I see Stallman has the mindset of an engineer.

My grandfather, a retired civil engineer, taught me that an engineer can write a set of instructions and make extremely detailed diagrams, blueprints, or any other kind of aid (either written or visual) so as to specify how something is meant to be implemented, but an engineer should never lay a single brick or put their hand into concrete mix as part of their job duties, since that is best left to workers assigned to those duties. That is not to say that construction work deserves no merit on its own (my grandfather actually did construction work for a while prior to getting his diploma and has always had a fair amount of respect for handymen), or that actual implementers and installers don't deserve respect, but they should be regarded as people with different responsibilities and duties from actual engineers.

Battle Network was ahead of its time, but computer viruses aren't really anthropomorphized sentient beings, and "cyberspace" isn't actually real.

However if you were looking for the closest thing to a PET in the real world, imo that would be a Flipper Zero.

If you are just talking about making a PET that has some function and looks like a PET for shits and giggles, sure go make one with a rasberry pi.

Any of you guys use Emacs for fiction writing? I made the switch from using LibreOffice recently. It took me a week of fucking around with my config to get things working nice. I like it, but I'm having problems with exporting my work to standard manuscript format (pic related, agents and mags are picky about this and they'll chuck your work in the trash if it's not formatted like this). I have a .ott template that I got off the LibreOffice site, but for some reason, none of the formatting or fonts carry over except in the header section at the very top. How do I get this shit to export properly? I suppose I could just edit the manuscript myself after exporting, but having to edit both my .org file and the exported file would a pain in the ass.

I'm new to this but I like learning so go easy on me.

I've been autistically obsessed with low power consumption lately. I have two ARM Docker hosts in my rack (Radxa Rock 5C and Pi 5), one of my local VLAN and one for my DMZ VLAN. Together they sip around 5-6W idle.

They work great but I was looking into x86. After a lot of experimenting I built a N100 host (ASRock N100DC-ITX) that hits C8 on idle and hits around 4W. To achieve that I had to disable the onboard Realtek and use a PCIe Intel I226, otherwise it's stuck at C0.

The issue is, I wonder if I should keep my DMZ VLAN physically separate through a separate NIC. I got a 2-port I226 but the switch in it (ASM1182e) breaks C-states, only allowing the CPU to go into C3, using around 8-10W idle, which kind of defeats the purpose.

Should I go ahead and use the double ported NIC in exchange for slightly higher power usage to separate the VLANs physically, or should I just stay with the single NIC + trunk? Speaking from a security standpoint.
