Does anyone seriously use namecheap anymore? They always claim the domain is taken and try to squeeze you for every last time with a "make offer" button. You can just type in random gibberish and it's "taken" every time.

>Go to domain name website
>Pick a domain name you want to buy
>The domain site purchases the doman name right from under you
>Tells you the domain is taken but you can buy it for 100x the original price.
It would only have to work 1% of the time to break even
>>
>>106513914
Some TLD's cannot be registered at 3rd party registrars.
Especially the 2 letter ones belonging to a country.
There might even be a policy where you have to be a resident of the country or at least have legitimate business there.
Every country can make their own rules when it comes to their TLD.

Don't know about .im though.
>>
>>106516431
You can see at what date a domain was first registered.
So it should be easy to find out if they do this.
>>
>>106516311
I moved one of my domains to porkbun from gandi and registered it for 3 years and it still cost less than gandi's new rates for one year.

Maybe I'm retarded. But I remember namecheap actually being good at some point(literally 10+ years ago).
What happened...well I guess it's completely standard.

I use Yaru-sage icons, but Qmmp and Chromium icons are custom made. Terminal gets its icon from elementary-xfce theme and player is fed from Humanity icons for its control buttons. I know, complicated.

does anyone else have a collection from /desktop/ threads? i have about 480 rare examples now. i skip generic standard "stock" desktops unless they are of a new DE/WM. if it agrees with my criteria, i will save it. operating system non-specific, it needs to show advanced personalization effort from the user.

I agree, so I made a bash script that recursively ACKS FLACS in a given folder using ffmpeg.

In the abstract, yes, bitrot is real, over time all storage mediums will experience errors and corruption of data. In the practical, no, and certainly not to the extent of that pasta. Drive manufacturers know about their error rates and they know how to compensate.

Is Libreboot safe to use? When I read the lead dev's name was Leah, I instantly knew that it was a woman (male). I don't want binary blobs on my machine (coreboot), but I don't know if this new breed of devs are to be trusted. I have NOTHING against mentally ill people or trans individuals, I just don't know if I can trust them with my computer.

(Why are they like this, anyway?)
>>
>
The claim that "Linux devs are trooning out" is inaccurate and relies on a transphobic slur ("trooning out") to spread misinformation. The phrase is used to disparage transgender people and, in this context, to invent a false link between trans identity and unrelated changes within the Linux community.
why is AI lying about it? what is happening to society bros?

>>
>>106516988
C is simpler, but the core of C++ is easier to program in. Refs vs pointers, I choose refs every time.
If you use templates and/or inheritance or other features, the language becomes harder to learn. But you don't have to use those features to get started.
>>

Build a minimal lisp/scheme compiler in C, implement a full scheme/lisp compiler in scheme/lisp and throw away the C version and de-install the c compiler.

I probably have a problem but I installed Bazzite on my main desktop over a month ago and now I feel like just going nuts and installing Linux on everything. I'm installing Mint on my shitty second hand laptop right now. I might end up using this laptop to fuck around on various distros just to see what they each feel like to use.

>>
>>106516742
It doesn't integrate so you don't have context menu support, file associations, etc. If you reinstall a lot, portable programs are a must.
>>
>>106516820
There are tools that force file association even to portable applications.
>>
>>106516865
You can still do it manually through the OS, but then it's no longer portable since it saves to the registry. To me that's not an issue since I just only care about the settings & program data.

So the AM4 X3D cpus are pretty much all gone, and used they go for more than an AM5 9600X+mobo+ram bundle so there's not much point in getting them, I've been stuck on a ryzen 5 2600 for a while do I get a 5500, a 5800XT, or bite the bullet and move to AM5?

GPU wise I feel cucked as the prices are just shitty right now, I could wait it out until the Super series though. I have no qualm about staying with Nvidia, basically want 100% my current GPU (RTX 3070) and at least double the VRAM.
CPU wise, I play nothing but CPU heavy titles, the 9800x3d feels only right.
Ram feels alright.

Software companies claim that generative AI is greatly boosting productivity, so where are the results of this? We should be seeing vastly improved software with new features being added at a faster pace, more frequent releases, and less bugs. Has anyone actually seen an example of this happening with any software?

I see a lot of posts on the Internet now where somebody asks an AI about the topic and the AI overview is simply the Wikipedia overview. I wonder to myself, why can't people just go to the Wikipedia and read the summary on something? Why must they get it from an AI?

We already know AI is intentionally crippled and neutered, and made by globohomo. Why would you use it?
>>
>>106515804
Theoretical optimal allocation of human resources means that humans should be only doing work that can only be done by humans. This means as new technologies develop it will push humans out of certain areas, which will necessarily pushing them into others. It literally doesn't matter if AI is turning software engineers into janitors - in the long run that just means we'll have more janitors and a cleaner society than we have right now.

Linus can suck my balls. If he's putting out a public site on the public internet then he's giving it out for free. If he wants a private site, he can put everything behind a paywall. If he thinks he can stick a second site's content in my face, then he can suck my balls. If he calls that stealing then I can call him a liar.
