Now that I think about it, in the XP era multimedia was the buzzword of the day, so this feature makes sense in that context.
Today multimedia is something you consoom in your browser and stream to your computer, not store locally, so why would they add such a feature?

I work at a hospital there are so many items that cost like 15k that do most simplest tasks. For example this pill counter which uses computer vision of some sort to count pills costs literally 2k to 10k.

Can any anons tell me how they're getting away with such outsourcing price gouging

I can actually answer this.
Worked in a hospital years ago, one day my manager has this catalogue on her desk. I was working IT but kept getting dragged into odd jobs because it was A&E (ER for burgers), the department was in a permanent state of chaos and the NHS is a joke.
ANYWAY
On this day she needed to order some stuff and I was helping with the order, but the prices for even incredibly basic stuff was insane. Like £75 for a fucking light bulb, a standard light bulb, nothing special. I was shocked and asked her why the hell we pay those prices, why can't we just go to the shop and buy one for like £2 AND we don't have to wait for delivery. She explained
>NHS has a government appointed contract with this company to provide goods, so if we want to buy anything using hospital funds, it has to be done through this company. We don't have a choice
So the answer is basically corruption.

Option 1: Pay a filthy jeet $12 an hour to hand-count 10k pills. Good luck getting accurate numbers even once.
Option 2: Spend 3k on an accurate machine that doesn't get sick and doesn't spill curry goat onto the pills.

Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series if you want the Real Business Experience™

Why ThinkPad?
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap
>Excellent keyboards, tactile feel and quiet + the TrackPoint
>Great durability: magnesium roll cage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop
>Easy to repair (most models), upgrade & maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model, spare parts easy & cheap to obtain

The workstation models with dedicated GPUs seem like a poor price:performance compared to some of the chintzy gamer laptops out there. The problem is, I fucking hate the way most of those look and refuse to carry around something that says "PREDATOR" on it.
My main use case will be clandestine UE5 dabbling while at work, albeit in smaller projects avoiding ray tracing, nanite etc. Is there some value I'm missing, or is a gamer laptop a better buy for my situation and I just turn off all of the RGB shit?

Also: I found a previous employer's equipment (Dell G10 I think) to be pretty underwhelming with a 3060 laptop GPU, but the model with a 4070 I made them send me instead was mostly OK so that's how I've been evaluating my options so far. Last thing, has the used laptop market already adjusted (gouged) for RAM fuckery?

Bought an X13 Gen 2 i5 11th gen and it won't update and install some drivers for some reason T-T it got super hot when I tried to and the battery was draining really fast but that got fixed with the heating issue randomly though it still drains like a percent every minute or less. Is that normal? should I try return it if I can't get it fixed? It said it had almost a 100% battery health which was a bit weird but it looked like it had no wear at all anywhere. pls halp ;-;

>Detroit: Become Human
You'll need a dGpu (or eGpu if you want to deal with it) for that. You might want to reconsider if it's actually worth getting a laptop with such a beefy card of just getting a cheap laptop alongside a cheap desktop. You would probably have to go for something like a p53 with a quadro rtx 3000 or better to be able to play it at a stable 60fps on 1080p low. And you can forget about such frames on 1440p.
If you do decide to go for it, consider the following thinkpads: P53, P73, P15/P17/T15P gen 1/2 (or even newer). Dell precision and HP zbook are also options. Or just get a gaming laptop, I have no clue what to look for there though.

I could never. It's like the most powerful lolcow alive (debatable) who pisses off people I don't like just by existing.
Maybe if he ruins something I care about I'll consider it, but so far so good.

New Zeihan just dropped. Firstly, the Reuters article is straight up CCP propaganda, it's 100% fake, just another chinese psyop. 2ndly, even if it was true, it doesn't actually mean anything. It was directly reversed engineered and cobbled together via old ASML EUV parts, China didn't actually make anything themselves, they just glued a bunch of old ASML EUV parts together into a barely functional machine. They can't actually make any of the high tech parts themselves. They are still decades away from mass production of true EUV.

Let's look at the timeline here. As the report states, it will be 2030 before they can produce a single chip from it. A super shitty chip with lots of defects and horrible yields as the EUV is a secondhand piece of shit, so it's not going to viable even for small scale production. It will take another decade after 2030 to improve the EUV machine until it has the performance of ASML's current EUV machines and and can actually fab 3nm nodes at a decent yield and performance.

And modern fabs needs like dozens of EUV machines per fabs for mass production, with hundreds of fabs needed to produce enough semiconductors for China's needs . Even with a truly viable EUV machine, China will need to build up the supply chain to mass produce the EUV to the tune of dozens a month to catch up to ASML and TSMC's output. Which will take another 15-20 years to build up the the immense domestic EUV supply chain within China.

So add everything together ann we're looking at another 30-40 years before China can mass produce 3nm chips in bulk. And of course, in the 2050-2060ss, ASML will be on next gen lithography beyond even high NA-EUV and TSMC/Intel/Samsung will be on picometer nodes. China will still be decades behind. In fact Zeihan says that 7nm will be the last major node that they will ever fab, after all as Zeihan also notes, don't forget that China is headed towards total economical and demographic collapse by 2030 anyway.
