*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread ***

Before asking for help, please check our list of resources.

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine.
1) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice on bare metal and run your previous OS in a Virtual Machine.
2) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Timmy has made an announcement. He's making a Fortnight port for RISCV for Microsoft Windows and the two people that use it.

Is there a standard way to mount separate partitions? On Windows I typically have a partition for windows, and then another where I put all my personal data or things I save. So I gave C: and D:. What's recommended for Linux? I'm assuming I can't just do / or it'd screw up the OS partition. Can I just make my own and call it /d? It doesn't seem like /mnt or /media are good options.
>>
>>108514790
I forgot to mention/ask if something like /partitionD is acceptable and won't screw anything up in the system.

your emotional attachment is showing. Even other people agree cron tab syntax is esoteric at best. That is because some wage slave in the 70s didn't want to write a better parser, and that incompetence was then codified by a committee. Nobody in this pipeline wrote software with a coherent design language in mind, and it shows.

Human will realize the only way to keep up is having ai fix them. Humans are to slow. Human and ai built for different tasks. Go hunt a lion, human. That’s what humans are good for. Let ai handle coding. It’s what ai is good for. Human pattern recognition was made to hunt animals and survive in wilderness. Ai pattern recognition built for reading insanely large data sets. if your boomer brain weren't deep-fried from decades of binging on cannabis you'd see how it makes perfect sense, for instance that most amateurs are just retards who will never get good, they just have a belief (not factual knowledge) that they will become a music genius AFTER practicing an instrument, but much like practicing typing won't turn you into the next JRR tolkien, you're utterly fucked and will always suck balls, you're just deluding yourself that e.g. taylor swift's music sucks balls so that your music is equally valid, when in reality most normal people can hear that your music is completely horrible so you can't get a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of the amount of fans that she has, people can hear it completely naturally without getting marketing involved, you're just too stupid to understand what other people understand automatically at an intuitive level

And dozens upon dozens of lazy devs hard-coded their colors.

There are custom themes for Win11 that dark theme Win32 UI, and Microsoft could do the same. But because of those lazy devs they don't want to open up to the liability of some corposlave having issues using software from 1997 they need to use in dark mode because whoever wrote it back then didn't give a shit about respecting the Win32 API so we're stuck in the decades old Windows bodge parade. Bring your own dark theme! (warranty void if used)

If Microsoft has ANY SENSE, they build on the success of the .NET/C# team.

Develop a WinForms successor that is cross platform, Windows/Mac/Linux. Exportable to the web as well kind of like Avalonia. Simple drag and drop style native UI design with the ability to tweak and refine in the code. Make this a part of the transition to native UI.

This shit would do numbers and wreck the current landscape. Everyone is dead fucking tired of working on front end sloppo for even the smallest apps and internal tools. The OG WinForms was a gateway drug for getting into C# itself because it was so easy and streamlined to work with for any kind of basic app.

There's no tic-toc rule. Everything after 7 was shit.

10 is often considered "good" simply because it's a better experience than 8/8.1, but still worse than 7 in every way other than better compatibility with modern hardware and software.
I'd argue even Vista is overall better than 10 and the only reason Vista is shat on is "poor" compatibility because people were trying to run it on their ancient XP toasters.
7 was the only Windows after XP that MS improved in all sectors: compatibility, performance, features and experience. Everything else after if drops the ball in at least two of those areas.
>>
>>108513110
>10 is often considered "good" simply because it's a better experience than 8/8.1,
In what possible way?
It introduced Cortana, biyearly updates that broke everything, the inability to select updates, automatic restarts, tons of telemetry bullshit, unremovable "apps", forced windows defender, the UI was obnoxiously laggy on VMs where 8.1 would be smooth, replaced a lot of control panel options with half assed nonsense, broke custom visual styles all the time, the list goes on and on. 8.1 was 50 times better than that pile of dogshit.

Yes, I know this is the place where everybody loves to rice and have complete control over their system, but unlike some people who use Linux, I actually have a job and things I need to do.

I have been daily driving Linux, and it is very good, but I was wondering if it is possible to still have a good understanding of Linux systems on what some may call a “normie” distro like Ubuntu. Do I really need to use something like Arch or Gentoo to learn Linux? And if I do use Arch or Gentoo, am I even really learning Linux? It kind of seems I would learn more about the package manager and whatever other stuff it uses instead of actually learning Linux systems.

This. Absolutely this. I learned my way with Slackware in 1999. I don't use it anymore, but it helped me greatly.
>>108502947
Better for what? I haven't tried Gentoo. I can recommend Void, which I'm currently using in my home server, if you want something a bit easier to install and keep updated.
I think you don't sneed a' hard 'distro to learn Linux, but something like Slackware certainly would help in grasping some concepts.
>>
>>108502677
You should be thinking of what you want to accomplish on your machine instead of becoming an expert on fucking with it. The point of Linux is not to be difficult to use or master regardless of what 'power users' say. No one uses windows because it's harder to use. The Linux community is infested with elitists who do nothing productive with a computer. Keep using Ubuntu and be productive with it. If it can't do what you need it to, then consider another option.
>>
>>108502677
“Learning Linux” is usually just about managing a server, and that’s a completely different skill set. Normalfag and HR roastie just assume that typing shit on a linux server means you understand linux, even though many linux nerds don’t know how to manage a server and the same as server admins don’t know how to be productive on a linux desktop

Ubuntu must work reasonably well for a desktop linux, because the tinkertrannys seem to be annoyed by it. They prefer broken systems that give them a puzzle to solve.

7 replies omitted. Click here to view.
>>
Ram was at a historic all time low because they made too much capacity during lockdown expecting the world to need more hardware perpetually. That didn't happen and thus the price cratered.

The price you see now is very close to the new normal it will maybe go down from 400 to 300 but not reach the unprofitable lows we saw two years ago. That will most likely never happen again.
>>
The scarcity of affordable ram has created demand for moar ram.

The cheat is to just go back to ddr4 ram.

Every single game with Denuvo has been bypassed
Bypass is available for all denuvo games on day 0

Irdeto is seething hard and saying more invasive DRM is coming. I'm guessing they will demand kernel level access in later versions of Denuvo.

Will Microsoft allow them that?

99.99% of the complexity of yt-dip is overcoming anti-downloading measures that YouTube constantly updates against them. Why do you think it has js shit in it? For fun? It's because they have to literally run blackbox Google JavaScript to generate challenge responses in order to access the good quality download versions. Is there such a thing as a ethernet port tester?
there's a house where there's a bunch of ethernet ports in the modem/router room but they're unmarked, so idk which connect to where.

If there was a device I could plug into a port in a room, then swap through the modem room plugs and it pings me when both ends are connected...
I did this with 2 laptops before but it was a chore and very slow
>>
>>108514605
yes, they're very easy to make and I made one in my EE class (soldering practice class). they're two boxes, one with a 9v battery and it tests the pairs and lights up
>>
>>108514605
If you search for 'ethernet cable tester' they should come right up anywhere. Just connect a piece of cable to each end and it becomes a wall port tester. Should be available any place that sells network gear or home improvement stuff.
