Junior roles down 23%.
Senior roles up 14%.

Harvard tracked 285,000 firms. The math is brutal:

Before AI: 1 senior + 3 juniors = 4 person team
After AI: 1 senior + Claude = same output

We're creating a generation of experts with no apprentices. Masters with no students. Mentors with no one to mentor.

Who trains the next generation when AI does all the junior work?

But here's what made my stomach drop:

It's not layoffs.

>NOW is always the time to start something you have a legitimate interest in. If you're only doing it for the money, the time to start is never.
what's with the black and white thinking?
it's not necessarily "only for money" or "pure legitimate interest". Childhood should be about discovering the spectrum of interest/viability combinations you have.

Making enough money is important, but not the most important thing. it's just also not the least important factor either.

I'm in healthcare and they can't hire fast enough. They want to replace us with immigrants but that's not possible unless the immigrants are able to prove their nation's educational standards match our, their residency training matches our, and pass our board exams.
Most 3rd worlder's have to go through dental school all over again and then do residency too.

The bottleneck is residency positions that's why they can't replace anyone. The medical board keeps residency positions low to prevent people from becoming licensed doctors to keep pay high.

Chinese models are just benchmark machines. They're almost unusable in real life. They clearly haven't figured out how to make context work because they start fucking up after like 30-50k context tokens. Gemini 2.5 Pro is the best in that regard. I've given it huge chunks of code worth around 400k tokens and it was able to figure shit out. For very long context, like totally custom code bases, Gemini 2.5 Pro is the best. The most helpful in general is probably GPT 5 (thinking). The others are basically just garbage. Grok 4 is kind of OK in some cases but considering GPT 5 is better in every way, you might as well just use that.

Technology is rapidly regressing.
Windows 10 took away the analog clock.
Windows 11 took away the second. There is no built in way in Windows 11 to see the second. It's not in the start menu. It's not in the clock app. It's not in the notification area. It's not in the calender that opens form the notification are when you click on the clock. You have to install a 3rd party app or open a webpage to see the second.

Jesus Christ today I had to explain to a 12 year old how the right mouse button worked. Then I had to go and explain to another kid that wikipedia isn't a chatbot and that you actually have to read through the article to find the information you want. I purchased this recently for $2000. Was it a good decision? It was on sale, the best specs I could find for the price and form factor. It has a fit and finish approaching a modern MacBook (although a slightly thicker design, but not much) and it can run all muh games at ultra settings at 120 fps or above. More importantly, I think it'll be good for tinkering with LLMs and for productivity. I may dual boot Linux on it.

Battery life is okay at around 6 real world hours on battery with minimal tweaking (using the integrated graphics only), and in performance mode it really does run quite well.

I have a week to return it, though. Thoughts? Can I do better for the same price or less without sacrificing anything big? My other laptops include an old MBP and a ThinkPad x220.

specs:
3k 120hz OLED display with G-Sync (looks great in static images, does not particularly impress me in motion)
AMD 9 HX 370
5070 Ti (laptop), I think it's slightly underpowered to fit in such a small chassis, but I don't really know any better and it's still the most powerful GPU I've ever used, I think.
good speakers, decent keyboard, overall just a nice build.

Honestly I'd be okay if everything BUT their GPU division goes under. Sure the GPU's still can't compete with AMD and Nvidia yet in things like gaming BUT they're a great deal for video encoding on a budget and who knows what future fruits ARC will bear.
That's the best outcome. To bad Softbank and US tax dollars are gonna keep the worst aspects of that company a float much like when Bush and Obama bailed out GMC and Chevy numerous times and now people only drive those sheit cars because they're poor and the moment they have enough in their piggy bank or get a raise they almost always end up buying something from Japan that isn't an unreliable teethe rattling piece of shit.

I guess we just aren't allowed to have nice things in Clownworld.

>Sure the GPU's still can't compete with AMD and Nvidia yet in things like gaming BUT they're a great deal for video encoding on a budget and who knows what future fruits ARC will bear.
This is a meme, they're pretty good at budget gaming and for things that are GAAS w/ MMO like titles.
The AAA vulkanDX11,12slopfests that people benchmark with and don't really play they do alright in, not bad, not great but on linux the cards are good. For low tier gaming, even if you've got a 4k display and deal with the VRAM overhead on linux, the cards at least work with gamescope which nvidia cards don't, so you're good to game at 1080p etc.
AI, they're good bang for the buck, good community support and their ecosystem isn't the mess that ROCm & HIP are/were. ROCm outside linux is a disaster for RDNA4. ROCm in linux for RDNA4 is a disaster.

Intel should continue to exist. They're almost in that sweet spot. Timing and that company are what fuck them over.
The B50 existing in may before the 9060 XT came out woulda been good.
The B60 needs to be here now. 16 & 24GB GPUs for inference at an affordable price that shits down nvidias neck, good 2nd cards for video encoding and light 3D work.

The problem now with the B50 is it's only just filtering out, at a time where people really want the B60's 24GB VRAM and initial pricing? The same price as the 9060 XT with slower memory bandwidth pcie5x8 versus 5x16. 70W is killing it, it's a card for people like me who want to throw into their 2nd computer but at the price of the 9060 XT. If compute and VRAM are the end game you'd just wait a few months.
It's in such a weird spot compared to the B60 & B580. The B580 had a good launch window but VRAM deficit it works where it worked, the B60 promises 24GB of VRAM per card, the B50 is this weird inbetweener, filling the low TDP niche with decent VRAM, I'd use 2 of them for inference if they were $100 cheaper, otherwise wait for B60.
