>they took our OS>they took our GPU>they took our RAMthe future looks grim. windows 12 will be an AgenticOS (always online btw), consoomer GPU's will be very rare and expensive (phased out by 2030), DDR6? Lol, you will stick to DDR4 and 5, anon. (soldered RAM is the new meta).Windows 10 IoT LTSC and Linux are the only sane options for ""PERSONAL"" computing. But even 10 will die (2032), but I bet since 11 is basically 10 with a different UI, more bugs and spyware... people will backport a lot of shit, even security.Companies HATE that you ""OWN"" stuff. Even anti cheat would be solved, if everyone would be a cloud gaymer, no more optimizations for infinite hardware combos. Piracy would be over, if you only access your gaymes via the cloud. Console fags? Say good bye to your beloved physical media, companies HATE, that you can resell your disc and the dude that bought the disc can resell it again.I hope you have a decent PC, your favorite movies and tv shows as blu ray, your favorite games DRM free and your legal obtained roms backed up.

I don't know jackshit about PCs, and I want to change that.Till now I only used my PC to play games and watch Youtube and I was happy with that, but, lately I've been wanting to REALLY learn how computers work and how to use it "correctly". Learn about hardware and software, even maybe programming! Basically I don't want to be a idiot about computers.Any tips from techmancers anons?
>>107765515Your question is too broad. You could start by building a computer, or buy a used laptop, upgrade the SSD and learn to install Windows/Linux. Yep, I think you should be able to install your OS and be able to upgrade/build your PC. And try to experiment a bit, don't stick to your usual stuff, try to install Mods, understand the filesystem. Install VM software like virtualbox or WSL. Use shortcuts (ctrl + x / c / v)
>>107765515>I've been wanting to REALLY learn how computers workHardware go brrr and computer compute>>107765515>how to use it "correctly"Have a good posture and never use your pc in bed or it'll fuck up your sleep
>>107765515Get an old computer where you have to setup drivers and manage memory manually with a text file.
>>107765515Unless you're a hardware or software engineer, there is no "tech wizard" status. You're a monkey assembling parts and running commands implemented by other people. You don't actually understand how computers work. You're the guy turning the wrench at the repair shop, not the engineer designing the actual motor/transmission.
>>107765515Get a spare PC you can safely fuck around with, and install some linux on it. You must get over the fear of fucking around with your PC, and this is the best way to do it. Most of tech is reading, so when you encounter something you don't understand, google it or ask some LLM for further reading resources. Use Anna's Archive for books. Check CS curriculums for ideas what you should probably know. Watch computerphile. Try to understand what DNS is and why it exists.
I present you with a challenge. Discuss the language in the image attached. However, if you mention transgenders - you lose. Try not to lose!
>>107766284You are a gojeet who thinks spamming if err != nil everywhere is super idiomatic and high IQ, when it is clearly not
>>107766284>monadic error typesuse haskell then. rust doesn't have higher-kinded types, ergo it doesn't support monads or monadic error handling
>>107766451NTA, and you're right that you can't define a concept of a monad in Rust, but the built-in support for the ? operator for the specific cases of Result<_, _> and Option<_> gets you what you need in 99% of cases. It's equivalent to do-notation and is definitely monadic error handling.
>>107766284are you sure?
>>107766539right, but with proper monadic error handling, you'd be able to say "actually, I want to handle exceptions by throwing and catching exceptions" and have the code be exactly the same except for the monad you're using

Over the years I have been noticing more and more people recording everything and anyone with no regard.I dont want to be part of tiktok or instagram short form videos or weird interview things. Especially when you are in places where you cannot just walk away like on airplanes. Is there something out there that makes it so when a camera is pointed at you, the footage becomes useless? Like some high power invisible light that fries the sensor or a jammer or anything really. I am tired /g/.
