I am regularly amazed that we pretend folders are the right way to organise files. They’re entirely arbitrary. Every competent file system ignores them to its best ability. Why can’t I have a file in two folders? Why does one have to be a “reference”? Why can’t I filter for files that exist in 3 folders with X extension? We’ve been played for absolute fools.
>>107695700The folders are technically the tags, and if people want to organize them, that's pretty simple. And you can write a script to tag files based on their folders with ease.
>>107695590>If a PDF is not digitizedExamples of an analog .pdf?>Hierarchical folders persist because they are the simplest thing to implementNo. They exist because one of the critical functions of a filing system is actually knowing where the files are. Good luck achieving that wtih tags recycled across multiple instances.>Giving files as many tags as possible based on metadata would be great. And ultimately where your flaw lies.Firstly, applying these tags. Importantly, as the pool of files grows the pool of tags grows exponentially.>>107695711>The folders are technically the tagsExcept, technically, they are not.

Reminder of the following:1. Google will merge ChromeOS and Android to form a FOSS Linux-based desktop OS that will be 100% free to download and use. https://www.androidauthority.com/aluminium-os-android-for-pcs-3619092/2. Windows will be severely affected by this new, totally free competitor and will bleed marketshare.3. All existing Linux desktop environments will be totally outclassed by Google's top secret desktop UI and underlying OS. Even Linux users will give up on shit like Mint and just use Google's desktop for their daily driver OS. 2026 will finally be the year of the Linux desktop, and it will be because Google will do to desktops what they did to phones. You know it's coming. Don't act like this was a surprise.
>>107690228>100% free>top secret desktop UI and underlying OSabsolute zozzle
>>107695597The DE/window managers in Android and Chrome OS were their own design though. If nothing else they had to implement excellent scaling at any arbitrary DPI.
>>107690228>2. Windows will be severely affected by this new, totally free competitor and will bleed marketshare.I don't think that a lot of people spend money on Windows because they have to. You can run it free without any issues.>>107690228>>3. All existing Linux desktop environments will be totally outclassed by Google's top secret desktop UI and underlying OS.I know it's a troll post. But I bealive that all desktop environments on linux are way too amateurish. KDE has good features, but man. It's UI is just terrible.
>>107695741Terrible compared to what? Gnome, Mac OS or God forbid Windows? Windows' UI is the most amateurish of them all, especially considering KDE operates on a shoestring budget compared to Microsoft's resources. There are so many bugs, 30 year old UI elements, inconsistencies, poorly implemented features, poor performance when doing basic tasks like launching the start menu on 11, or opening a folder with a lot of items, it's embarrassing.I've never seen two mouse cursors at the same time in KDE, but I have on Windows 10.
>>107695822>Terrible compared to what?To Macos and Windows. I don't talk about the features, stability and performance. User interface as spacings, typography, iconography is just terrible. Kde looks like it was made by a developer who never designed anything in his live, without any designer's help.

What mitigations? Real hardware designers are able to make all these things work. Most, if not all, security problems are because of software bugs.>People who maximize obfuscation to the detriment of function are the same kind of psychopaths who win political backstabbing contests for funding. That's literally it.Like the RISC people who keep ignoring hardware innovation and pushing a bad idea that's 40 years out of date. They still treat the FPU like it's something you have to buy separately and is on a separate chip. RISC still fails even though it took over academia for the last 40 years and is pushed by angry people who want to replace everything.

>>107695235>/g/ fabs a RISC-V chip project starting in 2026...?There have been projects (some sponsored by Google) where you could have small chips made on a wafer boat. These have had a RISC-V chip as a controller, so there is nothing new or dramatic there. What would be interesting, would be if 4ch could hatch a new ISA and a new and better micro-architecture. And this could be tested on an FPGA before committing it to silicon.

Half-venting, half-serious inquiry: why the fuck is Google shadowbanning (shown to only me while logged in, not shown to anyone else or to me while logged out) the following comments. Separate comments on separate lines, all shadowbanned:>About hardware: even back in 2016 I needed 128Gb of RAM to provide a service for my clients on a level that they expected, in 2025 that's a Threadripper with 8x32 and 24Gb of VRAM at minimum.>My company will outperform anyone who has inferior software, hardware, and less efficient pipelines. Outperform on money and on time. Clients expect top end results with a quick turnaround.>Another example, I have 3 large screens because over a year, it's far cheaper for me to buy 2 extra monitors, than to constantly waste time alt+tabbing to view references or communicate, etc.>But nobody would ever need 3 screens because you can do everything with 1 screen also, right? That's the difference between tinkerers and professionals: time = money.(arguing with a faggot saying my shitty thinkpad and opensource toys can do *everything*)Is Google fucking retarded? I haven't been able to converse with anyone for the better part of the last 5 years. The same bullshit, have a casual conversation going (or try to have), then check it while logged out and see that 70% of what I've posted has never appeared publicly. Sometimes the most mundane shit gets autodeleted like: "I wish you happy holidays, mate". At one point I tried to help some guy out by typing only "You can find it by googling *some mundane shit about computing*" aaaand shadowbanned. I may use my phone and an alt account, still the same shit. What in the ungodly fuck is going on? Not a single swearword. Not a single no-no topic. And then there's endless fucking botposts with the same exact spamcontent on every fucking major fagtuber 15 seconds after publishing a video. Oh then they are powerless, nothing they can do. Fuck them with a rusty iron spike. What the fuck is their problem?
>>107695479>i have noticed this, if you say negative things about a topic, it gets like zero likes 75% of the timeAbsolutely not, if you watch any AI Topic it's not positive, it's rather very negative. It's more to do with the YouTube drone culture/ mindset and expectation, nuance is illegal, and if you try then you are the next that get's 'canceled'.
>>107695479Copy the direct link to your (or better, the parent) comment, open a new private window in your browser, go there and see if it appears. Back before they utilized AI to sanitize everything they had some kind of system where the words were "weighted". When your comment touched on too many naughty topics (higher weight), or had too many negative words in it (e.g. "bad", "ignorant", "horrible", "catastrophic", "insane", "accident", etc, words with even remotely "negative" undertones, usually lower weight), you reached the weight threshold and got your comment deleted or shadowbanned. It could be tricked by splitting your comments in smaller segments thus lowering the overall weight of the comment, or learning to write between the lines. I messed with their classic auto-censor for almost 3 years, copying, rewriting, splitting comments to find out exactly what words triggered the shadowban or deletion, until they started utilizing GPT and discarded the old system. The AI is scary good at even reading between the lines now, so that's no help in many cases.
