These machines have more RAM (and it's ECC!) than I could ever need, and generally better build quality, but the fans (even in the 4U models) are louder (though I can replace them), and even at idle, they can consume more power and run hotter.

I am regularly amazed that we pretend folders are the right way to organise files. They’re entirely arbitrary. Every competent file system ignores them to its best ability. Why can’t I have a file in two folders? Why does one have to be a “reference”? Why can’t I filter for files that exist in 3 folders with X extension?

We’ve been played for absolute fools.

how do you guys handle multiple work projects and personal projects at the same time? how do you deal with all of the fresh ideas?
work has been giving me every sw project under the sun the past 2+ years to solo dev alone and write user guides for. management and customers love my work - multiplatform apps, web, server, etc. the tight deadlines for dumb reasons suck ass.

my issue is I've received so many new projects, I can't keep every work project and a handful of my personal projects in my head. my personal projects are years old and I like to work on them sometimes. they're mostly 90-95% complete. work projects are in the same languages as my personal projects, so they benefited from my old work. wat do? do I just become a competitor and win the contracts myself?

>how do you guys handle multiple work projects and personal projects at the same time? how do you deal with all of the fresh ideas?
I have AI do it for me, unironically. I have much more free time to do these things now.
>>

>do I just become a competitor and win the contracts myself?
That's what I'm working on now. My company recently had a "back to office" and wanted to require me in, despite the fact that I have always been remote. So I told them so long and thanks for all the fish. My next move is to rewrite the product I built for them with all the suggestions they never took seriously and beat them to death in the market.

Unless you got the marketing and sales skills and connections to back it up: no you won't. Doesn't matter how good the product is.

If everyone gets a free $2000/m UBI, then rent and morgage for everyone will jump by $2000/m, since landlords and banks know you can cough it up.

UBI only works in a highly socialist state where everything is state-provided. And that's hoping you don't have a nasty totalitarian/authoritarian regime like literally every socialist/communist state that ever existed and will ever exist.

The biggest problem we have today is that Lobbying has replaced democracy.
Policy is steered by corporations and billionaires, not representatives. Today's 'representatives' are just political prostitutes who openly admit to being lobbied by AIPAC and other Jewish organizations.
People outnumber the rich by a lot, but the rich are organized. They will always put their money in favor of their class of people, even if they have to sacrifice those below them.
What's scary is that no matter what they do, the poor are fine staying as crabs in a bucket.
It gives credit to the saying; "You deserve what you tolerate".

>You are the type of person that would sell farmer’s tools to buy him month supply of bread.
That farmer could have billions in liquid assets overnight if he wanted and buy enough bread to feed the entire world several times over. It would quite literally take decades to properly spend his fortune helping people and can be done without dropping any of his quality of life even a tiny bit. Plenty of time for that supposed utopia to happen. He won't do something like that because he doesn't care and doesn't believe his own shit and go fuck yourself for trying to defend a goddamned billionaire.
He can do what he wants with his fortune but I don't have to pretend that he's a good person or has good insight into the future. His actions do not reflect his words.

All AI freakout posts are stuffed with false equivalence. Every one.

Claude does a lot of webdev for me, but it's no different from hiring someone that I direct, just faster. People mistake the process for the finished piece; it's amusing that artists chimp out that AI invalidates the cost of creating artwork but only engineers seem to get completely mind-fucked over the exact same thing.

>Song submission rules/guidelines
Upload the file somewhere, preferably in a lossless format, and post the link here. If you want to update your track, make a new post.
Include the song title in the post, and make it clear that your song is a submission for the album.
Optionally you may include cover art for your track, but please confirm that the image in your post is the cover art or it won't be included. You may not use your real artist name.
Songs that contain anything against YouTube's policies won't be uploaded on YT, but will still be added to the album.
By default, tracks will be normalised to -14 LUFS (integrated loudness) in the release. You may specify a lower loudness for your track.
Use of AI is banned. This includes AI generated stems, samples, and effects. "AI" includes all neural network-based models and not hard-coded automation/procedural generation. You are allowed to ask an LLM about music-related questions, but asking it to give you musical ideas (eg. generating a chord progression) is already a no-no.

There's like 10,000 lines in some theme's gtk.css. Good luck finding out what is going on.
You can probably override this with your own gtk.css in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css etc
Unless this issue is related to actual graphical elements of the theme.
To this day I have no idea how to create a theme from scratch...

Half-venting, half-serious inquiry: why the fuck is Google shadowbanning (shown to only me while logged in, not shown to anyone else or to me while logged out) the following comments. Separate comments on separate lines, all shadowbanned:
>About hardware: even back in 2016 I needed 128Gb of RAM to provide a service for my clients on a level that they expected, in 2025 that's a Threadripper with 8x32 and 24Gb of VRAM at minimum.

>My company will outperform anyone who has inferior software, hardware, and less efficient pipelines. Outperform on money and on time. Clients expect top end results with a quick turnaround.

>Another example, I have 3 large screens because over a year, it's far cheaper for me to buy 2 extra monitors, than to constantly waste time alt+tabbing to view references or communicate, etc.

>But nobody would ever need 3 screens because you can do everything with 1 screen also, right? That's the difference between tinkerers and professionals: time = money.

(arguing with a faggot saying my shitty thinkpad and opensource toys can do *everything*)

Is Google fucking retarded? I haven't been able to converse with anyone for the better part of the last 5 years. The same bullshit, have a casual conversation going (or try to have), then check it while logged out and see that 70% of what I've posted has never appeared publicly. Sometimes the most mundane shit gets autodeleted like: "I wish you happy holidays, mate". At one point I tried to help some guy out by typing only "You can find it by googling *some mundane shit about computing*" aaaand shadowbanned. I may use my phone and an alt account, still the same shit. What in the ungodly fuck is going on? Not a single swearword. Not a single no-no topic. And then there's endless fucking botposts with the same exact spamcontent on every fucking major fagtuber 15 seconds after publishing a video. Oh then they are powerless, nothing they can do. Fuck them with a rusty iron spike. What the fuck is their problem?

It's broken AI moderation. My guess is that it removes between 10-30% of all youtube comments posted. It's almost more likely to do that if you have ever posted anything negative on any youtube video, even if the comment you are posting now isn't negative. I've even had this issue when somebody posts a comment on my youtube channel. I cant see the comment normally but I can in youtube studio and there is no option to make the comment visible to everybody, even if I heart the comment.
>>
>>107699947
There's another thing where shadowbanned comments only appear in the notification box of the person who it was directed at and to nobody else. When you see 2 people talking with a lot of context missing then they're probably going back and forth through their notification box and you're only seeing less than third of what they're posting.

Needing some advice on music players for Linux. Running Antergos. Installed a few, and so far the only viable option is Audacious, but it is missing some creature comforts that I got with foobar. Most importantly, I want one that will support some sort of convolver, since I have impulse waveforms for all of my cans. I am using a Schiit stack to play everything. Anyone have any recommended players?

I've used Rhythmbox my whole life, I never changed it out of simple laziness. I even tried some simpler ones, but they didn't index my music directory. I have something around 25TB of songs in total, so the ideal would be for the music player to index everything so that I wouldn't have to read it every time I search for an album or song.
The bad side of Rhythmbox is that it's not very easy to customize. There are several things I would remove or add, but I don't because it's not a modular music player. One thing I miss, for example, is showing album covers in the search, this helps a lot, especially for songs in other languages like Egyptian, Chinese, Japanese, etc.
