This is not a distro war.I want to discuss what is the best release model for OSs in general.>Stable releaseMake a snapshot of a repository at a given time, and cherry pick security patches only.Advantage: not making breaking changes for the users all the time.Disadvantage: not as up-to-date, a lot of packages end up becoming fairly custom as backports and cherry-picks are applied to the snapshot/fork.>Rolling release (contuinally update packages)Release software updates as they come.Advantage: more up-to-date, can be easier to maintain as you do not have to apply a lot of custom patches for e.g. security updates.Disadvantage: may introduce breaking changes to packages at any time.Which model do you principally prefer? for Desktop? for Server?

>>106467063no problem. i can make more posts if you would like
NixOS is the weird case where it's essentially rolling release, but the way packages are managed you don't have so many conflicts between different versions of things. The only tradeoff is disk space and learning the autism of nix.
https://dawn.fi/uutiset/2025/09/02/steam-tyypillinen-peli-pcSTEAM is able to collect statistics on peoples computer hardware. Gamers now have 32GB RAM.Only a few years ago most still had 16GB.Within 5 years Intel has lost its importance as gamers CPU. AMD Ryzen becomes more common every month.Regular home users who dont do games might still be running Intels and dont care for any better.Intel was on most gamers computers in 2013 to 2019.Intel's best place was at 70% of all CPUs but those times are gone. However at least they havent dropped below 50%.The most troubling for Intel is, people who use Intel have like 6 year old models and people are reluctant to buy new models. 32 will be the bare minimum within a few years. I've already seen games that require 32.
>>106467071They can put that as the minimum/recommended spec, but are there any games that actually need that much? 32GB is when you get into "open 100 tabs without worrying about your PC getting slow" territory
>>106466412>>>The most troubling for Intel is, people who use Intel have like 6 year old models and people are reluctant to buy new models. Meanwhile Ryzens are all new 2020 or later.I'm sorry, but did Intel Already Lose? Oh, that's right. The company isn't even out of business yet. In fact, it's only Q326. Does not having a profit at 1H26 count as a loss? Is that what you're saying? Because if you're saying that I can assure you that you're wrong. Why would you make this topic when the company is still up? Arrow Lake CPUs are still being made right now and they have been the best computers for how many years now? They're selling more than one of the worst companies in the USA who just happen to have a lead because they're feeding off the energy of Selling Gamer Slop CPUs. But you know what? They still fucking suck. Intel is one of the best fucking companies in the USA, they just got the CHiPS investment last year and would of Sold the most if Youtube shills were honest. Maybe you should shut the fuck up before you make retarded topics like this. You know why? Because you're going to be embarrassed when Intel wins and someone bumps this topic. Oh look at that, Trump just gave them $10 Billion USD. Are you a fucking drunk? Are you retarded? Are you autistic? You are a fucking idiot and you should never make a topic on this board again and I'm fucking serious. I almost have a feeling you're the only guy making all these anti-Intel topics because you're a faggot hater who doesn't like the company because they're good. Fuck you, be good at something in YOUR life and then maybe try to troll these fucking companies on the board, like I give a fuck. It's so easy to spot out your threads now, you're a retard. Always doing stupid shit like this. Why don't you try to be a good poster? Just for once? For once in your fucking life try not to make a topic like this. That's just you, you're always right at getting it wrong. Fuck you. You are nothing.

I see a lot of talk on the internet about ditching disposable batteries for Ni-MH batteries. AA and AAA. But the one time I tried an Ni-MH battery in my kitchen wall clock, towards the end it started to slow down. I didn't notice it at first of course and was late for work twice. One I realized, I kept the battery in and monitored it. It was losing about 10-15 minutes a day. But at a glance seemed fine. Whereas with alkaline batteries, they kept time right until the very end, then stopped abruptly.Since then I've only used my Ni-MH batteries in digital things. Digital weighing scales, digital thermomenters, wireless keyboards and mice, remote controls etc. For everything mechanical I still use alkalines. Mechanical clocks, portable blood pressure monitor.I read it's something about voltages differences, so that might explain why the Ni-MH wasn't able to keep time towards the end, wasn't able to supply enough power but was able to supply some. However I still see lot of people on reddit, other various electronics boomer enthusiast forums, and of course /g/, who swear by going completely Ni-MH. So I don't get it? Are Ni-MH fine in your mechanical clocks? Is there just something wrong with my cells (or clock)?
