Hello everyone, I have an old desktop PC sitting right there doing nothing. I'm trying to give it a reason to exist and evaluating the idea to install Windows 7 on it.So, can you use Windows 7 in these days? How much do you have to debloat it and uninstall things? And, more important, there's a way to not have it becoming a SECURITY NIGHTMARE?
You have to wonder why mods of this site are deleting posts that are not violating the rules of the website, almost like they're angered by these things the posts are pointing out.
>>107664074netsh advfirewall resetyoull still get updoots and "network test" connections THOUGH
>>107647565works on my machine constantly connected to internet tho
>>107647565Windows 7 was the closest to perfection microsoft ever came. But it is starting to become less usable nowadays with more and more software dropping support. You cant even install Steam on it anymore to play older games without workarounds. If you care about security, enable a strict firewall, install a good anti-malware, and don't install random programs or download and open random files. Just using a modern web browser e.g. firefox or chrome-based ones is pretty safe as it in most cases would have to be a pretty big vulnerability in the web browser code for it to be unsafe to just browse the internet. If you want a usable computer that will run great with older hardware. Install a stable Linux distro and skin it to look like Windows 7. Some skins look near identical to Windows 7. Linux also gives you access to all the latest software, including Windows software with wine if you have to.
>>107647565modify win 10 install or find something already debloated if you lack the brains to do it yourself.

Is software engineering dead?>The consensus is a resounding yes, the job has completely changed, mostly for the better. Devs are shifting from being code writers to being AI managers or "agent managers.">The most common workflow involves running multiple Claude sessions simultaneously, like a team of junior devs. You spend the start of your day crafting high-level prompts for your tasks, and then the rest of the day is spent reviewing, testing, and integrating the AI-generated code. This confirms OP's feeling of being "differently busy." While actual keyboard time for coding is way down, time spent on planning, prompt engineering, and especially code reviews is way up.>The payoff is huge. Many report finishing a day's or even a week's worth of tasks by noon, freeing up time for higher-level strategic thinking, planning the next day's work, or just enjoying more free time. However, you still have to be the senior engineer in the room; the AI can be confidently wrong, use outdated libraries, or get lazy, so manual oversight is critical.>Pro-tips from the thread: * Go hands-free: Many are ditching typing for voice-to-text tools like Whispr Flow or Superwhisper to dictate prompts, citing typing as the new bottleneck. * Stop the sycophant: To get Claude to challenge your ideas, give it a strong persona in the system prompt, like "You are an elite Staff Software Engineer who pushes back on bad ideas." * Work in parallel: Use git worktrees to manage multiple AI-driven tasks on the same repo at once.https://old.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1pun9u5/devs_using_ai_coding_tools_daily_what_does_your/
>>107663326That's absolutely horrifying.Anons, is this true?
>>107663133The limiting step hasnt changed for in production code bases, and that is attaining full comprehension of the system. Nuance is only attained at fully appreciation of a system. Its known from pedagogy that creating a line of code comes with full understanding, but rote memorization is quickly forgotten and underappreciated. Thus these workflows overtime leave the whole engineering team without nuance. Leading to things like not being able to change the taskbar location as its deeply behind ai generated code that passed the ticket but no one understands, is verbose, and machine readibility optimized not human. If its a web slop page these flows are goodIf your handling users money or sensitive data this workflow is a good way to poison pill a corporation slowlycand effectively

i just got the Fiio FT1 pro headphones, i have a sound card on my desktop, and i have a couple of questions do i need anything else to get the most out of these? like a DAC/amp or something?also if i use a cable extension with them that wont degrade the sound quality will it? i just need like an extra foot/30cm of length. i'm asking this because i'm not an audiophile and my ears arent trained to notice the difference sounds like that

>>107660957Working for the system is not intrinsically evil. In my particular case I work in a blue team and I am proud of protecting people. You need a redemption arc. It's hard work, but some people have pulled it off in the past without the inconvenient optional step of dying.Best success to you.
