Wall light switch in my apartment is older than me. Clicked and abused every day for decades. Still fine.

$80 “gaming” mouse starts double clicking after a few months.

Err... it can be tricky to explain...
>>
if you use a light switch twice a day (both on and off), it'll take 685 years to reach a million clicks
>>

How fast can you perform a normal double-click? Wouldn't be surprised if the mouse already has internal corrections for it.
>>
>>107718939
A "normal" double-click, a typical computer user averages between 140 ms and 190 ms for the interval between clicks.
Operating systems like Windows default to a 500 ms (0.5 second) window to ensure accessibility for broader groups such as the elderly or poop-colored "persons."
Experienced users including hardened gamers often land in the 80-150 ms range. In Windows, the fastest double-click setting is usually capped at 200 ms.
When a switch fails (due to oxidation or low wetting current), it may register a "bounce" or second click in a range of about 1-10 ms. This is far away from the 69ms maximum speed that any human has ever achieved an intended double-click with one finger (40ms may be achieve with two fingers).

What's so special about Arch? Why does it get memed on so hard? People say it has bleeding edge packages but why is that so important? Is it better for gaming or something? What makes it different from Mint?

This, gaymer faggots think they can brag about using Arch, while using a meme fork. Real pros, install Arch without installers.
>>
>>107709451
Arch is nice. There's some odd shit like pacman telling me things will be installed before their dependancy, and I don't know why it's doing that or what that would do. (I always exit the update and update those dependancy's first). But overall I like the ecosystem and it just werks. I tried to use fedora for half a day and it instantely didn't have a package I was using on my desktop on arch. Found an appimage for an alternative and the program was broken. Decided to call it and head back to an arch based system.

assuming this is x86-64

first line: &x + 1
means
take the address of the pointer to x and increment it by sizeof(int *)
so you have int ** and you increment it by the size of the type it points to: sizeof(int *)
so its gonna be 8
and the second line : x + 1
emans
take the pointer to x and increment it by sizeof(int)
so you have int * and you increment it by the size of the type it points to: sizeof(int)

the answer is 8, 4

Younger generations already do. AI simply is the future in a lot of industries. It probably won't fully replace people like many low IQ normies say, but it will be integrated into many peoples workloads and those that can't adapt will be left behind.
It's very similar to when engineering moved from manual dafts to autoCAD. It didn't matter how talented of an engineer you were, if you couldn't adapt to the software your lack of efficiency compared to someone who could negated any value you had and you were let go. Give it 5-10 years and people will be posting screenshots of post by AI detractors and laughing at them.
>>
>>107718942
Cool post but CAD fucking sucks and I'd much rather still be drafting by hand. The last people who did manual drafting in my office retired around 2008 or so and I still miss working with them.

ls, cd, cp, mv, rm, and grep solve most file management problems.

However, once a media collection becomes large you may want a dedicated tool. Terminals are outdated technology for this task though. You can get thumbnails these days but it seems like such a hack. It would be better if people stopped making TUI programs and just made GUIs with TUI aesthetics and keyboard centric controls.

The last use of TUI programs seems to be the client server model that allows one to use them over SSH, but are ANSI escape sequences still the best way to do this? In any case, if I'm not running a program remotely, there's no need to emulate a terminal. The ancient X Window System shows we don't need terminal emulators for remote access anyway.

>vifm
surprised to see only two mentions of vifm in this entire thread. compared to other terminal FM, it flies under the radar. but if you're familiar with vim, its the best one.

a lot of people are saying they rely only on the command line. i used to be like this but being able to visualize your files + convenient actions make it worth it

Never underestimate the stupidity of midwits, they are the worst of both words. They lack the wisdom of down to earth blue collar workers while also not being intelligent enough to figure certain things out. It gets worse in tech workers, they get told they're smart all the time which makes them arrogant because they're not quite smart enough to understand that they aren't actually extremely intelligent, people only tell them that because tech work can be indecipherable to laymen.

The difference is Windows 10 IOT enterprise LTSC 2021 will get security updates till 2032.

We're entering a consumer tech winter with increasing RAM prices, people will be staying on AM4 until the AI bubbles passes. AM4 and Zen 3 works perfectly fine on LTSC 2021.

Most apps will support windows 10 for a very long time, probably another 10 years, I expect app support to last longer than how long it lasted on windows 7 after it went EOL.

>People have been fighting over it for as long as there have been people.
Though empires came and went and a lot of history has indeed taken place there, the indigenous population (Palestinian Levantines) has remained the same for millennia, with some admixture from foreign populations. There is a difference between imperialism where you annex a territory so you can tax the people who live there and develop the land's resources, and settler colonialism where the end goal is to completely eradicate the native population.

I have a decent PC running Debian but all of my gaming is done on an offline Xbox One i got for $100 at a thrift store. I like being able to compartmentalize my gaming to one device + it's nice to have something that just works for once. It's definitely not for everyone but I'm a casual anyway.
