What's so special about Arch? Why does it get memed on so hard? People say it has bleeding edge packages but why is that so important? Is it better for gaming or something? What makes it different from Mint?

i haven't paid money for an nvidia product for years but it was just unending buggy bullshit to the point where i just used my mobo's intel IGP instead. other linuxfags i know say the sitch hasn't really improved.. supposedly it got better very recently cause of the (actual) open sourcing of some drivers though.
but tbf intel arc is even worse and i still haven't fully forgiven the horrors of fglrx

What are some memorable experiences you had regarding tech in school? I’ll start
>switch n and m keys on a keyboard in keyboarding class
>sperg kid sits there, looks down at the keyboard and almost immediately begins flipping out
>ancient teacher and tard wrangler lumber over to inspect
>they murmur together for a moment
>teacher says the keyboard must be defective, unplugs it, and throws it away
>waddles off to get a new keyboard from a supply closet
>mfw
Also, later that year
>write Visual Basic scrip that causes the CD tray to continuously open and close
>runs as a background process, and task manager was disabled on school PCs, so it’d keep going til you rebooted
>I am le 1337 haxx0r
>put file on a flash drive, bring it to school
>copy file to the desktop
>realize that it’d be funnier to make people cause it to happen, rather than automatically running

>getting admin privileges on the highschool library PCs with the leaked/cracked password basically everyday (same one everywhere, it was just the name of the company maintaining the computers), ran some game, even "fixed" the leaked admin password once with konboot as some moron had changed it so it wouldn't raise suspicion
>one time all PCs are being used during lunch, for some reason the librarian lets me use her own PC that one time
>to thank her for her kindness, ran nirsoft.net's WebBrowserPassView to extract all of her saved passwords (I remember email in particular) while sweating like crazy, exported them to a txt file to my thumb drive
>feels like a 1337 haxor, but also like a little shit

>also in highschool, but in a biology lab
>installed a driver compilation from a floppy disk on a few win98 PCs so I could copy stuff from them to my region-issued thumb drive
in particular I really wanted to copy that fly hybridation simulator called Drosofly, but I couldn't make it work at home
it's insane that its website is still up (maybe it's still in the programs?) https://inforef.be/swi/drosolab.htm

other students would simply steal or throw the balls from the mice in the science labs or worse one time some retard had switched the power supply from 220V to 110V of a PC in the German classroom and it died with a bang as he powered it on
>>
we weren't allowed to install or modify anything on school PCs plus most of the websites were blacklisted, plus the computers were old, crappy and slow (they had floppy disk slots)
>>
>>107715650
Lmao
>looking at the keyboard keys and typing by manually picking the keys you want
Why is this such a filter for midwits? I've met people before who say that they can "type" and then what they really mean is that they're just decent at henpecking keyboard keys really fast.

baught a cheapo Rii RK909 wireless cause its only 40 bucks.
i like but the switches kinda seem off to me.
the most important thing for me was the layout.
i like that it has the function keys alligned with the number row.
pic related baught the quertz layaut cause kraut.
should i replace the switches though?
>>
>>107716980
solder millmax sockets into it so you don't have to desolder/solder any switches into it more than once
>>
>>107717045
why?
the switches already are hotswappable on the rk909 wireless.
>>
>>107717070
o my mistake, i googled "rii rk909 wireless" and it was a soldered board

yeah replace the switches if you don't like them. recommend
>gateron yellow for linear switches
>kailh box white for clicky switches
>mmd princess tactile for tactile switches
>>
>>107717083
probably because the rk909 wired verison is not hotswap.
im looking at the gateron switches right now.
thanks for your input anon.

My PSU died recently after ~11 years, I thought it was a bit strange given that a Gold Seasonic PSU shouldn't crap out right after the warranty is up and the other older components are still fine, but since 11 years is a long time I let it go

Then recently another PC in my building had a Gold Corsair PSU die after just 2 years, way before the warranty was up, I thought that was really strange, could it be that the fact my building started getting lots of power outages recently be wearing out these PSUs much faster than they'd usually last? Is a UPS the only way to get around it?

Something shorted on my HD and the partition data is gone. The data is all there. I normally use minitool for lightweight crap like formatting and changing letters or managing ext4 on windows, and it have a tool to do partition retrieval but I got paywalled. I'm failing to pirate it too. Can you guys point me the way for a free tool that if not rewrites the partition, at least retrieves the data? Preferable windows, but I can deal with linux too. Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series if you want the Real Business Experience™
>Other business laptops are welcome in /tpg/ (Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook)

Why ThinkPad?
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap
>Excellent keyboards, tactile feel and quiet + the TrackPoint
>Great durability: magnesium roll cage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop
>Easy to repair (most models), upgrade & maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model, spare parts easy & cheap to obtain
>Excellent Linux & *BSD support
