Purchasing a phone or car on a payment plan isn't owning it. Sensible people know better than to go into debt for a car or phone. That's why midrange and cheap phones exist.
>>
>>108523509
Functioning adults don't buy flagships on a payment plan, that system is for the impoverished and kids to buy them. Mid range and cheap phones exist for non functional adults and children.

I have a Samsung A-series phone. I'm happy with it. I wanted an affordable phone which could do standard smartphone tasks - calls, texts, email, online banking, photos (as long as the quality is good enough, it doesn't need to be the absolute best). Another good thing is that this phone gets 6 years of security updates from the date of release. Other affordable smartphones on the market usually only get 2 or 3 years of security updates.
>>
>>108523509
How would you know what people with money do? You're here posting fantasy stories about people who buy flagships, cars and homes supposedly being poor. Your cope and lack of knowledge about how the real adult world in non thirdie nations works is funny. No reason to post such useless things, just say you can't afford a $1,200 flagship instead of lying about people who can afford them.
>>
>>108523601
I don't think these anons understand how some adultd really live, lol I spend $1,200 a month at the dispensary on smokeables. A $1,000-$2,000 smartphone purchase is nothing.

This year's Debian Project Leadership election has only ONE candidate and it's a Pajeeta (Sruthi Chandran):
>She is inactive on the mailing lists, and her Salsa profile is private so we can't even see what her coding contributions are.
>She's run for DPL 4 times before; lost each time
>Her entire platform is just about diversity and bitching about cis males
>She intends to formally incorporate Debian in the US, which would force Debian to introduce age verification
Her only claim to fame is organizing DebConf23, an event where a Debian developer literally fucking DIED because basic health & safety measures were not followed.

A much more qualified candidate was hospitalized during the nomination window and couldn't apply in time, yet she has refused to reopen nominations.

Debian is FUCKED unless the Debian developers all vote NOTA (None of the above).

FUCKING KEK
>>
>>108523324
You laugh, but that's essentially how it works. CoC applies only to those organizations and individuals that chose to ratify it and live under its rules.

For example, you can be a debian developer and a football hooligan and beat people up every weekend, but as long as the people you beat up are not part of Debian, you're good.
>>
>>108523323
Most non-profit orgs would break ties with someone like that as a matter of course though. The optics are insanely bad.
>>
>>108523566
I'm about to hit send, this is my final draft of the email:

I understand this topic may be somewhat tangential to the election mailing list, however I reviewed the list of voters in this year's DPL election and discovered that Jeremy Bicha is a Debian developer who cast a ballot: https://vote.debian.org/~secretary/leader2026/voters.txt

If you search up his name on Google, the very first result is his profile on Florida's Sexual Offender and Predator System, as he molested multiple preteen girls throughout the 1990's and confessed to all this in court.
https://offender.fdle.state.fl.us/offender/sops/flyer.jsf?personId=85068
https://wng.org/articles/the-high-cost-of-negligence-1617309216

Raping children is most likely a violation of the Debian Code of Conduct, and is reprehensible enough to call into question his continued status as a Debian developer.

Additionally, there are two more important questions about Bicha's relationship with the Debian Project that have yet to be answered. Bicha was due to speak at DebConf25 last year, an event that children were permitted to attend. The livestream also experienced technical issues when his talk was about to start, leaving it unclear whether he spoke.

The two questions are:

I don't see a good affordable upgrade. I don't do much with my phone. Maybe play a couple of silly games. Do the normal bullshit. If there was a phone like this with a much better camera I would grab it probably. I'm getting tired of carrying my digital camera around. Unfortunately it seems the only phone with a camera worth a shit I've seen is like $1500. Fuck off with that.
I'm also not getting a bigger phone. This size is perfect. I don't need a fucking hand tablet. I don't watch enough videos to justify this.

I have the same setup and it's my main work laptop. Honesty, Niri is the only WM I'd want to do dev and qa work on as it allows you to have tons of Windows open in a workspace with very easy re positioning. Normal stacking WM are painful to use unless you have multiple monitors and don't mind straining your neck turning your head constantly. Normal TWM are good, but you'll either have to move stuff around constantly or switch workspaces. With Niri I can keep 10+ work related windows open in Workspace 1 and be able to switch to other workspaces for personal task. Mac users can also experience it with PaperWM, so if my work made me use a Mac I'd use that.

anyone else paranoid about the lifespan of their devices? everything breaks eventually but i think we're all worried tech will just continue to get more unaffordable (+ unreliable) over time, so we should all be hoarding the older long-lasting tech while they're cheap to maximize the lifetime of our devices.
thinking of building my first am5... but it seems wiser to spend that money on pcs like picrel.

No it doesn't.
I have ThinkPad P50, and it struggles with anything "Modern" web that uses JS for everything (FB/IG,etc) and it's even worse since most of the new websites uses AV1 which can't be decoded with the GPU.

then

- ~2006:

- Still regularly listening to music on Yamaha MCR-E810,
including its CD player, which delivers considerably better
sound quality than a regular PC for playback. I don't have

Not really outside of a few blogs and people asking why its a ghost town. its a shame it lost momentum. I made a new version with claude and there's a few places now where you can get auth keys if you want to setup a zite, but its basically over, and too conplicated for zoomies. Nothing is updated in the core outside what ive done myself since early 2021 I think
I was scared as fuck for months after getting a Ms email saying it was all going to NMEC or whatever that org is, but nothing happened.
Just have to hope not getting pinged again is enough and they have actual important shit to do, might just be in a lucky country
