "Lean".
Then we roughly double that again and you'll get something like Pork Ribs, they'll get you to 150g of protein at the cost of 200g of fat which is about as far from "Lean" as you can get.

So how do we want to define "Lean" I think it has something to do with the Protein/Fat ratio and where we want to draw that line. I'd suggest defining it as anything with a 3g protein per 1g fat ratio or better is "Lean" and anything over that isn't, but you might have a better definition and I'd like to hear it.
>>
>>76555337

When its sunny here its like 90°F and 80+ humidity with oppressivly stagnant air, but only like 75°F when it rains, and if it rains awhile the humidity starts to drop, and with the rain tends to come gusts of wind which makes things feel so much cooler. So I guess it really depends on your local weather how nice Rainy walks are. For me they're quite nice and I really enjoy how rainy its been lately.

>>
>>76555458
Seemingly out of nowhere I got really depressed. I'd been a content NEET for my entire adult life, an unpaid caregiver for my disabled family members, but at 34 a switch flipped in my head and suddenly 'living the dream' wasn't so great anymore, all the things I used to enjoy (anime/vidya/gunpla/ect) didn't make me happy anymore. I couldn't sleep at night. I didn't have any appetite. I was close to 400lbs so not eating wasn't doing any harm. Those sleepless nights turn into midnight walks, my dog loved them so I made it a habit. The lack of appetite went from unhealthy lengthy and aimless fasting to a more structured diet once I found this general. Then losing weight became my focus, just something to occupy my mind with to get my thoughts off endless recollections of missed opportunities and self loathing. Still got some weight to lose, but pretty much everyone who sees me says I look great now and I've lost a ton of weight (they don't see all the loose skin). People randomly stop me to ask me how I did it, ask what my exercise routine is, tips on lifting and dieting, that kinda shit. Still feel kinda depressed and moody but its better than it was before losing the weight, tried to get back into some vidya but I always bounce off it long before finishing anything, I consistently find myself starting something spending like 30 minutes fucking around, getting bored, dropping it with the intent of picking it back up, but never actually playing it again. Lifting and losing weight has become my hobby. I've somehow become even more boring than I was before.

If only there was a specific link in the OP that talked specifically about weightloss side effects.
Literally quoted from that link:

Skin retracting and going back to (more) normal takes time. Despite seeing the claim that loosing skin too quickly can cause more loose skin I have not been able to find any studies supporting this. That being said, loosing weight very quickly means the skin had less time to do its work. Obviously a person that lost some weight over some time looks better (as in has less loose skin) than a person that lost the same amount of weight over half the time, which is what I assume caused the saying. If you have any proof one way or the other, feel free to suggest it, it's greatly appreciated.

The thing to thus keep in mind is that skin going back takes time. If you lose your weight fast you should wait a good amount of time to give your skin time to retract before making any rash decisions like going and getting surgery. Give it time.

Give me an example. If it's let the dog out before you go to sleep or something like that just do it before you go to bed.

Stop being so secretive and you need to sit down with her and tell her you are so tired from getting waken up. Tell her only to wake u up if you are dying or an intruder is in the house

My 2 cents is that you have to put your foot down. Literally tell her that there is not gonna be chocolate in your home and she can fuck off if she can’t deal with that.

Obesity and food addiction are not a joke. It’s no different from if you were an alcoholic and she is bringing home bottles of wine.

If you strongly but lovingly lay down the law and show a willingness to lose her that is ultimately alpha and she will probably respect you more for it if she still likes you enough to deal with it.

If she breaks up with you and tells everyone about her “psycho ex who wouldn’t let her have chocolate” then fuck her she wasn’t the one anyway. If a girl really loves you she will put up with a hell of a lot more than a no junk food rule

Alright, so, ive been doing alright since i sarted my diet, ive lost about 30 lbs.

