Why do server people recommend not having too many files in a folder?
For example instead of having this path: /1/187651231.jpg
They say you should have: /1/87/65/187651231.jpg

But I can't remember a reason, it can't be seeking if the disk is SSD right?

In a VM you just install like you'd be using a real PC from that era generally. There are sometimes some small extra steps but if you're familiar enough with old games you just know them by now. But wine is definitely convenient and supports a lot now, sure.
>>
>>107598271
Yeah that's probably the easiest way.
Problem with wine/proton is that if you're new user it's difficult to find concise walkthrough of how to set it up. When googling around you'll find all sorts of r-eddit posts and they often just hurt more than help. Real workflow is deceptingly simple. Just a few environment variables along with dll overrides when needed.

So the later noob 1.1 has been deemed to be worse than the original.
>>
>>107598687
Noob vpred 1.0 is the latest I think. At least by date published on civit (Dec 1 2024 for EPS 1.1, Dec 22 2024 for vpred 1.0), I don't actually remember in which order they appeared on their huggingface, but probably the same.

>>107598735
If you are returning from a long break, I recommend CFG++ samplers (use about 0.7-1.7 cfg with them, I mostly use 1.0) for vpred checkpoints, especially the unmixed noob version. It fixes the color explosions without the need for other snake oils. VPred shitmixes probably work fine either way though.

I work as a software developer, I have one year of experience and one year at this job (first job after graduating college). To keep things brief and simple, I've led a team on a flagship product for the company, have delivered new features fast, gathered business requirements, did most of the backend for the entire app, had a demo where the executive of the entire company said and I quote "this is the best demo we've ever had here" and I make $60k in the US. My boss has said a handful of times now that he "needs to pay me more", but how much more can I realistically ask for? I feel like the last year has been a test run of sorts and now that they've seen I'm dependable, take charge, and deliver everything they ask for, asking for a typical salary in the industry isn't much of an ask. I was thinking of asking for $80k and negotiating down to nothing lower than $77k. Thoughts?
>>
>>107598728

Fuck trying to convince people to promote you. Do interviews and leave, they’re never gonna offer you a raise like that.
>>
>>107598742
They bought me a car in cash because my old car died on me a couple weeks before they promoted me. I don't think asking for $20k more when I've shown my worth is asking for a lot. They've also doubled our team size in the last 6 months so there's clearly money floating around
>>
>>107598757

Well there’s no shame in asking, frame as like “what do I need to do to get a raise? i did x, y and z”. If you get a no, leave.

Why aren't they relasing 1080p movies on DVD? You could easily fit a 1080p movie on a DVD disc with modern codecs and compression techniques like H.264 MPEG-4 AVC H.264 MP4 AV1 VP8 VP9 WEBM and other.

Maybe it'd have made sense if 720p came out separately and first, but few people had hdtv's at all in 2006 when bluray came out.
there was potentially a market for it, like a cheaper dvd-based format aimed at the lower end of people who got 720p tv's, but format adoption is hard enough, there are several failed disc media formats most don't even know about

This is not a drill, it's finally confirmed that China has a working EUV prototype since early 2025, it's just undergoing testing and verification right now, expected to enter large scale production by 2028-2030.

>In a high-security Shenzhen laboratory, Chinese scientists have built what Washington has spent years trying to prevent: a prototype of a machine capable of producing the cutting-edge semiconductor chips that power artificial intelligence, smartphones and weapons central to Western military dominance, Reuters has learned. Completed in early 2025 and now undergoing testing, the prototype fills nearly an entire factory floor.

>The availability of parts from older ASML machines on secondary markets has allowed China to build a domestic prototype, with the government setting a goal of producing working chips on the prototype by 2028, according to the two people. But those close to the project say a more realistic target is 2030, which is still years earlier than the decade that analysts believed it would take China to match the West on chips.

>The breakthrough marks the culmination of a six-year government initiative to achieve semiconductor self-sufficiency, one of President Xi Jinping's highest priorities. While China's semiconductor goals have been public, the Shenzhen EUV project has been conducted in secret, according to the people.

>It's literally to cut costs on copper
No, not really. It *could* be used for that but the cost of copper isn't that much all things considered so rather its used to be able to drive more power out of the outlets by using the same amount of copper.
So similarly as your average circuit is wired 120V 20A = 2400W , we use 230V 20A = 4600W for the same amount of copper.
I mean maybe you could save a little bit of copper even with same amperage circuits if you wire up every outlet in its own circuit because of the low voltage? While here its common to wire one circuit per bedroom so theres all the rooms outlets under the one circuit, as 4600W is plenty for the room.

How it affects normal daily life though is that you can do things like plug stuff on extension cords without worrying about it, whether you trip a breaker or not due to high draw is not something that people need to generally worry about, it doesnt matter if you use your stove and your kettle and microwave all at same time its all good

>>
>>107598807
You don't get what he is saying though and you are wrong here, the inline plug fuses ONLY make sense with the ring circuit and you having the ring circuit is the reason why the plugs in the switchboard are rated higher.

You clearly don't understand how the circuits in a normal radial setup work like the fuse in the switchboard serves the same function as your plug fuse, therefore the plug fuse aint needed
The switchboard fuse is rated to exactly what the circuit can handle it isnt some 50A fuse for the entire house but rather dozens of 20A fuses for each different circuit
There is no risk of overloading any particular circuit because they are not wired together but separate from each other

>It's literally to cut costs on copper
lol
>which is why the US didn't have a problem with 120v stuff.
it did have a problem with it but undoing history seems to be impossible for americans to achieve. basically what happened is when edison created his dc system, it was 120v and he owned the market. everything you can think of requiring power conformed to this standard that edison had pulled out of his asshole based on what his network of street lamps required to operate. other generators that appeared also stuck to this 120v to power very same lamps. basically america fucked itself in ass over street lights and never recovered, all thanks to edison
