I'm not a computer expert, but can't you just have a smart home made of smart devices that connect to a local network server that's within your own home and does not connect to the Internet and cannot be accessed / controlled from outside your home network? For the love of God don't get memed into reading C&R C book or any books at all at the start, just pick a language (Odin is probably a good start) and try to get things done in steps (e.g. create a window, then draw a triangle, so on so forth) by looking up how each one is done (this is even easier nowadays since AI will give you the answer in 10 seconds whereas you used to have to google for it which was at least 10 times slower).If not, pick up Unity (easier) or Unreal (harder, but C++ will teach you somewhat real programming) and basically do the same: set a small goal, achieve it looking up the steps as they come, rinse repeat.
