creative and unique, yes it's arch based and most of the arch distros are in pointless, but SteamOS has a console feel, I'd put Bazzite and the Ublue distros also in that tier.

>Look for "warm white COB led strip"
most of these seem to come either with a 12V plug (no power supply) or just the 2 wires
i can re-use old power supplies i have at home but i preffer if they were just USB as thats the simplest way to get them to start up with the computer and turn back off once i turn the PC off (and do the same if i put them on the smart TV)
> Then I plugged them into the same powerbar for my PC that has the PC as a master slave setup so it turns on and off with the PC.

>i dont understand what this means
It's not your fault, I worded that in a retarded way.
My pc is plugged into one of those "pc power bars" where one plug acts as a master to toggle all the others. Hence if I turn my PC on or off, all the other things plugged into it get turned on or off too. You can of course also just plug a USB port into the PC, but that'd take up a port.
>most of these seem to come either with a 12V plug (no power supply) or just the 2 wires
When I look for it, I seem to get options for: just wires, USB plug, USB toggle switch, TUYA usb plug, USB dimmer switch and barrel jack.
Some listings had the USB version sold out, but for example picrel is just 5V USB. Just keep in mind that the cable isn't that long, so you'll need a USB-A to USB-A extension if you really don't want to solder.

Here's some listings I found with just a quick search, I'll write prices with 5V/1m/warm white as reference
https://aliexpress.com/item/1005007683620677.html (2.25€)
https://aliexpress.com/item/1005008216561388.html (2.70€)
https://aliexpress.com/item/1005006519839348.html (3.29€)
You can find many more, even cheaper ones in the bundles section, but if I link too much more I'll get spam filtered.
>>
>>107015505
>one of those "pc power bars"
a power strip?
>>
>>107015568
From my understanding a power strip implies just that you have multiple plugs and maybe (though even that's optional) a physical switch.

The type I was trying to communicate through my ESL-ness is a power strip that is specifically for PCs, usually comes with one or more fuses and has a "master slave" type configuration where one plug is the master and only as long as that plug draws power does the rest of the plugs get power too, thus making it so your PC controls everything.
We've had these since at least the XP days to make it so your peripherals don't stay always on, but no idea if they have a specific name in english.

You know this looks like a bullshit job yet it still see 5.5h of "work" which is way more than I do on an average day.
>>
>>107013892
Here is a simplistic model I see it
Let y be a unit of labour, x be a unit of food.
Lets say a household needs 1x unit of food + 1y labour for housework + kids

In the past for a single income family when only men were expected to work, labour is split such that:
>wagie: 1y for 1x
>housework + kids: 1y
Here a household requires 2y units of labour to function and can be split between both parents.

Now with the normalization of both men and women in the workforce, a dual income family makes this:
>wagie a: 1y for 0.5x
>wagie b: 1y for 0.5x
>housework + kids (unassigned): 1y
With twice the supply of labour, the value of labour is decreased. Wages dont go up because companies want to keep costs down for higher profit. With twice the labour market there will always be someone else willing to take up the job. But with wages the same, because of inflation each unit of labour y is exchanged for less food compared to before. (eg. grocery cost twice as much now).

housework takes a fraction of the work of a normal job have you ever cared for anyone else let alone yourself? How the fuck are people still pretending that cleaning occasionally cooking and random misc daily tasks take anywhere fucking close to 40 hours a week? It Doesn't even take 20 hours a week. It's the same shit as dudes who work a full time arguably non stressful office job and pretending that they have absolutely no energy or time left in the day to do anything at home or with their wife. Get over yourself. Women and kukoidal dudes don't want kids because of the percieved inconvenience it's that simple with emphasis on a particular keyword here.

What's the dumbest, edge case problem you've encountered, software or hardware?
I just figured out that the WiFi card I added to my desktop was interfering with my DisplayPort cable's signal causing artefacts and flickering.
I tried using an older, thicker and presumably better shielded cable with no luck, I added a ferrite beads with no luck, in the end I removed the WiFi adapter and everything works perfectly.
I've read about USB 3.0 interfering with 2.4GHz radios, but I've never seen DisplayPort interfering in such a way.

fifteen years ago or so I spent three hours trying to fix my WoW guildmate's machine. Wouldn't turn on at all. Long story short it was a busted front-panel USB port. The +5v and ground pins were shorted and the mobo/PSU detected the short and refused to power up. Disconnected those and everything was fine.

Had to deal with the machine from hell ~15 years ago.
Constant hardware related bluescreens. I'm talking you couldn't use a browser or open word for five minutes before it'd shit itself, but it could handle stress tests and even gaming no issue.
Logs indicating a different thing each time, dying hard drive (replaced), dying RAM (replaced), GPU (replaced), yada yada.
In the end every component got changed, most multiple times, different driver versions, entirely different part manufacturers, we even switched it from an AMD to an Nvidia GPU at one point suspecting the stellar AMD drivers but nope it still kept bluescreening. Sometimes that thing still haunts me I'm not joking. We were dealing with this piece of shit on and off for over a year.

Now is the time to start picking the boards and CPUs up used for a great price Anon, I massively overpaid for them new in box when I was buying them from 2018-2019, but it turns out you really don't need to do that because they're such good boards, AMD FX chips themselves can take dumb amounts of vcore without dying either, and they've lost so much value that it's a ton of fun doing extreme overclocking for cheap.

GT 1030. My old GPU (Radeon HD 5570) died at an inopportune time, during the first GPU shortage. I wanted to upgrade to a GTX 1050 but cards that were supposed to be $110 jumped up to north of $150 and I didn't have an iGPU so I said fuck it and went for it. It was still an upgrade after all but just too anemic to do much modern gaming. However, it still works and I keep it around in case my current GPU dies and I need something. The fan on it was dying though so I plucked it off and it doesn't even throttle unless the ambient temp is north of like 85F. Throwing a small case fan under it alleviates all throttling concerns.
