I’ve been running Linux Mint for over four years and was happy with it until the recent drama, especially the AI security scan fiasco. It really shook my trust in the maintainers.I started looking for alternatives, but after testing hundreds of distros, none of them met my expectations for stability and reliability. I began to accept that my system would just break from time to time until I found a thread recommending Windows Seven as a rock-solid alternative. After researching, it turns out this version is still surprisingly usable. It’s stable, reliable, and with extended updates plus a good firewall, security isn’t a major issue.Has anyone else tried this? How did it go for you? Personally, I haven’t run into a single problem so far.
>>107665286The future is indeed looking bleak for Linux on the desktopAI, rust, constant drama and sabotage, bugs piling on top of other bugs, competent people being kicked out and harassed by corpos and tranny groomersEvery major Linux project has been failing recently and nobody seems to notice this, shit feels state sponsored at this point>>107670252Torvalds was always an idiot but atleast he doesn't wear a dress.I can't imagine what's going to happen when he kicks the bucket or quits, which might happen soon given how jaded he isWill blue hairs take over? >>107670721yeah i'm getting tired of this garbagewindows 7 might be a little old for me but i'm not surei heard good things about 8.1 as well

>>1076710058.1 is the middle groundeverything that works on 10 works on it as well + you still get updates with 2012 r2it has a little bit of cancer but still nowhere near as much as 10/11 so it's a solid choice but if you can do everything you want on 7 then go with that
Almost another year done of total Apple supremacy.I mog you.
>>107670951I never had another tablet so I can't compare. But iOS is just terrible.Swiping from the side of the screen to go back only works in some cases, not allSwiping down to bring notifications doesn't work unless you bring it down like 1/4th of the screenCan't swipe down from anywhere, have to actually move your finger to the topSwiping down on the right side to bring the control buttons down, then you swipe up to dismiss it and instead it scrolls down even further to the next screen. It doesn't even have app notification icons on the status bar. You have to swipe down just to see if you have any notifications at all. It's ass
>>107670970i dont have those problems, sounds like a skill issue
>>107669727I just sold my iPhone 16 pro max, my MacBook m4 pro and my apple watch because of how awful the iPhone is. The phone is so buggy its insane. Alarm clock still fails to work out of nowhere despite being a over 10 year old bug. Keyboard is useless and missing universal back gesture is just awful design. The new iOS 26 ruined dark mode and made it look like a cheap toy, guy who bought my iPhone thought it was fake because he never used iOS 26 in person. Thats how shitty iOS is. But yeah riddled with 10 year old bugs that will get you fired and just bad design choices in general. I am a serious man so I need serious tech which is why I got an S25 ultra that actually fucking works. Its a shame because I liked the apple watch a lot and the macbook as well except Tahoe. Ugly as shit.

Are these things even worth it anymore? I have the original 8GB pic related. Now the 16GB is almost $170 and the HAT is pretty useless though its done a 2x street price since launch. I could get a lattepanda or something. I like the idea of a Pi5 16GB: enough memory and processor to run better/larger LLMs off 2.5W at ~1 token/sec. Even a solar battery. It's cool to have a philosopher in a box like that. The tinker side GPIO and stuff doesn't interest me for personal projects. Anyway should I just get a Jetson Nano or N150 or something.
>>107669948this, the only reason to buy a Pi anymore is to take advantage of the few niche features it hasLike usb gadget modeand composite outand the camera connectorIf you just want a "server" it's time to get a n150 box.
>>107669797The best and most useful pi is the cheapest one. That one that's like $30. I don't understand the point of the fancy ones unless you have some really specific need for the power.

>>107669692Linux users will really make shit up and larp about having a more useful os instead of being honest and admitting their hobby is tinkering. Gentoo gets fucking mogged in usefulness and usability by whatever the fuck gnome is pushing as a flagship distro (I genuinely cannot be assed to look it up, gnome is that ass), literally any other distro would be a better choice. Gentoo’s whole gimmick of “le everything is compiled from source” is a fun tech demo, but has no real advantage aside from better support on hyper niche or machines from over 20 years ago. Why lie? Why pretend like gentoo is useful? Just because you want to kick yourself in the nuts every time you install a package doesn’t mean this is useful to others.
>>107667780im so sorry but there's nothing else i couldn't care less about
>>107669774low iq baithere is a response for any curious zoomer who wants an actual answer:>allows for inserting your modifications into the source code before updating>allows having multiple versions of a package/library eliminating dependency hell to a degree>supports both systemd AND openrc>amazing CLI installation media>you dont have to remove random shit you didnt ask for >has binary packages if you dont want coompiling>allows you to remove unwanted features from packages if they are problematic/you want optimization/you want to decrease attack surface >supports every single fucking architecture under the sun including arm64

Tagging Classical music has to be the most annoying shit in the private tracker realm. Especially because of that dumb 180 character limit of RED.

Why do all "platforms" make recaps at the end of the year?
>>107669547>Don't give a company information you don't want them to haveoh they’ll take it. whether offered up freely or not.If you’ve so much as stepped foot in a grocery store in the last 5 years they’ve created a profile on you. even if you brought no electronics and left without buying anything. they’ve tagged you with facial recognition and gait analysis. they know what they can advertise to you based on how you made your way through the store. they’ve gathered everything they possibly can and they’ll sell it to anyone who’ll pay.
>>107669710that's why I put a different rock in my shoe every time I walk in
>>107669205It's a really easy feature to implement and have a lot of impact in terms of free advertising. You just show some statistics and say that 'you're a stray ajzz cat who eats slop a lot'. People share it in messengers and some stories in Instagram.
>>107669205People love it when you tell them something about themselves, as long as it's positive or neutral at least. It's why they go to fortune tellers.

>>107664336when covid happened, I was mostly confined to my computer screen and because of it I lost my vision to see far. take care of your eyes bros... it was mostly caused by me browsing and gaming with no other lights on but my monitor.
if someone from the 50s woke up in my body, first thing they'd wonder is why there's so much flickery static in their everyday vision.when it's gaming, it's 'make sure to take regular breaks!' but when it's work, you're meant to sit staring at a computer all day.
I've spent a ridiculous amount of time in front of screens since I was a kid.I kept being told I'll ruin my eyesight.I'm 32 now and my vision is still literally perfect.
