Are thinkpads still the best laptops for Linux? I'm looking for a decent one to try out distros on, budget $600-700, used is fine. Any recs?
>>
>>107546092
>What are these "modern comforts"?
screen, weight, battery time, gpu/cpu speed and way less heat.
1k is way too much to waste, I would go Gen 2-3.. at 200-300 eurobucks at most. your trash computer is still pretty much usable.
>>
>>107546696
>screen, weight, battery time, gpu/cpu speed and way less heat
yes, all good points except *maybe* battery time, as I just recently bought a new battery for mine
>your trash computer is still pretty much usable.
it is, that's why I'm still hesitant.
>1k is way too much to waste, I would go Gen 2-3.. at 200-300 eurobucks at most.
In this case I will probably wait another year or two until the 16:10 screen generation becomes cheaper, this is something I'd really like, and which is totally not upgradable.
Also I swapped the keyboard of my x220 from ISO to ANSI, and pretty much every laptop sold here has the ISO layout, and so far there seem to be no X13 gen 5 ansi keyboards available for me.
Maybe I should just buy an IPS panel for the x220 for 90 bucks on Amazon, are these any good? It's still the same 1366x768 resolution, so I feel like this is a waste.

i've never used manjaro, but i've heard this is a common issue, as manjaro artificially delays pacman updates, making it slightly incompatible with pacman packages

Holy shit I'm just checking memory prices now and realizing how much stuff has gone up.
I upgraded 2 X 8G modules on a laptop last October to 2 x 32G modules. At the time those 32G modules were $82. The used value on the 8GB modules is now ~$80. I'm tempted to strip this laptop and sell it for parts, I think the memory is actually worth more than the entire laptop at this point. Ridiculous.
I usually just throw old memory in a box and never deal with it, i'm actually going through all my old memory sticks and throwing them on eBay to get rid of them today. Seems like the time to sell.

Everything there except SQL, PDF, PostScript, and dynamic linking is harmful. Dynamic linking is literally the most natural and fundamental way to call program code. If you have the ability to execute code from RAM, you will invent something like dynamic linking, even if you have no OS or the OS you're using doesn't support it. DOS programs did it. Most of the rest is Unix shit, which is "so superfluous and useless that require no alternative."

I'm not shilling for vaporesso in particular, but their pods have no flaws, and who cares if you're vendor locked on a 30 dollar device? You're gonna change them every year or so anyway so theres no need to obsess over future proofing your device.

>Also puffco 3DXL atomizers shit the bed far too often,
They designed them that way, they're aware of the problem and see it as a benefit. From what people who have torn the 3DXL down say, the 3 pin connector is basically designed so that it'll break itself after extended use because the middle contact point stretches when it gets heated/cooled repeatedly and it seems designed to be somewhat fragile on purpose.

>Also puffco 3DXL atomizers shit the bed far too often
Yep, after mine crapped out on me was when i sold the base and said fuck the puffco. I think you can get them to last longer with regular maintenance cleaning(the deep clean where you soak in isopropyl and etc), but i didnt do that often. But while it lasted i did enjoy it. The flavor was on a whole nother level i didnt even know existed, but i also havent tried literally any other e-rig so idk what to compare it to.

Yeah, corpo wars would never happen unless we were in a full and unabashed corpratocracy. A lot of the corps in cyberpunk books were never that efficient but had efficient arms. Like hyper lethal kill squads but the business wasn't that great overall but it was a monopoly so it won no matter what. We don't even have a cool aesthetic going at the moment.

Getting vaccinated should be optional at least depending on the virus, but then you just have to isolate yourself from the society. Spreading diseases should be considered an act of terrorism. You can't have it both ways. Having the right to kill people by infecting them is no different than having the right to randomly shoot a gun in public places or run people over with a truck. That's not a right you ever had in the first place. No amount of copium can change this absolute fact.

Yes and no. The same way WiFi6 uses the same frequencies as previous versions but with WPA3 authentication, so you're shit out of luck if your card or driver or OS don't implement WPA3.