But in recent months ive started focusing on hitting my protein goals, which has forced me to increase calories, since i cannot go super low cal AND hit 1g per lean lbs muscle.
i was losing weight pretty consistently at 800 a day, but since then im reaching 1400 to 1800 a day just to meet my protein goals, and im barely seeing progress at this rate.

do i give up on meeting protein goals in order to eat low cal, or should i cut even more corners, eliminate more carbs/fats ie no cheese no bread, just meat and veg?
>>
>>76555951
Depends on what your goal is anon.
If you want to lose weight somewhat faster, lower caloric intake. If maintaining muscle is more important to you, keep at it.
Just keep in mind that building muscle while in a deficit is doable, but a lot harder, so you kind of have to pick a lane.
>>
>>76555951
Check your math and shit. You can do .8g of protein per pound of LBM at your target.

So if you want to some day be 210 pounds at 10% bodyfat, thats like 190 pounds LBM and thats like 150 grams of protein.

I realize 210 lean is super ambitious for most fags in here I am kind of implying that 150 is the most you will ever need to eat.
>>
>>76555853
Stop it man
>>
>>76556018
NTA but how do I figure out a target? I've never been thin as an adult and I assume LBM is limited by genetics.
>>
You know people throw out all these calculators and shit but a diet with a 1500 calorie limit where you get a minimum of 100~150g of protein and 30~50g fat a day with the rest at your discretion is going to work for like 95% of people. The only guys this won't work for at like dude shorter than 5'2" or taller than 6'4".

You don't need to recalculate your TDEE or get a DEXA scan to figure out your body fat percentage, just eat 1500 calories until you're not fat, hit your protein and fat target, and you're good.

>>76555297
have you lost weight atleast?
>>
>>76556051
I've said it many many times and I'll say it again, don't weigh yourself daily, it can be demotivating, your weight can fluctuate wildly based on an innumerable amount of factors including your hydration status, the air pressure, your mood, how much sleep you've gotten, the amount of carbohydrates or sodium you ate the day before. Just weigh yourself once a week and average it out, that's the most reliable and sane method.

Well something like my example is going to probably be above the "natty limit" for most of the cucks here who don't have elite genes. So you cant go wrong with 150 g protein. Other than that you are just going to have to do some guesswork about what weight you want to be and shit. Loose skin might be a factor, or your face starting to look too gaunt. Not everyone needs to get all the way down to an optimal BMI, in my opinion.

>>
>>76556085
idk, i was reading the calorie breakdowns of some of the studies keto schozo posts and the protein they were eating was surprisingly low, like 400 of their daily calories was coming from protein.

If you get under 10g of fat a day you're risking gallstones
If you get under 30g of fat a day fat soluable vitamins (A, D, E, and K) will be difficult for your body to absorb
If you get under 40g of fat a day your body may struggle to synthesize sex hormones (testosterone, estrogen)

>How do you do you not get discouraged
It's actually the starting that's the hardest, once you've got the momentum in my experience it gets much easier.
Be realistic about what's sustainable, be honest with yourself about what you can and can't do, and use every reinforcement technique under the sun to shape your behavior.
Losing weight can be fairly easy if you create the right conditions, and it can take inhuman mental fortitude if you don't.

Mr. Keto, what is your stance of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt? I east them regularly because they are high in protein. They both have carbohydrates but usually not a lot compared to the amount of protein and fat. Are they keto approved?
>>
>>76557122
Both are good. I choose the higher fat versions of them whenever possible. Instead of greek yogurt I eat a water buffalo yogurt myself with 8% milkfat. When I eat cottage cheese I have it homemade from 3.8% milk and then I eat it from a bowl with cream poured over the cheese so the total mf% is probably ~10%.
>>
>>76557220
Generally speaking what % of a foods macros should be carbs on the keto diet?
>>
>>76557304
I wouldn't worry about it. Just lower carbs until you aren't experiencing hunger and you're shedding body fat or maintaining leanness once you reach your goal weight.

If you have to actually measure and track your food then your diet is probably unsustainable and won't work.

I prefer to be at nearly zero carb most of the time. Zero carb food is delicious (e.g. bacon, eggs, butter, cheese, steak). I eat carbs sometimes as a treat. I also don't worry about low-carb dairy like yogurt without added sugar and unaged cheeses like mozarella or cottage cheese.
>>

Why can't you just have self control?
